Level 2 Develpment Training Vide Capture 2 - Overview Level 1 intrduced three distinct learning paths which all cnverge when discussing telepresence slutins. They are Plycm terminlgy fr features and functins, technical netwrk terminlgy which is used t detail hw thse features and functins wrk, and als the actual slutins themselves. We will develp each f these three paths further thrugh each training level, but first we will recap the key pints cvered s far which specifically apply t endpints and take a lk at what is cming up. Level 1 Recap Vide terminlgy Live stream the ability t watch a recrding as it is being made in real time Cntent the sharing f a cmputer desktp r similar as part f a cnference Plycm Vide Capture slutins. Level 2 Overview RSS 4000 (Recrding & Streaming Server) a netwrk-based vide cnferencing slutin that gives cmpanies the ability t recrd cnference calls, prduce archive files f the recrdings, and simultaneusly stream the cnferences t up t 200 emplyees Plycm Capture Statin a rm-based device that recrds presentatins in rms that are nt equipped with cnferencing technlgy. It can be easily mved int any envirnment fr quick set-up and use (nt discussed further in this guide) We will nw begin lking specifically at the RSS 4000, hw it is built and hw the entire range fits tgether in terms f value prpsitin and psitining. We will als take a deeper lk at sme f the features and benefits and intrduce sme mre cncepts which are ften part f discussins invlving recrding and streaming slutins.
Level 2 Develpment Training Vide Capture 3 Key Features There are three versins f the RSS 4000; all utilize the same chassis and sftware, but are licenced differently. The fundamental difference between the different versins is the number f cncurrent recrdings which can be made 5, 10 r 15 depending n the mdel, knwn as Small, Medium and Large respectively. All three mdels can als prvide 100 brwser cnnectins fr end-users t view the live stream. In additin t this, the RSS can recrd and stre up t tw different recrdings at different reslutins, fr example an SD and HD versin, plus an MP4 versin f the same archive. It is wrth mentining that the RSS is the nly recrding and streaming slutin which allws playback frm an endpint, and nt just a brwser. The RSS can be access frm any pen standards endpint via IP address r E.164 alias, and cntrlled using far end camera cntrl t recrd, pause, stp, delete and play back archives. Sftware Keys As mentined in Level 1, a sftware key is used t unlck extra features shuld they be required by the custmer. Sftware keys are available fr the fllwing features: 5 t 10 cncurrent recrding upgrade Can nly be added t a 5-prt RSS 4000 10 t 15 cncurrent recrding upgrade Can nly be added t a 10-prt RSS 4000 (upgrading frm 5 t 15 prts requires bth licences) HD Live Streaming / 200 viewer upgrade Encryptin Multicast This can be added t any RSS 4000 versin Unlcks the capability f allwing an additinal 100 viewers Unlcks the capability f streaming 1 HD recrding live This is a n-cst ptin which can nly be added in sme cuntries due t lcal laws; check availability prir t applying the licence if unsure Multicast is a capability which allws the sending f the same stream t many participants simultaneusly. As standard the RSS sends streams unicast, meaning that each stream is sent separately, even thse being transmitted at the same time. The restrictin f a maximum f 200 web viewers is due t the prcessing requirement f sending 200 unicast streams, but this restrictin des nt apply when using multicast.
Level 2 Develpment Training Vide Capture Archive Management The RSS 4000 is managed via a brwser UI in a similar fashin t mst RealPresence Platfrm prducts. As well as server management, it is als pssible t start, pause and stp a recrding as well. The UI can als be used t dial ut t an endpint t start a recrding, dwnlad an existing archive r pen up a live stream fr viewing. Active Directry Integratin A simple integratin prcess allws every user in the Active Directry t have their wn lgn t the RSS. Access cntrls can als be applied at a user r grup level t restrict administrative access withut the lss f availability fr all ther users. Plycm Cnferencing fr Outlk The RSS is als available as part f the PCO slutin. If jined as part f the verall implementatin, cnferences can be recrded and streamed using the link in the calendar invitatin. These recrdings can als be dwnladed after the event. Virtual Recrding Rms Using a similar mdel t the RMX cnference platfrm, the RSS uses templates t define the basic features f a recrding such as the primary and secndary line rates, screen layut, hw t shw cntent etc. A virtual recrding rm (VRR) then pints t a template when created, and fllws these variables when recrding. If used in cnjunctin with Active Directry integratin users can dial int their wn autmatically generated VRR; the benefit f this is that when viewing archives frm an endpint it is pssible t nly see the archives in the user s wn meeting rm. This makes it much simpler t navigate, especially in an envirnment where the RSS is being heavily utilized.
Level 2 Develpment Training Vide Capture 5 - Architecture RSS Chassis All the mdels which encmpass the VBP range are built using Linux, which is very secure and nt susceptible t netwrk threats r attacks. The RSS has a 2RU rack-muntable chassis, cmplete with dual ht swappable pwer supplies. It has tw 1TB hard drives cnfigured in a RAID-1 frmatin, which means that ne f the hard drives is used fr recrding and the ther autmatically makes a cmplete cpy f the first hard drive in case f failure r crruptin (RAID stands fr Redundant Arrays f Inexpensive Disks and there are a number f standards which have all been given a number fr simple identificatin) Capability Overview The capability f the RSS is dependent nt nly n the licencing but als n all the ther variables using prcessing pwer simultaneusly.
