Upgrading the Uniprint Suite Upgrading the Uniprint Suite The Uniprint Suite can be upgraded using the installer on the Pharos disk image. When the installer detects the presence of older Pharos components, it switches into upgrade mode. When upgrading your environment, you must upgrade the system as a whole (i.e. you cannot just upgrade one print server). All Pharos server and administration components (including the Pharos Administrator, Pharos Remote, Pharos Reports, and Pharos Station) must be upgraded at the same time and to the exact same version. In addition, any computers with the SignUp client must be upgraded when the servers are upgraded. As a general rule, Pharos Systems attempts to keep the servers backward compatible with older versions of the Popup and Notify Clients. This means that you can upgrade the server, but not require the users to upgrade their workstations immediately. However, Pharos recommends that you upgrade all workstations to the latest Popup and Notify Client as soon as possible. The upgrade should be completed in the following order: 1. Upgrade the Pharos Database and Pharos Principal Services 2. Upgrade each server running Pharos server components, including Print Services, SignUp Services, EDI Service and Web Services 3. Upgrade all computers running the Pharos PC Station 4. Upgrade all computers running the Pharos SignUp Client 5. Upgrade all computers running the Popup and Notify Clients Supported Upgrade Paths Uniprint 9.0 can upgrade older versions of Uniprint 6.0 and greater provided they are installed on versions of an operating system and SQL Server supported by Uniprint 9.0. For more information on supported operating systems and SQL Server versions, refer to the Uniprint 9.0 Planning and Installation guide. Depending on your current Uniprint version, it may be necessary to perform some additional steps before or after the upgrade. If you are upgrading from Uniprint 6.0, you must uninstall the Pharos EDI Service first before upgrading and then reinstall the Pharos EDI Service following the upgrade. If you are upgrading from Uniprint 6.1 up to 7.0 and you have installed the Pharos EDI Service, it is recommended that you have the latest EDI hot-fix installed before upgrading. If the latest EDI hot-fix is not applied, the EDI Server may fail to upgrade. The upgrader will show the following error message "Unable to get the configuration of the idsvc service. Error: Access 5

Upgrading the Uniprint Suite is denied." To work around this issue, temporarily rename the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\idsvc, reboot the machine and rerun the upgrader. When the upgrade has completed, change the registry key back to its original name. Before You Begin The following points should be taken into consideration before upgrading. (These points are displayed as a reminder at the start of an upgrade). If a server contains Principal Server components (Pharos Database, Database Server, License Server) and other Pharos components (e.g. Print Server, SignUp Server), the first time the upgraders run, they will upgrade only these Principal Server components. Once completed, run the upgrader a second time to upgrade the other components. The computer must be rebooted each time the upgrader finishes. Check the Pharos Systems website (www.pharos.com) for any hot fixes or service packs related to the version of Uniprint to which you are upgrading - these will need to be applied following the upgrade. Review the Readme.htm document on the Pharos disk image for other useful information related to upgrading from older versions of Uniprint. 6

Upgrading Server Components Upgrading Server Components The Pharos installer automatically detects whether existing Pharos components are installed and switches to upgrade mode for those components. The upgrade process is covered in this section. Upgrading Server components should be completed in the following order: 1. Upgrade the Pharos Database and Principal Services 2. Upgrade other Pharos Components, for example, Print Services, SignUp Services, EDI Service and Web Services Before You Begin Before you begin the upgrade, you must complete the following tasks: Read the Uniprint 9.0 Planning and Installation Guide to ensure that your current installation meets the requirements for the version you are upgrading to. These planning steps are just as critical for the upgrade as for a new installation. Read the Readme.htm document on the Pharos disk image. There may be additional release notes or known issues related to your upgrade. WARNING! If the upgrade fails for any reason, do not attempt to uninstall the failed component. Please contact Pharos Support before taking any further steps. Back up the Pharos Database. It is important to back up your Pharos Database and ensure that the backup is usable. If the upgrade fails, you may need to restore the Pharos Database from this backup. If upgrading from versions earlier than 8.3: o Read the Uniprint Pre-Upgrade Guide document in the Documentation folder of the Pharos install media. This document covers major changes to Uniprint and their potential impacts to your existing installation. o Run the Print Migration Tool. This tool is used to review the configuration of existing devices. It checks whether a device will be successfully migrated to Uniprint 9.0. For more information, refer to the Uniprint Pre-Upgrade Guide document in the Documentation folder of the Pharos install media. To install the new Pharos Print Center, you need to re-run the installer after upgrade. Upgrading to Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 If upgrading to Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 and Uniprint 9.0 from versions prior to 8.3, we strongly recommend upgrading in the following order: Note: On a Windows 2012 upgrade, SQL Server services on the upgraded machine may be disabled, and may need to be reactivated manually. Ensure your version of SQL Server is supported on Windows Server 2012. 7

Upgrading Server Components 1. Run the Uniprint Pre-Migration Tool. The Uniprint Pre-Upgrade Guide includes the step-bystep instructions to run the tool. You can find this document in the Documentation folder of the Pharos install media. 2. Upgrade your server to Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2. 3. Upgrade to Uniprint 9.0. Starting the Upgrade To begin an upgrade, select Install Pharos from the main splash screen remember that when the installer detects the presence of out-of-date Uniprint components, it will automatically switch to the upgrader. The upgrader uses a subset of the main installer screens to gather new configuration settings and confirm existing ones before upgrading. Upgrade Beginning with Uniprint 8.3, significant changes were made to the print engine. If upgrading from versions prior to Uniprint 8.3, changes made to the print engine and other changes may significantly impact your existing print set up. This screen lists how the print engine changes can impact your existing Uniprint configuration. After reading the list of major changes, check the I have read the information above. I understood the impacts box and then click Next to continue. For detailed information about each item in this screen, refer to the Uniprint Pre-Upgrade Guide document in the Documentation folder of the Pharos install image. Note: This screen is shown only when upgrading from versions earlier than 8.3. 8

Upgrading Server Components Upgrade Instructions This screen shows a message that you must run the upgrader twice on a Principal Server machine that also contains other Pharos Server components. If this is not done, your system may not work properly. Click Next to continue. List of Components to Upgrade This screen shows the list of components to upgrade. Click Next to continue. Pharos License Details Click Browse to locate a new license file or select the option to use the existing license information. Click Next to continue. 9

Upgrading Server Components Pharos License Details The Uniprint End-User License is displayed. You must accept the terms of the license and click Next to continue. Pharos Database Configuration It is important to back up your Pharos Database and ensure that the backup is usable. If the upgrade fails, you may need to restore the Pharos Database from this backup. Check the I have backed up the Database option and click Next to continue. Pharos Database Configuration Select the SQL Server where the Pharos Database is installed If the SQL Server is running on your local machine, the drop-down list shows the name of the local SQL Server instance(s). If the SQL Server is on a remote machine, enter the instance name of the remote SQL Server. Click Next to continue. 10

Upgrading Server Components Pharos Database Configuration Enter the SQL Server administrator user name and password and then click Next to continue. Note: Consult your SQL Server administrator for the appropriate logon details to use. Pharos Plug-ins The modification of the Uniprint print engine has resulted in changes to the existing plug-ins/scripts. This screen appears only when the upgrader detects that the machine being upgraded is using a MoveJob plug-in. This will prevent you from continuing with the upgrade. As of 8.3, the MoveJob plug-in has changed. In earlier versions, jobs were moved between Queues. In this version, jobs are now moved between Print Groups. If you have associated this plug-in to one or more Uniprint Print Servers on the version in which you are upgrading from, you must first remove the association before upgrading. To exit the installer, click the OK button. For more information, refer to the readme file. 11

Upgrading Server Components Pharos Scripts This screen appears only when the upgrader detects plug-ins/scripts that use commands which have some uncommon parameters that are no longer supported as of Uniprint 8.3. Read the Readme file for details of the change and how it may affect your current Uniprint installation. Click OK to continue. Pharos Scripts This screen appears only when the upgrader detects that the current system uses plug-ins with the following script functions: MessageBox QuestionBox BalloonBox If you are integrating Uniprint with Pharos MobilePrint, you may need to modify any Notify scripts which use the QuestionBox function. The new PlugIn.JobType parameter should be used to determine whether a job is Native or MobilePrint and limit the use of QuestionBoxes to 'native jobs' and to bypass them for MobilePrint jobs. For more information, refer to the Pharos Scripts Knowledge Base article http://www.pharos.com/support/kbasef wd.asp?id=1771 before continuing with this upgrade. Click OK to continue. 12

Upgrading Server Components Pharos Database Upgrade Compatible Queues This screen appears only when the upgrader detects that the current system has Compatible Queues using different Job Cost Methods. Configuration of Queues has significantly changed from Uniprint 8.3. After an upgrade to 9.0, Print Groups will be created based on the Queue names, and the Job Cost Methods associated to the Queue will be moved to the Print Groups. Check that the appropriate Job Cost Method is used for each Print Group after an upgrade. Click OK to continue. Pharos Database Upgrade Permissions This screen appears only when the upgrader detects that the existing permissions have role(s) whose access to the Job Management context in Pharos Administrator/Pharos Remote is restricted by Server, not by device. This situation is characterized by having context-level permission on the Devices and object-level permission on Servers. Because Devices and Servers relationship has been removed beginning from Uniprint 8.3, some roles who used to be able to administer print jobs in earlier versions may no longer be able to do so after upgrade. Therefore, after upgrade, you should go to the Permissions context in Pharos Administrator to modify the role permissions accordingly. Please contact Pharos Support before making any changes to Permissions. Click OK to continue. 13

Upgrading Server Components Start Upgrade This screen is displayed once the upgraders have gathered all of the information they need. A summary of the components being installed is displayed (depending on which components were upgraded). Click Start to begin the upgrade. Finished Upgrade This screen is displayed once the upgrade is complete. Click Finish to exit the installer. Depending on which components were upgraded, the computer may need to be restarted to complete the upgrade. If this is the case, a small dialog asking if you want to restart the computer is displayed. Click Yes to restart immediately or No to return to Windows and restart at a later point. Note: If a reboot is requested, Pharos may not operate as expected until the reboot is performed. 14

Upgrading Server Components Pharos Print Services, Print Center, EDI Services, List of Components to upgrade The screen is displayed when upgrading Pharos components other than Database or Principal Services. Click Next to continue. Select Components Uniprint 9.0 introduces the new Pharos Print Center, which is a web portal that allows users to release their print jobs and manage several aspects of their accounts. This screen allows you to install the Print Center components - Print Center Services (Pharos API) and the Print Center Web. Select which component you want to install on this machine. These components can be installed together or separately. For more information about Pharos Print Center, please refer to the Pharos Print Center Guide. 15

Upgrading Server Components Select Components Both the Pharos Print Center Services and the Print Center Web require.net Framework 4.5. This screen is displayed if you do not have.net Framework 4.5 installed on the machine where you are attempting to install Print Center Services and/or Print Center Web. Select Components The installer adds firewall exceptions for all the Pharos-specific services during install, but does not add firewall exceptions for ports 80 and 443. These ports need to be open for the Pharos Print Center. This screen shows a warning that an exception has to be added to the Firewall on this machine for Secure World Wide Services (HTTPS). Database Server TCP/IP Host Name and Address Enter the network name of the computer that hosts the Pharos Database Server (not the Pharos Database) and the port number for the service. Click Next. 16

Upgrading Server Components Pharos EDI Server Password All external clients that communicate with the EDI Server authenticate themselves by supplying the password you create here. Enter the password and click Next to continue. The EDI Server Password can be viewed later in Pharos Administrator on the System Settings > Security context. Application Data Directory This screen appears only when upgrading Print Services. Enter the Application Data Directory path. It is the location where print jobs will be temporarily stored. You can either accept the default location or click Browse to specify a different folder. The default location is the Application Data folder (e.g. C:\ProgramData on Windows Server 2008). Click Next to continue. Start Upgrade This screen is displayed once the installers have gathered all of the information they need. A summary of the components being installed is displayed (depending on which components were upgraded). Click Start to begin the installation. 17

Upgrading Server Components Pharos Certificate Warning This screen shows a note that both the Pharos API Services and the Print Center Web components require Server Certificates in IIS. If the machine on which you are installing both components does not have a certificate installed, the installer will add a selfsigned certificate. Please review the Default Web Site in IIS to ensure that a current certificate has been added for the https binding. Upgrade Finished. This screen is displayed once the upgrade is complete. Click Finish to exit the installer. 18

Upgrading Server Components on a Cluster Upgrading Server Components on a Cluster Pharos Uniprint provides a path to upgrade cluster installations to Uniprint 9.0 from the following versions: 8.0 8.1 8.2 8.3 8.4 The typical procedure for upgrading clustered Uniprint to 9.0 is as follows: 1. Prepare the Pharos Clustered services for upgrade 2. Upgrade Principal Services 3. Upgrade Print Services 4. Upgrade Uniprint Website 1. Prepare the Pharos Clustered Services for Upgrade 1.1. Take the Pharos Services Offline The Clustered Pharos Services must be taken offline (which sets the services to stop) before running the upgrader. If not done, when the upgrader attempts to stop the Pharos services during upgrade, the Cluster will force a failover to the other node. A failover during the upgrade will cause the Database upgrade to fail. a. Open the Failover Cluster Management. b. Select each Pharos service and select take this service or application offline for each one. 1.2. Delete all Pharos Clustered Services The Cluster Configuration tool will re-configure Pharos services for new settings, so all existing Pharos cluster services must be removed before upgrading. a. Open Failover Cluster Management. b. Select each Pharos service and select 'Delete' for each one. 19

Upgrading Server Components on a Cluster 1.3. Make sure the Virtual Network Name is recorded in the registry The Uniprint installer keeps the virtual network name in the registry. The Upgrader can use this information so that you do not have to manually modify the database for server records. a. Run the registry editor. b. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Pharos on 32-bit machines or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Pharos on 64-bit machines. c. Check that there is a string entry called MachineName, which corresponds to the virtual server network name. If this entry is missing, manually add this registry on both nodes. 2. Upgrade the Principal Services 2.1 Upgrade the Pharos Principal Services on Node 1 The upgrade is a two-stage process in which the Principal Services are upgraded first, followed by other functional components like Print Services and SignUp Service. The upgrader will upgrade the Pharos Database and the Pharos service files on the first Node. With Node 1 as the active Node: a. Run the installer from the Pharos disk image. b. Select Install Pharos. The installer will detect that an older version of Uniprint is installed. c. Proceed through the upgrade wizard. Reboot is not required. Note: The upgrade of the Principal Services will upgrade the Pharos Database regardless of whether the Database is installed on the same machine as the Principal Services or on a separate SQL Server. 20

Upgrading Server Components on a Cluster 2.2 Update the 'Installed Components' Database registry entry on Node 2 The clustered database was upgraded during the upgrade on Node 1, so the database does not need to be upgraded again. The registry on Node 2 needs updating so the upgrader does not repeat the Database upgrade. With Node 2 as the active Node: a. Open Regedit and then browse to HKLM\Software\Pharos\Installed Components. b. Select the Pharos Database entry and set this to the version number of the Pharos Uniprint that you are upgrading to (e.g. 7987). Note: Ensure that the Database entry, and not the Database Service entry, is edited. 2.3 Upgrade the Pharos Principal Services on Node 2 With Node 2 as the active Node: a. Run the Uniprint installer on Node 2. b. Select Install Pharos to upgrade the Principal Services components on the second Node. c. Proceed through the upgrade wizard. Reboot is not required. Note: In Node 2, when the upgrader detects that the database is up-to-date; it will skip the database update. However, manually mark it as upgraded so you do not need to enter information related to the database upgrade. 2.4 Re-cluster Pharos Principal Services On any node, run the cluster configuration tool (ClusterConfiguration.exe). This tool is available from the Pharos disk image in the location tools\utils\cluster. a. Run ClusterConfiguration.exe. b. Make sure Configure Pharos Principal Services option is checked. c. Click Start Tasks. If the configuration tool successfully brings online the resource group, it means the Principal services are running and it is ready to perform the second-stage upgrade. 21

Upgrading Server Components on a Cluster 3. Upgrade the Print Services 3.1. Upgrade the Print Services on Node 1 Ensure that the clustered Pharos Database Service and the License Service are online because the upgrader connects to the Pharos Database Service during upgrade. With Node 1 as the active node: a. Make sure the current node owns the Shared Disk resource. b. Run the Uniprint installer to upgrade the Print Services. c. When upgrading the Print Service, you will be asked to enter an Application Data Directory path. Enter a path under the shared disk, e.g. S:\AppData\PharosSystems. This path will become the shared storage for print jobs. d. When prompted to restart the machine, click cancel - you can defer the restart until you have re-clustered the services. A report file called PrintMigrationResult.txt is generated after the upgrade of the 1 st node. This report shows a list of all the devices (both migrated and non- migrated devices). 3.2. Upgrade the Print Services on Node 2 With Node 2 as the active node: a. Make sure the current node owns the shared Disk. Move the group if required. b. Run the Uniprint installer to upgrade the services on Node 2 (repeat of the Node 1 process). c. In the Application Data Directory field, enter the same path as in the Node 1 upgrade. d. Defer the reboot at the end. Note that when checking the PrintMigrationResult.txt in the second node, you might see that some printers in the virtual server are not migrated. This is normal if they are already migrated in the first node. 3.3. Re-cluster Print Services In any node, open the Cluster Configuration Tool. a. Run ClusterConfiguration.exe b. Make sure the Configure Pharos Print Server and SignUp Server options are selected. c. Click Start Tasks button. d. When finished, reboot both nodes. 22

Upgrading Server Components on a Cluster 3.4. Verify the upgrade by Pharos Administrator and Failover Cluster Manager Run the Pharos Administrator and navigate to System > Server Configuration context; you should see the virtual server entries but not the network names of the physical nodes in the cluster. Run the Cluster Administrator to verify that all Pharos Services are online. If needed, test failover by moving the group. 4. Upgrade the Uniprint Website The Uniprint website will host built packages for downloading so the underlying physical path needs to reside on a shared disk. The installation should have created a folder in a shared drive but the upgrader will only update the local copy. This means that the Uniprint website must be updated manually. To manually update the Uniprint website: 1. In the active node, Xcopy C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Uniprint folder to the shared disk S:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Uniprint. 2. Check the Package Location and Shared Directory: a. Open the Pharos Administrator and then browse to the Packages >Package Definitions context. b. In the Package Definitions Action pane select Package Global Settings. c. Change the Package Build Location to: S:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Uniprint d. Change the Shared Directory to S:\Pharos\Bin\Shared. (Create this directory if one does not exist). 3. Make sure the physical path is pointing to the shared drive: a. Run the IIS manager by running inetmgr.exe b. Browse to the Uniprint virtual Directory, right click and then select Properties. c. In the Virtual Directory tab, make sure the local path points to S:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Uniprint. 23

Upgrading Client Components Upgrading Client Components Upgrading Uniprint client components is easily accomplished by using package installers. Before You Begin Read the Uniprint 9.0 Planning and Installation Guide to ensure that the computers you are upgrading meet the necessary operating system and pre-requisites of the version to which you are upgrading. Read the Readme.htm document. There may be additional release notes or known issues related to this new version of Uniprint. General Upgrade Instructions Standalone client package installers are available for Pharos Remote, Pharos Station, and the Pharos SignUp Client. You can obtain client installer packages in two ways: By navigating to the Packages context in the Pharos Administrator. This context contains a description of the install package and where to find it. Simply click on the Package Location path to open a Windows Explorer window to that location. By browsing to the location Program Files\Pharos\Client Installers for 32 bit systems or Program Files (x86)\pharos\client Installers for 64 bit systems directory of all Pharos Administrator computers. Specific Upgrade Instructions The upgrade for some components may have some additional steps. These components are covered below. Upgrading Pharos Remote from Uniprint 8.0 to Uniprint 9.0 When upgrading a Uniprint 8.0 installation to Uniprint 9.0, the upgrader automatically removes the Web Remote components. As the Web Remote will no longer be available, you must run the Pharos Remote Installer Package on each computer on which you want to access Pharos Remote. To upgrade Pharos Remote: 1. Download the Pharos Remote Installer Package from the Packages > Pharos Remote Installer context of the Pharos Administrator. This package is also available in the Program Files\Pharos\Client Installers directory of all Pharos Administrator computers. 2. Run the installer package and follow the onscreen instructions to install the new Pharos Remote application. For more information on how to logon and use Pharos Remote, refer to the Online Help. 24

Upgrading Client Components Upgrading SignUp Client If you have upgraded your SignUp Server to a newer Uniprint version, it is required that you upgrade SignUp Clients to the same version. To upgrade Pharos SignUp Client: 1. Download the SignUp client installer package from Packages > Pharos Signup Installer context of the Pharos Administrator. This package is also available in the Program Files\Pharos\Client Installers directory of all Pharos Administrator PCs. 2. Run the installer package on the PCs that you want to upgrade and follow the onscreen instructions. Upgrading Popup Clients To upgrade existing Popup clients to Uniprint 9.0, simply create an install package from the Packages > Package Definitions context of the Pharos Administrator and run this package on the computers you want to upgrade. In addition, computers that have been installed with the package updater component will automatically download the new version from the server and apply it to the workstation. For more information on how to create and deploy Install Packages, refer to the Installing Popup Clients section of the Uniprint Planning and Installation Guide. Notes: For Uniprint 7.2 and 8.0, the Install Packages were supported on Windows 7. However, the Uniprint 7.2 package updater component will not function on Windows 7. Users will need to manually apply the new version of Uniprint to their computer. 25

Migrating the Pharos Database Migrating the Pharos Database If the Pharos Principal Server needs to be migrated to new hardware, it is common to do this during an upgrade of the Pharos software. Pharos supplies two small command line utilities that help migrate the Pharos Database to a new server. These tools are: Note: Both the old and the new server must be running SQL Server 2005 and later the utilities do not support upgrading from MSDE. DatabaseMigrationTool.exe - this tool copies the Pharos Database from its current server to the new one and upgrades it to the new version of Uniprint if necessary. NameSyncTool.exe - this tool configures the Pharos Database and registry with the details of the new server, and optionally propagates these changes to the other Pharos services. When the database migration tool completes, it automatically runs the name synchronization tool. The name synchronization tool can also be run by itself if the server's name is changed after the upgrade. These utilities can be found in the Pharos Knowledge Base (https://pharos.custhelp.com/) or requested from Pharos Systems Support. The files come with an instruction file that explains the various command line options for each tool. The recommended Pharos Database migration procedure is as follows: 1. Install the latest version of the Pharos Database and the Principal Server on the new server. You must install Uniprint 9.0 on the new server. Note: Do not install any other components at this stage. Install only the Database and Principal Services before running the migration tool. 2. Copy the migration tools to the new server. 3. Run DatabaseMigrationTool.exe on the new server. You must supply the necessary information to allow it to connect to the SQL Server on the old Uniprint server. 4. The tool will move the database to the new server and then upgrade it. 5. Test the new server to verify the installation. 6. When testing is complete, take the old server offline and bring the new server online. 26
