President s Message Dear Member I am pleased to share your Chapter s activities for the months of May Jun 2012. ISACA Karachi conducted workshop Your Chapter conducted a workshop on How IT adds value to Enterprises on Wednesday June 6, 2012 at Marriot Hotel, Karachi. Presentation was given by Mr.Faisal Ejaz Khan (Chief Executive Officer of 1Link Guarantee Ltd). Two CPE Hours were awarded to the chapter members.a large number of Chapter members attended the event. ISACA Karachi Chapter won Best Website Award from ISACA. I am very delighted to inform you that your chapter has won ISACA Silver-level website award for the year 2011. The Chapter website judgment process for the year 2011 was completed in April 2012. Among 190 plus chapters of ISACA International worldwide, this year, the website award has been won by 80 chapters, and your chapter is among one of them. Please accept my heartiest congratulations on this marvelous achievement of your chapter. Two days workshop on BS-25999 on 21-22 June 2012 M/s.Quest Consultants conducted a 2 days training workshop on "BS 25999 Business Continuity Management Standard" at Hotel Marriott Karachi. Your chapter awarded 14 CPE Hours to members attended the workshop and Quest Consultants offered 10% discount to the members of ISACA Karachi Chapter. ISACA e-learning Campus The CISA Online Review Course is available on the ISACA e-learning Campus. This interactive, web based course was developed to provide Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA ) exam candidates and ISACA members with an efficient and cost-effective tool for exam preparation and performing information systems audits and reviews. President s Message New CPE Policy from 2012 Effective 1 January 2012, the annual limitation for each ISACA certification for qualifying activities that fall under contributions to the profession has been increased from a 10-hour annual limitation to a 20-hour annual limitation. These activities include work performed for ISACA and other bodies that contribute to the IT audit, control, security and governance professions (i.e., research development, certification review manual development, Knowledge Center contributions). The new policies can be viewed online on the CISA, CISM, CGEIT and CRISC CPE Policy pages. COBIT 5 released COBIT 5 has been released. You may know that COBIT 5 is a major strategic improvement, providing the next generation of guidance on the governance and management of enterprise IT. I suggest you utilize this valuable resource which is the latest release by ISACA. ISACA KARACHI CHAPTER WON SILVER-LEVEL WEBSITE AWARD FOR 2011 Every year, the ISACA International Chapter Support Committee reviews websites of different chapters around the globe. Chapters are recognized as Gold,- Silver-, or Bronze-level winners. This is a moment of pride for ISACA Karachi Chapter for winning the Silver-Level Website Award for the year 2011. The award process was based on a thorough judging criteria which generates a scorecard. The Chapter website judgment process for the year 2011 was completed in April 2012. ISACA International News & Alerts CGEIT Surpasses the 5,000 Mark ISACA is proud to announce that in March 2012 the 5,000 th individual earned the CGEIT certification since the program s inception. Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) recognition The board of directors of the Phoenixbased National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) has approved the creation of a new category of auditor specifically for conducting electronic media destruction audits. Effective 1 April 2012, NAID auditors inspecting and evaluating electronic media sanitization operations will be required to have the CISA and the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certifications. Learn more on the NAID web site. December 2012 exam registration The December exam is scheduled for 8 December 2012. Once open, registrations can be placed on the Exam Registration page of the ISACA web site. Members can then be encouraged to take advantage of the 15 August 2012 early-bird registration deadline. Online Verification of Karachi Vehicles Online Vehicle Verification for Karachi has been launched by the department of Excise and Taxation Sindh, Pakistan. Now online web users can check & verify the status of any vehicle by entering its Vehicle Registration number (number plate) into the searching criteria. The service is offered for both two wheelers and four wheeler vehicles. The portal reveals vehicle information like its official owner, tax paid, CPLC/Police clearance, make/model/engine etc. This online service will be very much helpful especially for vehicle buyers in Karachi, who could now verify the status of any vehicle with their fingertips prior to buying. Amongst many innovative projects there were five short-listed projects presented by the teams on this occasion. The top teams decided by the jury comprising of three judges would be sent to Casablanca, The IEF (Innovative Education Forum) is part of Microsoft PIL (Partners In Learning) program, which works with governments and education leaders around the world at the national, state and local levels to deliver a portfolio of professional development, curricula, tools and resources designed to advance 21 st century teaching, learning and digital inclusion that improve learning outcomes for every student. Teachers are the greatest catalysts of development, capable of changing a nation s mindset and steering the country to progress by working at the very grass root level.
