Failover during controller software upgrade window. Corrected an issue regarding HP Continuous Access EVA site fail over between arrays running controller software VCS 3.020 and 3.028 during a one week upgrade window. Controller software XCS 5.030 Controller software 5.030 resolves the following issues: Snapshot does not fail over. Corrected rare situation in which a DR group member that has a snapshot does not fail over with the rest of the group. Host loses visibility to DR group members. Corrected rare situation in which the host loses visibility to presented DR group members after a power cycle of both array controllers. Tunnel event. Added an event to report when a tunnel is established. Stability in heavily loaded arrays. HP Continuous Access EVA stability is improved for heavily loaded arrays. Replication Solutions Manager 1.2 Replication Solutions Manager 1.2 resolves the following: Setup cascaded replication job template. When the Setup Cascaded Replication template in prior versions is used without modification, invalid configurations involving failsafe and I/O modes can result when the job is run. Additional comment lines provide guidance to avoid creating invalid configurations. Known issues EVA4000/6000/8000 support Testing of FC-IP support with HP Continuous Access EVA is ongoing. For the latest information, see the HP StorageWorks Continuous Access and Data Replication Manager SAN Extensions reference guide. See Product documentation, page 9 for the HP Storage web site. Table 1 EVA4000/6000/8000 support Item Remarks Direct connect Not supported in HP Continuous Access EVA environments. DR groups and copy sets Virtual disks per DR group EVA8000 host ports Switches per fabric SAN extensions Host HBAs per array Failover on host clusters 128 DR groups and 128 copy sets per array (maximum). When using HP Replication Solutions Manager, the maximum is 32 DR groups and 32 copy sets per array. See the HP Storage web site for the latest information regarding a patch to HP Command View EVA that increases the maximum when using the replication manager. 32 virtual disks per DR group (maximum, total not to exceed 16 TB) 3 host ports on any 8- or 16-port B-Series switch (maximum). No limit for C-Series or M-Series switches. See Fabric infrastructure rules (Volume 2) in the HP StorageWorks SAN design guide. For topics such as switch types, wavelength Division Multiplexing(WDM) and Fibre Channel over Synchronous Optical Network (FC-SONET), see the HP StorageWorks Continuous Access and Data Replication Manager SAN Extensions reference guide. The maximum depends on an array s platform/operating system rules. See Host and storage systems rules (Volume 3) in the HP StorageWorks SAN design guide. Not supported on Cluster Extensions EVA and MetroCluster EVA. 4

Host OS support in XCS 5.030 Testing of host operating systems with XCS 5.030 and HP Continuous Access EVA is ongoing. Check the HP Storage web site for updates of these release notes. For specific versionsof the host OSs listed below, see the HP StorageWorks EVA software compatibility reference. Table 2 Host OS support Support category Support pending Supported Operating system IBM AIX, Novell NetWare, Sun Solaris HP-UX, HP OpenVMS, HP Tru64 UNIX, Linux, Microsoft Windows Replication tasks are not allowed after a management server change After the management server is changed, replication is not allowed. Neither the replication manager nor HP Command View EVA on the new management server can perform replication with snapclones, snapshots or DR groups. Resolution: After a management server change, information regarding HP Business Copy EVA replication licenses (snapclones and snapshots) and HP Continuous Access EVA replication licenses (DR groups) in HP Command View EVA can become unavailable. To resolve this issue: 1. On the previously active management server, start HP Command View EVA. 2. Click Agent Options > Licensing Options > View previously entered license keys. 3. Select all the license keys and copy them into Windows Notepad. 4. On the currently active management server, start HP Command View EVA. 5. Click Agent Options > Licensing Options > Enter new license key. 6. Paste each license key (one at a time) into the Add a License page. 7. Click Add license. 8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all license keys. Remote replication features in mixed EVA environments The following rules apply for remote replication between two arrays that are in different EVA families: If a feature is supported differently in the two arrays, then the more restrictive value applies to the DR group pair. For example, with remote replication between an EVA3000 array (VCS 3.x) and an EVA4000 array (XCS 5.x), each DR group can contain only up to 8 virtual disks (even though the EVA4000 supports up to 32). If a feature is not available in both arrays, then the feature cannot be used in a DR group pair. For example, with remote replication between an EVA3000 array (VCS 3.x) and an EVA4000 array (XCS 5.x), the location of the write history log cannot be set (even though the EVA4000 supports it). Automatic controller transfer to optimal performance path (XCS 5.x) With controller software XCS 5.020, controller ownership of virtual disks is automatically transferred when a high percentage of read I/Os is processed by the non-owning controller. Although this transfer maximizes use of the optimal performance path, it can negatively impact array operation in HP Continuous Access EVA environments. HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA 2.1 release notes update 5

Resolution: HP recommends that you use controller software XCS 5.030 in HP Continuous Access EVA environments. With XCS 5.030, automatic controller transfer is disabled by default. If you want to use the automatic controller transfer feature in XCS 5.030, contact your HP-authorized servicerepresentativeforassistance. Note that even with automatic controller transfer disabled, you can still accomplish load balancing by using explicit path transition commands in the host operating system. Invalid DR Group attention icons in HP Command View EVA In the navigation tree of HP Command View EVA, all DR Groups below the first DR group with a valid attention state can display invalid attention icons, regardless of their actual operational states. The issue occurs only in HP Command View EVA version 4.1 with EVA4000/6000/8000 arrays.. Resolution: To verify a DR group attention icon: 1. In the navigation tree, select a DR group with an attention icon. The DR Group properties pane opens. 2. On the General tab, check the Operational State field, or on the Connection tab check the Connection State field. If a field shows good or failed then the attention icon in the navigation tree is invalid. If the field shows attention, the icon in the navigation tree is valid. An invalid attention icon typically appears after: Suspending a source DR group A remote system has a hardware connection issue See the HP Storage web site for the latest information regarding a patch to HP Command View EVA that corrects this issue. Long distance gateway factor in upgrading to VCS 3.028 For information on long distance gateways, see the HP StorageWorks Continuous Access and Data Replication Manager SAN Extensions reference guide. Unpresented virtual disks in DR groups (VCS 3.025 and 3.028) Controller software versions VCS 3.025 and 3.028 do not support adding an unpresented virtual disk to a DR group or creating a DR group by specifying an unpresented virtual disk as the initial source member. (This feature is supported in controller software XCS 5.x) Deleting a DR group pair results in incorrect WWIDs for detached virtual disks HP Command View EVA only environments. After a DR group pair is deleted, HP Command View EVA displays incorrect world wide IDs (WWIDs) for the detached destination virtual disks. Although incorrect WWIDs are displayed, the detached destination disks can be presented to a server for manual mounting. HP Replication Solutions Manager environments. After a DR group pair is deleted (using either HP Command View EVA or using HP Replication Solutions Manager with the detach/discard option) a replication job hangs indefinitely or a CLUI command fails when attempting to mount the detached destination virtual disks. Resolution: The WWIDs of source and destination virtual disks in a DR group pair are identical. After a DR group pair is deleted, and the virtual disks become independent of each other, WWIDs cannot remain identical and are changed. 6

HP Command View EVA caches WWIDs of destination virtual disks. When a DR group pair is deleted, new WWIDs for the detached destination virtual disks are not stored in the cache. To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods. HP Command View EVA only environments 1. In the HP Command View EVA navigation pane, select EVA Storage Network. TheHSVStorage Properties window appears. 2. On the HSV Storage Properties window, click Discover. WWID information for all virtual disks is updated. HP Replication Solutions Manager environments 1. Perform the resolution steps shown for HP Command View EVA only environment. 2. In the HP Replication Solutions Manager navigation pane, select Virtual Disks. 3. In the Virtual Disks content pane, select the discarded virtual disks. 4. On the Actions menu for the selected virtual disks, select Low-Level Refresh. Click OK. This updates the replication manager with new WWIDs from HP Command View EVA. Any hung jobs involving the detached virtual disks can now continue. Other jobs and CLUI commands involving the detached virtual commands will run correctly. SetupCascadedReplicationtemplate (replication manager) When the Setup Cascaded Replication template in HP replication Solutions Manager prior to version 1.2 is used without modification, invalid configurations involving failsafe and I/O modes can result when the job is run. Resolution: HP recommends upgrading to HP Replication Solutions Manager 1.2. When using the template in prior versions, modify the job to comply with Continuous Access EVA configuration rules regarding use of failsafe mode and I/O mode. Windows Storport drivers are incompatible with failsafe mode (all controller software versions) Microsoft Windows Storport drivers are incompatible with remote replication failsafe mode. When DR group failsafe mode is enabled and an intersite link is lost, the Storport driver on Windows hosts will not correctly respond to the loss of access to member virtual disks (LUNs). As a result, the host crashes with a blue screen. Reboots do not correct the situation until after the virtual disks (LUNs) are restored to the host. Resolution: HP recommends using SCSI port drivers on Windows hosts. Alternatively, do not enable DR group failsafe mode if the virtual disk members are to be presented to Windows hosts that have Storport drivers. For the latest information regarding a Storport fix that is being developed, see the HP Storage web site. DR group log behavior documentation The DR group log description on page 28 of the HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA administrator guide incorrectly states that the DR group log stores write data from a host if the writes to the source DR group are faster than the transfer rate to the destination DR group. In fact, the DR group log is not used for this purpose. The DR group log stores write data from a host to a source DR group only if the transfer of data to the destination DR group is stopped (due to intersite link suspension or loss). However, if the writes to the source DR group are faster than the transfer rate, host I/O is automatically throttled to allow the array to maintain a valid copy of the data at the remote site. The incorrect statement also appears in the HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager 1.1 user guide and online help. HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA 2.1 release notes update 7

New hardware recovery procedure documentation A step is missing in the procedure Return operations to replaced new storage hardware on pages 46 49 of the HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA administrator guide. Resolution: Before step 2 (in the flowchart and text on page 47) add a step to resume remote replication. If remote replication is in a suspended state, the deletion of DR groups in step 2 will fail. Recovering from a disk group hardware failure documentation Steps are missing in the following procedures in the HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA administrator guide: Diskgrouphardwarefailureonthesourcearray(page101) Disk group hardware failure on the destination array (page 105) Resolution: In each procedure, replace step 12 with the following: 12a. Select the surviving storage array and perform a refresh. 12b. After the refresh is complete, recreate the DR groups and set up host presentation on the repaired array. 12c. In the replication manager (if present), perform a global refresh after you have recreated the DR groups using HP Command View EVA. 8
