SkillsManager TM Business advantage through IT skills management A powerful new approach to identify and effectively manage the IT skills within your organisation

SkillsManager TM Business advantage through IT skills management BCS Skills Manager is a powerful new software solution to identify and effectively manage the IT skills within your organisation. It will help you to better understand your most important business asset your people and allow you to match your business requirements against your people s skills. BCS Skills Manager uses a skills inventory: a database of all your IT staff; their skills and specialisms are benchmarked against an external standard and configured to the specific organisational structure and skills profiles of your business. You can then analyse skills shortfalls and identify what skills you require for particular projects. Skills Manager is a browser-based application available either as an internet hosted service or a local intranet solution. SFIAplus TM the IT skills, training and development framework BCS Career Developer Plan your skills development The Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) is the UK recognised model of the skills needed to develop effective information systems. The BCS has aligned its own training and development standard, the Industry Structure Model (ISM), with SFIA to create SFIAplus, a more comprehensive tool that not only enables organisations to classify and benchmark their IT skills, but also to train and develop their team to meet industry standard IT skill requirements. This reference to an external framework is a critical component of BCS Skills Manager as it: describes IT skills in a common language and a logical structure is independent and government backed has been validated by public and private sector organisations enables you to benchmark your IT skills against the standards defined by the IT industry.

There are just six simple stages in the BCS Skills Manager methodology: Explore SFIAplus Explore the full framework, a two dimensional matrix which divides the whole of IT into skills (or functions) along one axis and defines seven levels of responsibility and accountability on the other. For over 300 SFIAplus tasks (or roles) view: Select project teams/ identify experts Identify the skills required for a particular project and select individuals with those skills from your central skills inventory. Explore SFIAplus level and task description background work activities knowledge and skills training activities professional development activities qualifications Use the powerful search facilities to find the appropriate skill area. Select project teams/identify experts Perform gap analysis SkillsManager TM Generate corporate job descriptions Set up organisation structure Generate corporate job descriptions Industry recognised roles can be combined to create corporate job descriptions which will define the level and work activities required for the position and the knowledge, skills, training and development that the postholder will require. These job descriptions can be fully tailored to the unique requirements of your organisation. Perform gap analysis Powerful gap analysis reports highlight skills shortfalls. Drill down to look at the details and manage the identified gaps in skill sets. Assessment and confirmation Set up organisation structure Set up the specific organisational structure of your enterprise including departments, teams and individual posts. Job descriptions and people can then be assigned to those posts. Assessment & confirmation Individuals assess themselves against the SFIAplus framework and any specialisms you have defined as valuable to their role or your organisation. This provides an external benchmark of their skills and competence which is then confirmed by their manager.
