A Sample PowerPoint Tutorial The Technology Integration Example (Classroom Revolutions) at the beginning of Chapter 9 showed how teachers might showed how a teacher might have students use Internet sites to research a novel and report their findings in a PowerPoint presentation. Using the tutorial below, create a sample PowerPoint book report like the example shown here. Required System Settings 1. This tutorial assumes that you have installed Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer, including all additional fonts and clip art. If you do not have the fonts and clip art used in this tutorial, you can substitute others that you have on your system. 2. Before you begin, be sure to have the Standard, Formatting and Drawing Toolbars available. Click View > Toolbars to select these as shown at the left.

Open Microsoft PowerPoint 2. Format slide 2.1 Click Format > Slide Layout 2.2 Click Title Only in the Task Pane at right 2.3 Click checkbox at bottom of Slide Layout Task Pane

2.4 Click Format > Slide Design 2.5 Scroll down and click the Level Design Template 3. Save File 3.1 Click the Save Icon 3.2 Enter Book Report for File Name 3.3 Click Save Note: Save your work frequently to prevent data loss

4. Edit Slide Master 4.1 Click View > Master > Slide Master 4.2 Double click on brown rectangle at upper left 4.3 Change fill color to dark blue 4.4 Click OK

4.6 Change fill color to white 4.5 Double click on center rectangle 4.7 Change line color to Dark Blue. Click OK when done. 4.8 Change bottom rectangle to Red. 4.9 Double Click on the line 4.10 Change line color to Dark Blue. Click OK when done.

4.11 Triple click on the Title 4.12 Change color to Dark Blue 4.13 Click Insert > Picture > Clip Art 4.14 Enter military under Search for:

4.15 Scroll down to find choice 4.16 Click thumbnail to insert image 4.17 Click & Drag corner image handle to resize image 4.18 Click & Drag image to location 4.19 Click View > Normal

5. Enter Text 5.1 Click and enter title of the book 5.2 Triple click on title to highlight 5.3 Click Format > Font 5.4 Set Font: Garamond Style: Bold Size: 44 Color: Dark Blue 5.5 Click away from text box to deselect

5.6 Click Insert > Text Box 5.7 Text Box will expand as you enter text 5.8 Click & drag to highlight text 5.9 Set font size to 28

6. Insert Image 6.1 Click the Insert Clip Art icon on the Drawing Toolbar 6.2 Search for France 6.3 Click image to insert 6.4 Resize & move as necessary

7. Create New Slide 7.1 Click Insert > New Slide 7.2 Again click the Title Only layout 7.3 Click and enter Setting for the title of the new slide 7.4 Highlight text 7.5 Click Bold icon

7.6 Click the Insert Text Box icon on the Drawing Toolbar 7.7 Text Box will expand as you enter the text 7.8 Click the Insert Clip Art icon on the Drawing Toolbar 7.9 Search for Paris 7.10 Scroll down to find choice 7.11 Click thumbnail to insert image

7.12 Resize and move image as needed 8. Additional Slides 8.1 Follow the same steps from 7 above, to create the remaining slides Search for Woman Search for Businessmen Search for Judges

15 seconds 25 seconds 15 seconds 9.9 Follow steps 9.7 & 9.8 to set the timing for the remaining slides 9.10 Click Slide Show > Set Up Show 9.11 Click Loop continuously 9.12 Click OK

10. Animations 10.1 Click thumbnail of second slide 10.2 Click Slide Show > Custom Animation 10.3 Click text box to select 10.4 Click Add Effect > Entrance > Peek In

10.5 Change Direction to From Right 10.6 Change Start to After Previous 10.7 Change Speed to Fast 10.8 Click thumbnail of third slide 10.9 Hold down the Ctrl key while clicking each text box to select all three

10.10 Click Add Effect > Entrance > Peek In 10.11 Change Direction to From Top 10.12 Change Start to After Previous 10.13 Change Speed to Fast 10.14 Continue this animation scheme for the remaining slides 11. View Slide Show 11.1 Click Slide Show > View Show (You can also press the F5 key at the top of your keyboard 11.2 Press the Esc key to stop the show

12. Printing 12.1 Click File > Print 12.2 Use these setting to print each slide separately (e.g. printing overhead transparencies) 12.3 Use these setting to print handouts
