Livingston County MAP User Guide Need help with the Livingston County MAP? Click the button located on each tool s window to view the help documentation for that specific tool. If you need additional information about the tools or map widgets, please read the relevant section for the tool below. NAVIGATION TOOLS Pan left (<) or right (>), up (Λ) or down (V) Go to full extent of map Go back to previous map extent (<), Go forward to next extent (>) Fixed zoom in (+), Fixed zoom out (-), Levels controlled by map caches IDENTIFY TOOL The identify tool allows a user to retrieve all attribute information for a feature. If there are related tables for this feature (true ArcGIS relationship classes) these tables will be displayed on a separate tab. Page 1 of 10
DRAW TOOL The draw tool is used to annotate the map with drawings of various colors. These annotations can then be printed using some of the printing tasks. MEASURE TOOL The measure tool allows the user to measure a distance on the map as a line or as an area. The user can choose the units in which the measurement is displayed. Page 2 of 10
COORDINATE TOOL The coordinate tool displays the coordinates of a point that is clicked on the map and can convert that point to a different coordinate system. In addition, the user can manually input the coordinates of a point and the tool will show the user where this point is on the map. BIRD S EYE TOOL The Bird s Eye tool opens another window that displays a 45 degree angle view of the area clicked on the map. Page 3 of 10
STREET VIEW TOOL The street view tool uses the Google Maps API to show the street view at the location clicked. The use is alerted if a street view is unavailable. NEIGHBOR NOTIFICATION (PARCEL QUERY AND NOTIFICATION - PQN) TOOL The neighbor notification tool is used to select a parcel or parcels and download an excel spreadsheet of the names and address for the owner/occupant or both. The parcels can be selected manually, searched for using the property search tab, and can then be buffered to search adjoining parcels. Page 4 of 10
TASKS The tasks are the widgets that sit on the task bar to the left of the map. These widgets do not require map clicks to function. PROPERTY SEARCH The property search widget enables a user to search parcels by address, tax map id and owner name (if so configured). Partial inputs are fine. Results are listed on the widget and for each result the user can pan to the result, zoom to the result, view the attributes for the result, create a report for the result and use this parcel as the selected parcel in the select and/or notify tool. The buttons below the results list let you zoom to all results, flash all results, zoom to the full extent of the map, clear the graphics on the map or clear the results lists. Page 5 of 10
STREET SEARCH The street search widget enables a user to search the streets feature class by name and/or address. Note that for search by address means that the address input falls within the upper and lower address range for the street segment. Partial inputs are fine. Results are listed on the widget and for each result the user can pan to the result, zoom to the result, view the attributes for the result, and create a report for the result. The buttons below the results list let you zoom to all results, flash all results, zoom to the full extent of the map, clear the graphics on the map or clear the results lists. TABLE OF CONTENTS The table of contents allows a user to turn on or off operational layers in the map. Some layers are scale dependent and can only be turned on at certain scales. This window can be expanded by grabbing lower right corner and pulling down and to the right like any Windows application. In addition a user can access Metadata about a layer by simply rightclicking on the layer name. This will open a new window with metadata information. Not all layers have associated metadata. If that is the case, a window will pop up saying There is no metadata for this item. Page 6 of 10
PRINT (SYSTEM PRINT DIALOG BOX) This widget sends the screen image, including any graphics, to the current printer. A map title, notes, and the county s URL are also included on this map. The map printed using this widget will use just over 1/2 of a letter-size page If the user has a print-to-pdf functionality set up, the user can also print to PDF this way. OUTPUTS MAP IMAGE This widget prints the current view of the map, including graphics and user drawn text, with a title, notes, the County s URL, and a logo. The resulting map is output as an image file of everything on the map in PNG format. The PNG file can then be printed by opening the file directly or by inserting it into a word processing file and printing it. Page 7 of 10
PRINT TO PDF USING TEMPLATES User must specify the layout for the map. The main use for printing with templates is for very consistent looking maps. This widget prints the current map using a template set up in a server-based ArcMap document. The user can input just a title and notes; logos and the legend are part of the map document. Things to note on this widget: User drawn graphics and text will not display the way they look on the screen. If a user would like to include user drawn graphics and/or text, the "Outputs map image" widget is the better printing option. If the map on the screen shows an aerial photo or USGS topo image, the user must choose the corresponding layout from the Layout drop-down menu. Page 8 of 10
