FEATURES Multi Drop Configuration of up to 32 units Baud Rates Ranging from 300 to 38,400bps 1:1 /1:N / N:M (RS-422) Communication is Supported Supports Full-Duplex (RS-422) and Half-Duplex (RS-485) Built-in Modem Communication Function, Enabling Long Distance Communication. RS-232C Peer-to-Peer Communication DESCRIPTION PLC-COM-CM1-SC Series The CIMON line of Communication Modules allows the user to incorporate additional units into a system without having to worry about numerous communication protocols. RS-232 and RS-422/485 are widely used serial communication electrical standards that can be thought of as protocol independent. Manufacturers often times conform to an industry standard such as MODBUS or write their own protocol which they release to the end user. This communication line offers RS-232C and RS-422/485 modules to suit your system needs. The RS-232C and RS-422/485 units are utilized for communication with production line controllers and drives via MODBUS or any other ASCII-based protocol. Item Specification Op.Temp. Slot: Number of the slot on which the communication module is mounted. - The slot number is counted from the slot next to the CPU module like beginning at 0, then 111. 3) Enter values to set up the parameters used in a communication card for Channels 1 and 2. Read: This is used to read and displace the currently set parameter of the RS-232C/422 module which is mounted on a slot from buffer memory. Current Status: This is used to read and display the error status, version, and PLC link status
RS-232C/422 has the ability to use the public network to create a long distance network. This is possible by sending and receiving a phone call after connecting a RS-232C/422 module to an external modem. MODEM COMMUNICATIONS Warning: Depending on the state of the public network and the performance of the modem, a line may be cut off or have trouble linking during the data exchange. - It is required that the modem comply with the recommended specifications for reliability: 1. Baud Rate: Over 14,400 bps 2. DTE Interface: CTS/RTS Flow Control 3. Command: AT Command 4. Error Connection: While Sending Data 5. Controlling Carrier: Controls to Send Carrier - How to connect an external modem with an RS-232C/422 module 1. Use an RS-232C interface cable to connect a computer link module and an RS-232C modem. 2. Connect an RS-232C interface cable to the RS-232C port of the computer link module and DTE link terminal. 3. Connect the telephone line of a public network to the line terminal of the modem. 4. If there is a telephone set, connect the telephone terminal of the modem with the telephone set. 5. When turning on the power for the PLC and the modem, make sure the modem is initial- HMI EXCLUSIVE SERVICE The HMI exclusive service is used to read or write information from the PC and other devices to the PLC. This service can also control the PLC s current state (RUN, STOP, PAUSE). If utilizing multi-drop communication, station numbers must be assigned along with a master or slave configuration. - In case of exclusive communication mode, station numbers must be assigned through the Special Card Setup. - All the frames used in exclusive communication are composed of ASCII code. - In case of multi-drop, access up to 32 stations is allowed. - There must not be duplicate station numbers in the network. In case of multi-drop network configuration, the baud rate, stop bit, parity bit, and data bit of an RS-232C/422 network must all be the same. - To use the HMI exclusive service, HMI protocol should be selected as the operation mode in the RS-232C/422 special card setup. If an RS-232C/422 module is used in PLC Link Protocol, check the Ch. 1 checkbox in the operation mode of Ch. 2. In this case, the data received by Ch. 1 (RS232C) is received and sent to Ch. 2 (RS422/485).
