SMART Board A computer projects image onto the interactive whiteboard, the whiteboard is a monitor as well as an input device controlled by touching the screen. If the whiteboard doesn t interpret your touch correctly, then whiteboard may need to be Orientated. 1. Press the two buttons on the SMART Board 2. Press center of the target projected onto the whiteboard and release. Touch Use your finger as a mouse 1. Left click of mouse = tap finger once on whiteboard 2. Double click of mouse = tap finger twice + on white board 3. Right click of mouse = press button on whiteboard + touch white board 4. Enter text from keyboard = press keyboard button on whiteboard will display keyboard on whiteboard 2

Writing on interactive whiteboard-smartink Using a pen tool will display a boarder (Digital Ink Layer) around the desktop image. You can write on the whiteboard without affecting the applications that are being displayed from the computer. The whiteboard recognizes the last tool you picked up there is an optical sensor that detects when the pen is not in the tray and a light in each slot indicates which tool is active. 1. To write, pick up a pen tool and write/draw on whiteboard 2. To erase digital ink, pick up the eraser 3. To save your notes, from the top boarder click on the icon, replace all tools, touch whiteboard and select Save Ink 4. To close Digital Ink Layer, from the top boarder, click on the icon Floating Tools The Floating Tools allow you to access SMART Board tools when you re not using the SMART Notebook software. The toolbar appears on the left side and it can be customized. To customize Floating Toolbar- click on the customize button, from the properties dialog box, add buttons by selecting them and slide to the tool bar using your finger or mouse. o Spotlight highlight a specific area of the board o Magnifier magnifies specific are of the board o Screen Shade Cover the board, moves in any direction to reveal what is covered. 3

Notebook Software 17 You can draw or write on the pages using the pen tools from the pen tray or the SMART Notebook software toolbar, access thousands of objects from the Gallery, hyperlink, and copy & delete pages with SMART Notebook software. Welcome Screen From the welcome screen access links to new Notebook features and content, file sharing, along with recent files and examples. Create a file: 1. From the welcome screen, click on Create a New File or click on to open SMART Notebook software from the floating toolbar. Toolbar: 4

SMART Lab: Create interactive learning experiences in less than five minutes, engage and amaze students. Add a blank page: 1. From the Toolbar, click on to add a blank page. 2. Use the Page Sorter tab, click and drag page to move. 3. Click on the down arrow to delete, clear, or rename a page. 4. Use the Gallery to add objects to a page. From the Gallery tab, within the Gallery Sampler, select a category and double click on the object to add to a page. 5

Setting Page Backgrounds Or From the Format menu, select Page, and Set Background Fil Figure 1Teq Usability 102a: Key Points to Review Using the Gallery From the Gallery Tab, search for objects, browse folders, additionally if you can t find what you need, you can copy and paste images from the internet and your computer. There are over 6,000 objects available for your use. Lesson Activity Toolkit A library of interactive objects as well as pre-made activities. A good way to start, explore and play with the content and Lesson Activity Examples. 6

Attaching documents: 5. From the Attachments tab, click on the Insert button (lower right), select one of the three choices; Insert Copy of File, Insert Hyperlink, Insert Shortcut To Files. 6. After inserting a document, double click on the file to open. Properties: When you select a button from the Tools panel, additional buttons appear. Additional properties can still be found from the Properties tab and in the object s drop-down menu. Work with objects: 1. Use the pen tool to create an object. From the Toolbar, click on the pen tool and select from the properties tool bar. 7

2. From the Toolbar, click on the shape tool and select from the properties toolbar to create a shape. 3. From the Toolbar, click on the line tool and select from the properties toolbar to create a line. 4. Click on an object, click on the down arrow and select properties from the drop down list to modify an object. 5. From the Selection Properties, select formatting for line color, fill color, thickness, style and transparency. 6. With object selected, click and hold the green circle to rotate the object. Infinite Cloner From the objects drop down menu, select Infinite Cloner. 8

Grouping Objects on a page can be grouped together. Select objects to be grouped, click and drag across objects and select Grouping from the drop-down menu. Ordering and Locking Objects Objects are either in front or behind other objects, the order can be changed. Change order select object and select Order from the drop-down menu. Lock in place select object and select Locking from the drop-down menu. Linking Everything you add to a page is an object and you can make your lessons more interactive by using Linking. 1. Web pages launch a web page from any object. 2. Pages in your file move seamlessly from one page to another 3. Files on your computer- launch or open an application, document, picture 4. Current attachments attach files directly to notebook lessons 9

Text: The text tool has nested bullets, numbering with hanging indents, adjustable line spacing, font previews, and the basic formatting options. How to add content to a Notebook page: Pick up a pen and start writing o Resize, rotate, and recognize your handwriting Tap n Type tap on the board where you want the text and type from your keyboard o Edit font, color, size, and alignment of text Crayon Tool: Create crayon-style drawings using the Crayon tool. Drop down arrow- Additional formatting tools Custom Creative Pen: Use your own images or select an object on the page to create a new Creative Pen. 10

Fading Ink: Customize your pens so when you write, the ink fades away after a few seconds. Magic Pen: 3 pens in one tool 1. Invisible Ink ink will fade away in about 5 seconds 2. Spotlight draw a complete circle, spotlight feature will be enabled. 3. Magnifier- draw a rectangle, move select lower region and move around page, zoom- in or out, drag from the center of rectangle. Note: The shape must be drawn in a continuous pen stoke to activate either the Spotlight or the Magnifier. Sound Recorder: Record a short sound clip to attach to an object on the page. 11

Add-ons Tab Create interactive lesson activities using the Activity Builder, Image Web Search, YouTube, Lesson Recorder, SMART Blocks and GeoGebra. Using the Activity Builder: Create matching activities, sorting activities, labeling activities, games and more using the Activity Builder. The activity object is the container. 1. Select the object to be the activity object, and click Edit. Diagonal lines appear on the activity object. 2. From the Object tab, drag objects to the appropriate areas accept or reject. 3. From the Settings tab, set how objects behave when accepted or rejected and click on Done. Lesson Recorder: Record and playback activities in a Notebook page to demonstrate a point and engage students. 12

Using SMART Blocks 1. Drag the block onto page, using a pen write a number and connect to block. 2. Connect by drawing a line to block. Inserting GeoGebra GeoGebra is interactive mathematics software for all education levels. Insert the GeoGebra widget in a page; explore geometry, algebra, tables, graphing, and more. 1. GeoGebra Manual: http://wiki.geogebra.org/en/manual Using SMART Notebook Document Writer Print to Board The Print to Board feature in SMART Notebook allows you to convert any Windows application document into a SMART Notebook file that you can print and share. 1. Open a Windows application document 2. From the File menu, select Print. 3. From the Print dialog box, select SMART Notebook Document Writer and click on Print. 4. From the SMART Notebook Documents Writer printer dialog box, select appropriate choice. 5. Select Print to SMART Notebook document will open a Notebook file. 6.
