VIC: Video Integrated Content VIC is a video storage library that allows you to easily connect and share your videos with your students. Loading videos directly into courses can cause a number of issues, from trouble downloading and watching the video, to trouble moving your course content when the time comes. With VIC, you can avoid those problems, as well as have an easier way to update videos that are connected to your courses. This document will cover how to add videos to your VIC library, using some tools within VIC, and how to connect those videos with your Moodle courses. Adding Videos to VIC Log in to VIC through vic.nsula.edu. If you cannot log in, you may need to request an account. Contact Chris Brumley using his email listed on the log in screen (brumleyc@nsula.edu). Once logged in, you will see your video library. To add a video, click the green Add button at the top of the video library. On the first tab, titled Description, the only required field is the title of the video. If you enter keywords in the keywords section, you can search for your video in your library using those keywords as well as the title. This is for instructors who plan on having a lot of videos that they may need to find later. Click Continue to move forward.
The second tab, titled Manage Content, is where you upload the video file. Drag and drop the file into the space labeled or click Add File. Click Start Upload to upload the video file to VIC. This may take a couple of minutes depending on the size of the file. Wait for the file to finish uploading before continuing to the next step. When the file is ready, it will jump down into the lower Media Section of the page as seen below. Click Continue once the file is in this section of this page.
Tip: If you ever need to update the video, simply click Edit beneath the video in your library and return to this tab. Here you can delete the old file and upload the new file. This way, the video is still connected to all of its courses but has been updated in one easy step! The next tab is the Publish tab. Here you can choose to share the video with any shared libraries or other instructors. If you have not created a playlist, or shared libraries with other users, simply skip this page and click Publish. Now your video is published, and you return to your video library. The video must fully convert before it can be watched. Depending on the size of the video, this may take some time. You can share the video now, but it will not play until it is finished converting and Ready is shown beneath the video s title.
Title your resource appropriately. You do not have to enter a description, but if you add a description, check the small box beneath the text box for it to show on the main Moodle page. In the Page Content, Toggle the Toolbar to show all features. Click on the Insert Moodle Media filmstrip button. Click through the Find or upload a sound, video or applet button.
In the following window, the left toolbar includes the VIC plugin option. Click this option and you will be connected to your VIC account. Choose the video you want to share here. Click the small play button below the video thumbnail to preview the video and select the green plus to choose that video. Click Save in the next screen. Simply click through the next confirmation windows to insert the video. Once your back on the Page Content page, you will see a link in the Page Content window. Now your video is inserted! When you click Save and Display or Save and Return to Course, Moodle will replace the link with the VIC video player. Feel free to add text before and after the video, or add another video using the same process. Hit enter to place text or video on the next line.
Using the Embed Code If the VIC Plugin did not work, or simply as an alternative, you can use the Embed code to share it in your course. For this process, follow the steps above up to creating your Page in your Moodle course. Open VIC in another tab or window and click the Embed button beneath your video of choice. In this window, you can adjust how the video will appear. After customizing the options to your liking, copy the Embed code. Tip: If you choose iframe Responsive, the video s size will adjust to the size of the viewer s window.
Navigate back to Moodle and click the HTML Editor icon in the Page Content toolbar. Paste the Embed code (ctrl+v) in the window that appears and click Update. Now your video will appear in the Page Content! You can press enter and add more videos or text to the page as well.
