Position Description Title Senior Director of IT Infrastructure and Development Location Columbia, Maryland Responsible To IT Vice President The Senior Director of IT Infrastructure and Development will establish current and long-range direction of technology aimed at keeping the 13-hospital organization on the forefront of change, including the analysis of purchased systems, hardware and software, or the internal design and development of hardware and software systems. The Senior Director will oversee 150 staff members and contractors. About 70 of these are in the End User and Network Group. Overall the IT Department has about 450 FTEs and another hundred consultants. The U of MD Medical Center system has 3,500 servers. Responsibilities include: 1. Implement the enterprise architecture and the development and maintenance of the organization's computing/it environment. 2. Dispenses technical advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to carry out major plans and procedures. 3. Coordinates the design, development, marketing, and maintenance of technology projects or product lines, and analyzes new technologies. 4. Responsible for contracts and licensing. 5. May oversee any or all of the following functions: o Operating Systems Programming - creates/supports/uses operating system software and operating system management and utility software; develops/implements operating system enhancements. o Technical Support - advises developers and others on the capabilities and constraints of the production computing environment; Systems integration - analyzes potential impacts of software functionality and/or changes across multiple systems/platforms/applications. o Data/Voice Networks architects/designs/maintains voice and data networks in support of enterprise architecture designs.
o Packaged Product Evaluation - consults on the implementation and support requirements of purchased/packaged software to applications developers and business units. Leadership Profile: Required: Bachelor s degree or equivalent combination of education certifications and work experience - however, a degree is strongly preferred Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in information systems development and implementation Eight or more years of management experience with demonstrated leadership ability overseeing technical teams High level of proficiency and demonstrated effectiveness in problem solving and implementing new processes related to increased departmental and organizational operating efficiency Work experience within a large environment, preferably academic A strong understanding of budgets, both capital and operating Desired: Master s degree The perfect candidate will also have a strong systems background An ability to remove roadblocks to project movement An understanding of infrastructure licensing
