2 Introduction EZChrom SI is a single-instrument version of the Agilent EZChrom Elite Data System. It has essentially the same functionality as EZChrom Elite (see Limitations below) for control and data acquisition, analysis, and processing, but is limited to a single instrument. Limitations and differences Please note the following limitations and differences between EZChrom SI and the EZChrom Elite Data System. Enterprise-oriented functions such as user/project administration, electronic signature, audit trails, and email notification, are not available in this version. Advanced Reporting functions and the ability to save custom report templates are not available. Sequence summary reports are created using the standard Custom Report Editor rather than Advanced Reports. With the exception of this EZChrom SI User s Guide, all documentation you receive will be for the full EZChrom Elite Data System. You should refer to the appropriate sections of that documentation for descriptions of instrument control and software use. Before you begin using EZChrom SI, you must install the software and configure the hardware (acquisition hardware and instruments) you will be using, as described in the following sections. 3 Installation The following steps should be followed when installing and configuring your EZChrom SI system. EZChrom SI Guide 5

a. Install all hardware (A/D board, terminal panel, and instrument connections). Refer to the Hardware Installation section located in the main EZChrom Elite Installation Guide for details. b. If running Windows 2000, log into the computer as a local administrator so you have full rights to install application software. c. Install EZChrom SI software following the instructions presented. See EZChrom Elite documentation supplied for complete details. d. Install the software license key. Refer to the Software License Installation section located in the EZChrom Elite Installation Guide. e. Configure A/D hardware and instrument (detectors, external events). Refer to the Configuration chapter of the System Admin Guide, or for configuration of digital control for specific instruments (such as Agilent 1100 LC), see the control option documentation for that instrument. Configuring EZChrom SI Once you have installed the hardware and software, you need to configure the system before you can use it. To run the configuration program, run the program from the Windows Start button as follows: From the Start menu, select All Programs. Point to the Chromatography menu, and then select EZChrom SI Config, The following dialog box will appear. 6 EZChrom SI Guide
