5GPPP Project Collaboration and Way Forward Flex5Gware 5G Focus Day 21 st June 2017, Turin Pavlos Fournogerakis European Commission DG CONNECT E1 Future Connectivity Systems
5G in the Digital Single Market (DSM) The 5G Action plan - Commission Communication: to support European industrial leadership; - Part of the September 2016 "Connectivity Package" - Preparing Framework Conditions at EU level for 5G deployment - Demand Side The 5G Public Private Partnership (5G PPP) - 700 M initiative under R&I H2020 programme - Technologies, systems, applications, - Programmatic approach - spectrum, standards, International cooperation - Supply Side
Collaboration in H2020 context Complementary grants (Art 41.4 MGA) are different EU grants linked by the work programme/calls by identifying them as complementary actions. A collaboration agreement has to be concluded - purely internal, private agreement - between consortium and beneficiaries of a complementary grant; - to coordinate the work - under the different GAs - to ensure a smooth and successful project implementation; - to set out the rights and obligations among themselves.
Collaboration matters! The projects are the engine of the 5GPPP: Support implementation of EU Vision Populating the 5G association's working groups and collaboration structures Providing substantial inputs (ex: standardisation, spectrum, KPIs) Integration to and contribution towards international developments and deployment Collaboration agreement between projects Joint definition of issues of common interests Sharing of results Ongoing for Phase 2 Projects More than just projects it's a PROGRAMME!

The proposed support actions shall liaise with the 5G RIA and IA actions to exploit synergies in the implementation of the activities
5G PPP Phase 2 objectives Leverage work and results of Phase 1 (WP 2014-15) Accelerate on proof of concepts and demonstrators Where technological maturity permits, validate research results through use case from relevant vertical sectors (e.g. connected cars, ehealth etc.) Scalability and usability of mixed network technological approaches towards validation of deployment at scale (ICT-08-2017)

Portfolio Assessment Vertical presence is very strong (automotive, healthcare, energy, media..) Phase I "holes" have been addressed (satellite, optical) Strong move towards software networks and cloudified networks both at RAN and Core level; Strong industry drive and SME presence now above the 20% target Very strong commitment towards programme integration and implementation of collaboration agreement and Phase 3 preparation 64% of Phase 2 beneficiaries are new with respect to Phase 1 Clear opportunities towards new actors

European Trials Roadmap Trials roadmap announced in the 5G Action Plan To help technology and business model validation To prepare for early deployments Top foster partnership with verticals and creation of ecosystem Roadmap strategy announced in MWC in Barcelona Support by key players of 5G in Europe Attraction towards verticals and cities 5G Pan-European Trials Roadmap version 1 announced at 3rd 5G Global Event, Tokyo Part of this implementation is supported by the EC through the 5GAP, 5G PPP Phase 3. Very important to implement the roadmap in time
What's Next? Short term: mid Term Review of cppp's and H2020 Very important exercise Impact, Impact, Impact. Key to demonstrate Will be used as input towards next MFF (including FP9) Longer Term: Next Multi Annual Financial Framework, MFF The budgetary period will include FP9 aspects Reflection already started in MS and in EC EC intention is to make a proposal by mid-2018 Important that you are engaged in the discussion with your national administrations Options very open at this stage, but good ideas welcome!
