High-density multi-pin connectors Mating and mounting conditions to DIN 41612/IEC 60603-2 General With the ever increasing miniaturization and higher packaging densities in highly integrated circuits there is in many cases a need for more contact interfaces. This development is being met by high-density multi-pin connectors. Efficient wiring techniques such as solderless press-fit permit the user to fit these connectors in the new assemblies. The following sizes are available from ERNI: Size E 160 160 contacts in 5 rows Size TE 160 (reversed style) 160 contacts in 5 rows Size CD 128 128 contacts in 4 rows Size RD 128 (reversed style) 128 contacts in 4 rows The wiring accessories available comprise the ERNI interface connector system KSG 173. This means that mating interfaces are possible both on the front panel and on the wiring side between the internal and external wiring. To prevent the plug-in cards being confused there is the option of coding the connectors using coding strips, or an alternative method using sizes E 160, TE, CD and RD with coding wedges. Termination techniques For the ERNIPRESS solderless press-fit termination technique from ERNI there is a separate data sheet available. For potential applications of the ERNI mating interface system for the front panel and wiring side and for ordering information please refer to the Mateable transfer wiring-system data sheet. This data sheet gives a brief description of the types of coding available for the high-density multi-pin connectors. For exact ordering details there is a separate data sheet available. www.erni.com/contact/ 53

Pre-centering For applications of connectors with early make/last break contacts the male connector moulding with pre-centering ensures even more reliable mating. The mouldings of the female connectors have a recess at an appropriate point. The dimensions of these versions do not conform to the specifications of DIN 41612/IEC 60603-2. The ordering details are not listed in this data sheet but they can be supplied on request. s with pre-centering do not fit female connectors without a pre-centering recess. Fastening clip For efficient mounting of the angled connectors ERNI offers a mounting clip. This clip is fitted to the connector at the manufactures. The connectors are attached to the PC board, max. thickness of pcb= 1,6 mm. Since the clips can also be soldered, plated-through PCB holes are recommended in such applications. Versions with fastening clip on request. Example how to order www.erni.com/contact/ 55

DIN 41612/IEC 60603-2: No end to be forseen High-density connections according to DIN 41612/IEC 60603-2 ERNI connectors to DIN 41612/IEC 60603-2 provide up to 400 contacts on one doubble Eurocard in the 19-inch system and up to 480 contacts on metric boards. As a result, they make use of the space available on highly integrated printed circuit boards while retaining optimum signal transmission. A continuous contact grid of 2.54 mm allows a standard layout and problem-free integration. The pre-centering for male connectors with leading ensures reliable insertion of the printed boards. 0.8 mm leading blade contacts for ESD protection as well as integrated polarization coding by means of code polarizing keys are possible. The press-fit technology allows the economical mounting of components. For soldering versions with solder pins are available.
