1. Introduction The Global Image Management System (GIMS) provides centralized control of images in epadvision signature pads used in various locations throughout an enterprise; the epad-vision devices are connected to PCs with access to an ftp server. GIMS handles two types of images: background signing images and screensaver images in the format that epad-vision devices use. GIMS has two components, GIMS-server and GIMS-client. The IT administrator builds the new image files, sets up the client configuration, and posts them in the ftp server through GIMS-server software. The GIMS-client software periodically checks the ftp site and downloads new images and installs them on the local epad-vision automatically or manually. The GIMS-client software logs major event in a Windows Event Log system about downloaded images, implemented images, etc. 2. Initial Setup Requirements A. FTP server. The Global Image Management System (GIMS) includes server and client software components. Both components will upload/download image files to/from the FTP server. Please setup an FTP server with administrator account for GIMS-server component to log on; the GIMS-client component will use an anonymous account to logon to the FTP server. The FTP server can run in Windows Server 2003, 2008, and 2012 environments. B. Install GIMS-server software component on a Windows system, Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 desktop on which an epad-vision driver has been installed using the latest version of the Universal Installer available on www.epadsupport.com. This component mainly will be used by the administrator to create a new background image or screen saver images, then these images can be uploaded to the server. C. Install GIMS-client software component on every Windows system with an epad-vision device connected; Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 desktop are supported. The Client component will check the FTP server for new background image or screen saver images periodically or by demand. If a new image(s) is found, the client software will download and implement the image(s) onto the epad-vision device automatically. Global Image Management System www.epadlink.com 3
