Internet (WAN) connection statistics This is displayed when initially logged on to the router. It shows the WAN connection statistics including allocated IPv4 address, default gateway & primary DNS server etc. It can be identified by no link on the IPv4 text (highlighted with a red box below). Clicking on the DSL link below will display the DSL statistics. DSL connection statistics This is the connection statistics of the DSL link to the fibre cabinet, or the exchange if ADSL. It can be identified by the no link on the DSL text below (highlighted by a red box). This displays the SNR Margin Line attenuation etc. Clicking on the DSL link below will display the Internet statistics. Page 2 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Change router password Go to:- Management > System Settings > Admin Put in the new password & click Save :- Page 3 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Internet Configuration Go to:- Settings > Internet (WAN) Default ADSL configuration:- To configure any options, in the WAN Connection Type screen, click on Advanced settings. Always On This is only applicable to ADSL, not fibre. To enable this go down the page to Connect mode select & set this to Always On :- Page 4 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

DNS Servers By default the router will use the allocated DNS servers of TalkTalk, these are much faster than they used to be. Changing to other DNS servers such as Google DNS, or opendns is not permitted within firmware V1.08t. However, these can still be set via the OCEs & the Enhanced Remote Management. Page 5 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Wireless Settings To access these go to:- Settings > Wireless (Wi-Fi) Network Names (SSID) In the initial screen the default setting uses the same network name (SSID) for each band. Like the HG633/635 the recommendation is to change these to names that reflect each band. That way it is much easier to know which band you are connected to. An example of this is shown below where:- MySSID24-2.4GHz band MySSID5-5GHz band Once done click the Save button. Page 6 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Security settings Just below the network name settings in the Share Security section, this is where the Wi-Fi password (called the PSK Network key below) that is common to both bands is stored. I would always recommend setting the Security to WPA2 as this forces the router to only accept connection from devices using the most secure connection type currently available, also set the WPA Type to PSK Value :- Once done click the Save button. Advanced Settings Under the Share Security advanced settings, ensure that the Cypher Type is set to AES :- Page 7 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Advanced 2.4G Wireless Settings Against each band is an Advanced Settings link, some of the important 2.4GHz band settings are dealt with below. Channel setting By default the channel is set to Auto, before you can change the channel you must first disable this by sliding the Auto Channel switch to Disabled :- To set to channel 6 for example:- Page 8 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Channel bandwidth The Channel Width is always best set to 20MHz only in the 2.4GHz band:- WPS This can be enabled or disabled as required, note WPS requires the router and the connecting device to use the WPA2 security protocol. This can be found in:- Settings > Wireless > 2.4GHz > Advanced settings > Wi-Fi Protected Setup and Settings > Wireless > 5GHz > Advanced settings > Wi-Fi Protected Setup Page 9 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Advanced 5G Wireless Settings Click on the Advanced settings link against the 5GHz section of the main Wireless Settings page. Channel Setting This is basically the same as setting a 2.4GHz channel, only the channel numbers are different. Channel bandwidth The Channel Width in the 5GHz band can be used to create 80MHz channels on this router. Guard Interval Currently (firmware V1.08t) changing between short & long guard interval setting is not permitted. WPS This is also in the advanced settings of the 5GHz band, but is exactly the same to configure as with the 2.4GHz WPS. Page 10 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Network (LAN) Settings Go to:- Settings > Network (LAN) Advanced Settings Clicking on the above link will allow the router's IP address to be changed as well as the upnp settings. DHCP settings The main DHCP config of IP address range can be configured:- DHCP Table & DHCP Reserved IP addresses This shows the devices that have been connected or are connected to the router. Clicking on the edit link against each one allows the DHCP reserved IP address status to be changed, or a new one setup via the Add Rule button. Page 11 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

USB drive & SAMBA This is similar to the DSL-3780. From the Home screen the basic statistics for this can be seen by clicking on USB :- Click on the Go to settings link in the previous screenshot, then change the Work Group setting to the same as your PC, typically:- WORKGROUP Then to access from a Windows 10 PC, map the drive as shown, noticing that the UNC name ends in Usb & not Share :- \\192.168.1.1\Usb Put a tick in the Reconnect at sign-in & the Connect using different credentials checkboxes:- Page 12 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Then when you see this screen, enter your router's admin credentials. Note: if you have changed your router admin password, the password required here is not that one, but the original one documented on the label on the rear of the router. Page 13 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Features The features configuration area covers most things such as:- IP/MAC address filtering Port Forwarding DMZ DDNS Page 14 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

IP/MAC address filtering This is not MAC address filtering in respect of blocking all but certain devices from accessing the wireless network, but blocks IP or MAC addresses from accessing the internet. The traditional MAC address filtering is classed as not secure these days as MAC addresses can be spoofed. A strong wireless password is a much better security measure. Features > IP/MAC Address Filtering They must be set to Disabled IP Filters or Disabled MAC Filters to disable all filtering:- An example of MAC address filtering is shown below (do not forget to add the MAC addresses of wired as well as wireless devices):- There are three options for each:- 1. Disabled 2. Only allow computers with (IP or MAC) address listed below to access the network 3. Only deny computers with (IP or MAC) address listed below to access the network There is no way to do this based on time of day (parental restrictions) in firmware V1.08t. Page 15 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Port forwarding This is very simple to add to this router, that any problems are more likely to be on the rest of your port forwarding scenario. You will need to create a static IP address for the device. This can either be done on the device itself & excluded from the DHCP ip address range or via the DHCP reservations in the router. Go to:- Features > Port Forwarding Leave the interface below to PVC1. Page 16 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

DMZ (Exposed Hosts) Any devices that are added to the De-Militarised Zone are more vulnerable to security issues than other devices on your LAN/WLAN that are not in the DMZ, because devices in the DMZ are not protected by the router's firewall. To add a device to the DMZ, go to:- Features > Port Forwarding > DMZ (Exposed Hosts) Then click Add rule in the resulting screen & complete this page:- Page 17 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

DDNS Like the DSL-3780, the DSL-3782 supports No-IP & is very easy to setup. It does not support DuckDNS though. First create the domain (e.g. called MyDomain ) via the No-IP website's Dashboard. At this stage do not worry about the warning:- This should clear after an hour or so. Using another tab of the same browser, log on to the router & check that the IP / Target address shown on the No-IP dashboard matches your actual WAN IP address on the router. This can be seen on the home screen of the 3782, it is simply called the IP Address on the router:- Now on the router go to:- Features > Dynamic DNS Then enable the Dynamic DDNS Settings option & configure it as shown below. In this case the example domain of MyDomain was used & it is entered in the Hostname field as the full domain:- MyDomain.ddns.net Page 18 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Save this & reboot the router & wait about an hour or so for the automatic DDNS updates to start reaching the No-IP website. This should recover quite quickly if you test it as per my DDNS document, although you may have to log out of the No-IP website & log back in again for the IP address to update in their dashboard. Page 19 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Management Options This menu contains amongst other options:- Time settings System log Time Settings Go to:- Management > Time Set this as required:- Note: in firmware V1.08, the router never seems to check the time via the NTP server again after initial configuration & as a result the time can be very inaccurate. Page 20 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

System Log This contains the actual system log, which can be found at Management > LogInfo Configuring system log This can be done via the System Log link at the top right of the previous screen. It should all be self explanatory:- Page 21 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018

Modem Mode Not tried this, but it apparently passes the WAN IP address to another router. Hidden menu for DNS server config:- http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/new_gui/dns.asp Page 22 of 23 Date : 09/04/2018
