TL-3300 Digital Conference Systems Chapter 5 System Connection and Basic Setting 5.1 System Connection GOSIN digital conference system has a simple structure and extensible hardware. The system is easy to install, and system maintenance does not need much skill. Common technicians can conduct this work after a short period of training. Conference units are connected in a hand-in-hand mode and they are finally connected to the central control unit with special 8-pin extension cables. This chapter mainly describes how to connect the conference system. 5.1.1 Principle of Connection In a digital conference system, conference units are powered by the central control unit; therefore, the number of conference units that the central control unit can process is subject to the power supply capability of the central control unit. The central control unit has a 4-channel output interface. For the 3200 series central control unit, each channel can process up to 15 conference units and a standalone central control unit can process up to 60 conference units. If an extension unit is added, this number can be increased to 120; if two extension units are added, this number can be increased to 200. Between the central control unit and extension unit, and between extension units, 8-pin cables are added to connect them in serial mode. If the distance between the central control unit and conference units, and between conference units exceeds 1.5m, use extension cables to connect them. Note that extension cables have resistance, using them will reduce the number of conference units which the central control unit can process. The relationship is shown in the following table: Distance between the central control unit and the first conference unit Number of conference units which the central control unit can process per channel 40m (in normal use condition) 15 60m 14 80m 13 100m 12 5.1.2 8P-T3 Cable The total length of this cable is 1.5+1.2m. The 1.5m section carries an 8-pin male connector for interconnecting with the female connector of an extension cable or the preceding 8P-T3 cable; the 1.2m section carries an 8-pin male connector as well for interconnecting with the conference unit, and an female connector for interconnecting with the next 8P-T3 cable. Generally, this cable is hidden in drawer of a table or in flower on the table. If actual distance exceeds this cable, use the extension cable 8PS-03\05\10\15\20\40 developed by GONSIN or STP cable (8 φ0.2 double shielded, welding is needed) for extension. During welding, make sure correct interconnection. Connector A Connector B Connector C 20

Each conference unit has a (1.5+1.2)m 8P-T3 or 13P-T3 cable. Connect the male connector of the 1.5m section to the central control unit (if the distance between the conference unit and central control unit exceeds 1.5m, add an extension cable between the central control unit and the T-shaped cable); connect the male connector of the 1.2m section to another conference unit; and connect the female connector to the 1.5m section connector of the next T- shaped cable. 5.1.3.1 Connection of Central Control unit with Extension Unit, Computer, Audio Device, and Camera 21

TL-3300 Digital Conference Systems 5.2 Wiring of Extension Cable 8PS-03/05/10/15/20/40 and 13PS-03/05/10/15/20 will be used for wiring. Roundtable conference: for an extension cable, its male connector is located at the control room for connecting to the central control unit and its female connector is located at the table for connecting to the first conference unit. The connection cable 8P-T3 is generally deployed in the drawer of the table and in flower on the table. Row-type table conference: generally, conference room of this type will be wired with multiple lines. The transition issue between the left rows and right rows or between front rows and rear rows can be solved by using 3m or 5m extension cables to connect adjacent tables. If ground sockets are needed, drill a Ø2.0cm hole under the table that is installed with the first conference unit. For a row-type table conference, holes should be drilled under each table at the last conference unit to address transition issue. If more than 25 conference units will be installed, it's advisable to divide them into multiple groups and use extension cables to connect from the control room to the first conference unit of each group. Note: Number of conference unit per group should be basically the same. Max. 25 conference units for one single channel; average 15 conference units per channel. 22

Chapter 7 FAQs 1. Q: After the central control unit is powered on, it makes a tick sound. Only the chairman unit is enabled and all delegate units are not enabled. Why? A: System communication is abnormal, so the central control unit cannot detect delegate units. 1Check the communication wires (orange or orange/white) for open circuit or short circuit. If no issue is found, 2Directly connect two delegate units to the central control unit to see whether they are normal. If they are normal, the issue may be caused by: ŸlShort circuit or open circuit that is caused during welding of an extension cable, joint looseness, or a poor wire; ŸShort circuit of an RS-485 cable of a delegate unit; ŸPoor connection of the adaptive resistor or improper resistance value. 3If they are abnormal, the RS-485 cable of the central control unit may be faulty. Please contact technicians. 2. Q: The power indicator of the central control unit is not lit on after it is powered on; the central control unit does not make a tick sound as well. Why? A: Check the power source of the central control unit or check the fuse corresponding to the power interface at the rear panel of the unit. 3. Q: Why cannot I control dome cameras? A: 1Check if the + and of the RS-485 cable is reversely connected and if the copper core of the binding post is inserted into the RS-484 interface of the central control unit and locked. 2Check the ID and protocol settings of the dome cameras. The central control unit supports PELCO-P9600 cameras. 4. Q: After I use software to renumber conference units and set preset position of camera tracking, camera tracking or discussion cannot be conducted in offline mode. Why? A: After using the software for setting, make sure to exit the software or click Offline, and then restart the central control unit. The unit is expected to make a tick sound after it is powered on. Two seconds later, it will make a tick sound again, indicating that self-check succeeds. 5. Q: Can the chairman unit be installed in any position? A: Yes. The chairman unit can be installed in any position to help control delegate units. 6. Q: Why there is no image for camera tracking? A: Check the connection wire or setting of the display device and check if the No. of each camera corresponds to a correct video input (e.g. No. 1 camera corresponds to VIDEO INPUT 1 and No. 2 camera corresponds to VIDEO INPUT 2). 7. Q: Some channels do not have sound. Why? A: Check the input of the audio source and the No. of channel you use. Only 6-channel devices that are equipped with five interpreter consoles have each channel opened and available. 8. Q: What are the production standards of an interpreter booth? A: An interpreter booth is designed for providing voice services in different occasions. Such a room must have excellent sound insulation and absorption function. Materials used must be free of smell, antistatic, fireretardant or fireproof, and will not cause harm to eye, skin, and respiratory system or absorb or accumulate dust(blanket is forbidden). Color of the room must match the intense working condition. All objects, including device surface, must be coated with a flat paint (covering the desk is not acceptable). If the room will be installed in a conference hall, ensure that sufficient space is available so that the room can be installed in a proper position. Users can consult our technical engineers. For details, refer to the General Features of Interpreter Booth and standards for Devices. The interpreter booth should meet the following requirements as well: ŸIt should be installed in right opposite of or at the lateral of the speaking person. ŸIt should allow the interpreter to clearly view any speaking person (interpreters require to clearly view facial expressions of any speaker) ŸIt should allow the interpreter to clearly view the conference site, which helps reduce sound. ŸIt should be spacious enough to provide activity space for two interpreters. It should have suitable fresh air, indoor temperature, and light. 25
