TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE 1. Printer Issues There is no longer a warning beep or red light when paper is running low/out There is no longer an alert screen that tells you the ticket printer is not responding Some rolls of printer paper have red streaks when paper is running low So If the printer does not print, check to see if both sides of the printer lid are snapped into place Once the lid is completely closed, the printer will print whatever is in the queue CHANGING THE PRINTER PAPER OR FIXING JAM: Release the printer lid by moving the LATCH located on the top, left side of the machine toward you and the LID will automatically open Remove the roll from the PAPER WELL Adjust paper if jammed or insert new roll of paper with the paper coming out from underneath the roll (NOT over the top) You can process approximately 350 voters per roll of paper Close the lid with EXCESS PAPER visible. It may take some effort to snap both sides of the lid shut NOTE: If the printer jammed or failed to print a pass, it may finish printing once the paper has been adjusted or refilled. 2. Signature Pad Failure The screen Signature Pad Problem may appear on the EViD Follow the instructions, call for assistance when necessary If you touch Cancel, the voter s pass may print without a signature have the voter sign the pass before they are sent to get a ballot then you must reset the sig pad or all passes will print without a signature 3. Signature Pad Issues A warning screen may appear on top of the signature box if you try to accept a signature before a voter signs the sigpad (or if the sig pad does not detect a signature) The warning asks Do you wish to accept this blank signature? Touch No and have voter sign the sigpad again If you touch Yes the pass will print with no signature and the voter will have to manually sign the pass with an ink pen 4. Missing Sig Line on Sigpad If the X and dotted line are not visible on the sigpad, touch Reset Sigpad on the Home Screen The screen will state One moment while signature pad resets The X and dotted line should re-appear If you continue to have problems with the sigpad, contact the Election Day Command Center 2
5. Mag Stripe Reader Issues An alert screen appears on the EViD, touch OK and swipe ID again Operator may be swiping the ID too fast or too slow Do a manual search if you keep getting the error message 6. No voters found message An alert screen may appear if the mag stripe reader was unable to read the data on the voter s ID in the magnetic stripe This could also happen during a manual search Touch OK and try swiping again or manually looking up by name instead of birth date or vice versa birth date on ID may differ from voter record, verify date of birth with voter Call Election Day Command Center for assistance in locating voters when necessary 7. Birth Date Issues An alert screen appears when the EViD attempts to place information from the magnetic stripe into the date of birth field, or the operator types an invalid date of birth in the field Touch OK and begin the search again If typing a two digit birth year, try typing all 4 digits of the birth year 3
8. Driver License Issues An alert screen may appear when the mag stripe reader misreads or is unable to read the license or ID swiped Touch Yes and do a manual search This DOES NOT mean the driver license is invalid DO NOT issue a provisional ballot from this screen 9. Call Office If the elections office has flagged a voter s record you will see an alert message stating Please call the office for instructions before proceeding. Do you want to continue? Always touch NO If you touch yes, the signature box will appear. Touch Cancel to return to the Home Screen and call the command center/elections office 10. Voter s and Assistance If a voter is on file as needing assistance the EViD will state Eligible for assistance in voting in a yellow box above the voter s name on the Name and Residence Address screen Get the voter s voting pass then deal with the assistance See your manual for instructions on dealing with voters eligible for assistance After verifying the signature, the system will remind you the voter is eligible for assistance, touch OK to return to the Home Screen 11. Misc. Error Messages If you receive any other error messages, call the Election Day Command Center for directions 4
EViD FEATURES MESSAGES The envelope will open and a letter will appear if you have a message waiting. Touch the message box to view any messages sent by the Election Day Command Center. The EViD cannot send a message to the Election Day Command Center or the SOE office but be sure to call if you have any concerns. Touch Close to exit the mail message screen and return to the main screen of the EViD. The next time you enter the mail screen, previously read messages will be highlighted in green. A scroll bar is available to the right once the screen fills up with messages NEW FEATURE The command center will be able to tell when, and if, you read the mail messages! PREVIOUS VOTER -This button is used to access the Review Voter Information screen for the last voter processed. The name of the last voter processed appears in a box below Previous Voter. Touch the box and the Review Voter Information screen appears NOTE: After your first voter, there will always be a voter s name in the Previous Voter field. The name will change each time you process a voter. 5
REVIEW VOTER INFORMATION This screen is used to Reprint a voting pass or to re-set the LAST processed voter s status with Undo Check-in You can only Reprint a voting pass o Refer to Clerk and Action Required tickets do not reprint DO NOT Undo Check-in without permission from the Election Day Command Center. The Back button will return you to the Home Screen of the EViD VERIFY VOTER INFORMATION This screen displays the voter s information when getting ready to make a Name/Address Change. The screen may also show where to find the voter in the precinct register (white box located in bottom, center of screen when available) If you accidentally touch inside the white box, a larger box appears on the screen. o Touch anywhere in the box to return to the Verify Voter Information screen (same thing happens on the Voter History screen see screen shots under Voter Info on next page) The EViDs will list additional information in the white box for voters who have already voted or been mailed a ballot 6
VOTER INFO This screen allows the operator to look up individual voters so poll watchers can view a voter s voting status Touch Voter Info The Manual Search screen appears with a green border Manually search for the voter o Select Voter from list of voters when necessary The Voter History screen appears with a green border The voter s status is listed in the white box, bottom center of screen Touch Close or Cancel to exit Voter History screen and return to the Home Screen of the EViD o Close is available on a voter that lives in the assigned polling place but that has not been processed on the EViD o Cancel is available on a voter that is in a different precinct or a voter that has been processed on your EViD Sometimes a Reprint feature is available on this screen DO NOT use this feature! 7
EViD KEYBOARD FEATURES 1. F12 KEY This key will change the keyboard to ABC order and back again 2. % = WILD CARD SYMBOL - Use this key as a wildcard to search for voters, i.e. Bla% or Jac%. This will return all variations of the last name beginning with Bla or Jac (like Black or Jackson). The wildcard can be used at the beginning of the name as well like %And% when you need to search for hyphenated names 3. TAB KEY- Use this key to move from field to field across the screen 4. - Use the back arrow key to delete one space at a time 5. SPACE BAR- The EViD logo at the bottom of the keyboard is the space bar 1 2 4 3 5 8
COMPACT EViDs New EViD case has an EViD logo on both the lid and base. When assembling the EViD case after packing the EViDs, be sure to line up these labels The left side of the new case has a precinct ( Pct ) label on the lid that lists what machines are inside the case *Note: The label on the base is for office use ONLY The EViDs will be sealed with a seal on each side of the EViD case above the handles There are four (4) latches (two on front and two on back) connecting the lid to the base 9
COMPACT EViDs There are two (2) EViDs per case. Each EViD will have a label detailing their precinct number, unit number and location Colored dots are used during closing procedures for proper return of EViD accessories Verizon air card preinstalled on #1 Help Desk EViD A power cord and power brick for each EViD are located in separate pockets in the foam. Power cords are located by the blue dots and power bricks are located by red dots. Power bricks also have an attached cord The new sigpad with its attached pen and cord is located in the foam pockets designated with green dots 10
COMPACT EViDs The New Compact EViDs have a self-contained mag stripe reader Power light indicator for EViD The round power button is located on the right side of the EViD below the PCT label 11
COMPACT EViDs Hold onto the EViD and use the adjuster lever to raise and lower the pedestal which is attached to the bottom of the EViD The adjuster lever is found on the left side of EViD. Pull lever straight out and then raise or lower screen at same time to adjust the height of the EViD screen Release the lever BEFORE releasing the EViD 12
