The direct connection between DT Measure Foundry and MATLAB is found in the Melting Pot panel above and allows you to perform any MATLAB command or operation within your test and measurement application. Overview DT Measure Foundry TM is a powerful software package designed for test and measurement, control, and analysis applications. Its patent-pending design allows you to drag control and display objects onto your screen and configure them within their property pages. No wiring of one object to another, and no compiling is required. For example, simply configure an Oscilloscope panel to display a number of input channels from a data source, then run your application. Access Powerful Mathematical Functions The Melting Pot panel is a multifunction panel that allows you to create a formula of your own that can be used to process input signals, generate output signals, control program flow, or control your process live. The Melting Pot also includes complete access to and from The Mathworks MAT- LAB, including numerical computation, scientific graphics, and signal processing functionality. You can create MATLAB commands in the Melting Pot panel and send them to MATLAB from within DT Measure Foundry, allowing full capability of all MATLAB functions (see Figure 1). Figure 2. DT Measure Foundry allows you to create instrument-like interface applications. This oscilloscope example program, included with the package, is just one of the many types of applications you can create.
Figure 3. Send data directly from DT Measure Foundry to Excel in real time with the Excel Live Link panel. Data is displayed live in Excel directly from the Analog Input panel. Figure 4. DT Measure Foundry includes a large library of functional panels that perform powerful operations, such as from data acquisition, display, control, and application flow. Perform Post-Analysis Processing If you are a Microsoft Excel user, you can send data directly to Excel in real time with one panel called Excel Live Link. This allows you to log, graph, and save data live in your standard Excel application quickly and easily (see Figure 3). Centralize and Control All Functions The Foundry window is a new approach that centralizes all objects and functions in one location. This allows you to easily access all properties and capabilities of DT Measure Foundry (see Figures 4 and 5). The Inspector tool, located in the Foundry, allows automatic application mapping. With this easy-to-use tool, you can display, print, and save the relationships, contingencies, and dependencies among objects. This function is great for mapping your program for future maintenance, user documentation, and corporate or regulatory requirements. Measure Temperature The Thermocouple Linearization panel allows you to apply thermocouple linearization algorithms to any channel and display the result in any display panel. This allows you to connect thermocouple devices directly to Data Translation hardware and display, log, export or print your temperature quickly and easily (see Figure 6). Access OPC Hardware on the Network The OPC tools let you access measurements from any OPC hardware on the network, such as programmable logic controllers and distributed control systems, and process those measurements in your DT Measure Foundry application. OPC (OLE for Process Control) is a standard in the manufacturing industry that allows access to OPC servers anywhere on the network. Figure 5. PCI Series USB Series Figure 7. Choose any PCI or USB data acquisition hardware to complete your measurement solution. DT Measure Foundry provides high-level access to and full control of all data acquisition functions, including A/D, D/A, digital I/O, and counter/ timer subsystems. Figure 8. Create powerful measurement solutions in a fraction of the time it would take with text-based programming. This example displays analog input data with a digital display. Simply place objects on the worksheet and run. Under the hood. Untangle your code! No wiring required! All elements of DT Measure Foundry are accessed and selected in property pages. Double-clicking on any object reveals its property page. DT Measure Foundry has three core elements. Data channels are the normal data transportation mechanisms used to transfer data from your hardware to your panel. To set up the hardware, use a data source panel, such as the Analog Input panel. Control sources are a set of properties and actions that you can control with the controlling panels, such as the Control Button panel. Events allow you to react to a change in your project. To handle events, use the Event Trap panel (see Figures 7 and 8). Create Unique User Interface The Multi-Functional Group Box panel allows you to combine a group of panels together in one panel. Additionally, you can place these panels on top of any image allowing you to graphically simulate your processes. This allows you to create a graphical user interface that is completely unique to your application (see Figure 9). Figure 9. The Multi-Functional Group Box allows you to place any image you want as the background and place any other object over it. For example, create a virtual instrument, such as the Spectrum Analyzer pictured above, by using a picture in the background. Place any object into the Group Box and it remains accessible to any other object in or out of the Group Box. Figure 10. DT Measure Foundry s custom real-time displays include built-in pan/zoom/measure functions as well as data reduction. Any display can be sized to whatever size is needed, and the colors and font size can be set easily.

You can easily zoom in on and pan a specific area of your display and view the live data in a particular area of interest. The pan/zoom function is featured in all DT Measure Foundry graphical display panels. Display Live Data Many display panels allow you to see live data as it is being acquired. Display time or frequency domain data instantly with Oscilloscope, X/Y Oscilloscope and Spectrum Analyzer panels. Included in these panels are standard functions, such as pan/zoom/measure, triggering, and windowing functions that can be accessed in the panel property page (see Figures 10 and 11). Correlate Machine Vision and Data Acquisition Many applications require you to correlate machine vision and data acquisition data. With DT Vision Foundry, you can easily create one user interface to connect, display, interpret and analyze both types of data (see Figure 12). Technical Support As you develop your application, technical support is available when you need it. Extensive information is available 24 hours a day on our web site at www.datatranslation.com, including drivers, example code, a searchable KnowledgeBase, and much more. Support is also available from your point of purchase. Telephone support is free for the first 90 days; you can also request complimentary support via e-mail or fax at any time. Debug Tool To check performance of a running program, DT Measure Foundry comes with a Debug Tool to isolate any event-driven errors. You can start and stop the Debug Tool at any time. The Filter feature allows you to isolate certain functions for example, show all the data sources and their operations. You can save the results of your debug analysis to file (see Figure 13). Special Features Ideal for Manufacturing Other new features, ideal for the manufacturing environment, are the Hot Key function and the ability to use DT Measure Foundry as the PC desktop. A DT Measure Foundry application can replace the Windows desktop, turning a standard PC into an instrument. The PC can then only be used to run DT Measure Foundry. Nothing else on it can be used or changed, thereby providing more system security and easy deployment on the assembly line. The Hot Key feature lets you assign standard keyboard keys to toggle between panels or to activate functions in the DT Measure Foundry application with a single keystroke. This feature is ideal for industrial applications in dirty, hazardous environments where an end-user would rather use a keystroke than a mouse.
