How to establish a Wireless Ethernet connection between the BigComm Pro GEN4 software running on a PC and GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU The communication between the BigComm Pro GEN4 software running on a PC and GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU is based on a Wireless Ethernet connection. The Wireless Ethernet communication can be established once the following connections are made: The 5 CAT6a Ethernet cable is connected between the GEN4 PRO XTREME Wireless Router s RJ45 Ethernet LAN port and GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU s RJ45 Ethernet port. And, for In-Vehicle applications, the Micro USB/USB2.0 Power Cable is connected between the GEN4 PRO XTREME GLiNet In-Vehicle Wireless Router s Micro USB Power port and either the USB2.0 port on the PC or the Dual 5V/2.4A USB2.0 Car Charger installed into the vehicle s 12 VDC power accessory port ( cigarette lighter ). (See the GEN4 PRO XTREME In-Vehicle Wireless Ethernet Network Configuration located under the GEN4 PRO XTREME section on the BS3 website) And, for Race Car applications, the Race Car Wireless Router / DC/DC Converter / Battery Power Interface Harness is connected between the NETGEAR N600 Race Car Wireless Router s 12V DC plug, the DC/DC converter and Battery (+) & (-). (See the GEN4 PRO XTREME Race Care Wireless Ethernet Network Configuration located under the GEN4 PRO XTREME section on the BS3 website. The following steps detail how to establish wireless communication between the BigComm Pro GEN4 software running on a PC and GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU for In- Vehicle applications using the yellow GLiNet Wireless Router or Race Car applications using the NETGEAR N600 Wireless Router. 1
Note: The GEN4 PRO XTREME system includes an ID card that identifies the GEN4 Wireless Network Name (GLiNet or NETGEAR) and Security Key (Password) as shown below. The GEN4 Wireless Network Name (GLiNet or NETGEAR) and Security Key (Password) are required to establish the initial wireless communication between the BigComm Pro software running on a PC and GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU. Be sure not to misplace the GEN4 Wireless Network Name and Security Key (Password) ID card. STEP 1: Establish a wireless connection between PC & GEN4 Wireless Network Power up the PC and from the PC desktop window left mouse click on the Wireless Network icon. 2
Once the Wireless Network window opens, highlight and left mouse click on the GEN4 Wireless Network name. For this example, the GEN4 Wireless Network Name is; GEN4 WIFI GLiNET 0005, per the above GEN4 Wireless Network Name (GLiNet or NETGEAR) and Security Key (Password) ID card. Always be sure to highlight and left mouse click on the GEN4 Wireless Network Name (GLiNet or NETGEAR) that appears on the ID card included with your GEN4 PRO XTREME system. Note: The GEN4 Wireless Network uses two naming conventions dependent on which wireless router is being used. If the yellow GLiNet In-Vehicle wireless router is being used, the GEN4 Wireless Network naming convention is GEN4 WIFI GLiNET 0001 thru 9999. If the NETGEAR N600 Race Car wireless router is being used, the GEN4 Wireless Network naming convention is GEN4 WIFI NETGEAR 0001 thru 9999. 3
Once the GEN4 WIFI GLiNET dialogue window opens, check the Connect automatically box and then highlight and left mouse click on Connect. Once Connect is selected, the following dialogue window will open asking to Enter the network security key, also referred to as the GEN4 Wireless Network Security Key (Password). 4
For this example, the GEN4 Wireless Network Security Key (Password) is; vsrgfnxv, per the above GEN4 Wireless Network Name (GLiNet) and Security Key (Password) ID card. Note: Be sure to use the GEN4 Wireless Network Security Key (Password) as it appears on the GEN4 Wireless Network Name (GLiNet) and Security Key (Password) ID card included with your GEN4 PRO XTREME system. Type the GEN4 Wireless Network Security Key (Password) under the Enter the network security key as shown below and highlight and left mouse click on Next. Note: The provided GEN4 Wireless Network Security Key (Password) is not required to be entered again after the initial wireless connection between a specific PC & GEN4 Wireless Network has been established. The only time the provided Wireless Network Password is required to be entered again is to establish a new wireless connection between a different PC running the BigComm Pro software and GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU. You can change the GEN4 Wireless Network Password. Instructions on how to change the GEN4 Wireless Network Password are located on the BS3 website under the GEN4 PRO XTREME section. 5
In some instances, after left mouse clicking on Next in the previous step, the following dialogue window will open asking; Do you want to allow your PC to be discoverable by other PCs and devices on this network?. If so, highlight and left mouse click on No. Once No is selected, the following window will open showing your specific GEN4 WIFI GLiNET (0001 thru 9999) network is Checking network requirements and is attempting to establish a wireless connection with the PC. 6
After a brief period of time, the following window will open to indicate the wireless network connection has been established between the PC and your specific GEN4 WIFI GLiNET (0001 thru 9999). Reminder: The GEN4 Wireless Network name will be GEN4 WIFI GLiNET (0001 thru 9999) if using the yellow GLiNET In-Vehicle wireless router. The GEN4 Wireless Network name will be GEN4 WIFI NETGEAR (0001 thru 9999) if using the NETGEAR N600 Race Car wireless router. Once the wireless network connection has been established between the PC and GEN4 Wireless Network as detailed above in Step 1, the next step is to establish a wireless connection between a PC running BigComm Pro software & GEN4 Wireless Router connected to the GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU via the 5 CAT6a Shielded Ethernet cable. 7
STEP 2: Establish wireless connection between a PC running BigComm Pro GEN4 software & Wireless Router connected to the GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU via the 5 CAT6a Shielded Ethernet cable Power up the PC and be sure a wireless network connection is established between the PC and GEN4 Wireless Network as detailed above in Step 1. Once established, left double mouse click on the BigComm Pro GEN4 software icon located on PC desktop window as shown below. Once the BigComm Pro GEN4 software icon is double clicked on the software will open as shown below. 8
Note: When the BigComm Pro (BCP) GEN4 software opens, the main window displays a history log of the GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU Serial Numbers it has connected to previously. The history log will not appear if the BCP GEN4 software is connecting to a GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU for the first time. At this point, you can choose to work offline (not connected to GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU) with the BCP GEN4 software relative to a specific GEN4 ECU Serial Number or online (connected to GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU) with the BCP GEN4 software relative to a specific GEN4 ECU Serial Number. The BCP GEN4 software cannot establish online communication with the GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU until the switched ignition is powered on. Once the switched ignition key is powered on, the BCP GEN4 software communication will go online automatically if no history log appears or by selecting Connect to establish online communications with a specific GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU Serial Number displayed in the history log. 9
Once the BCP GEN4 software establishes wireless online communication with the GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU, a BCP GEN4 software Main window, similar to what is shown below, will appear. That s it You re now communicating wirelessly online between the BCP GEN4 software and GEN4 PRO XTREME ECU! 10
