Chapter 1: New Features This document provides a brief overview of the new features and enhancements of CA InterTest Batch. It helps you identify what has changed before you begin taking advantage of the powerful new functionality of the product. This chapter summarizes the new features that have been introduced for CA InterTest Batch Release 8.5.00. Common User Interface CA InterTest is an update release for CA InterTest Batch and CA InterTest for CICS. The principal enhancement in the release is a new Graphic User Interface (GUI) for the two InterTest products. CA SymDump for CICS has been added to this project to resolve a compatibility problem between the older version of AllFusion CA SymDump for CICS and the newer version of CA InterTest for CICS. In addition to resolving the compatibility problem, a new PROTDMP maintenance utility has been added for CA SymDump for CICS. The new GUI for the two InterTest products provides user access to all of the critical functions from either InterTest debugging product. Currently, users must learn different commands and different screen presentations for each product. There are three reasons for this interface: It eliminates the need for customers to learn two separate debuggers. It demonstrates to customers that CA is modernizing its testing tools. It resolves a variety of separate DARs related to usability and the product interface. Chapter 1: New Features 7

Architecture Architecture The following diagram shows the architecture of the new GUI: This diagram displays the basic client server design/message flow of the new CA InterTest Common User Interface (CUI). Working from the PC (workstation) you can debug applications using the CUI that are executing on the mainframe in batch or in CICS. The CUI exchanges messages with the mainframe, using TCP/IP, to direct the debug session. When a debug session is started the batch job or the CICS region, depending on the type of project being debugged, becomes the mainframe server used to communicate with the CUI. To debug using the CUI a CICS region is required to support IP sockets. A single file server, marked USS Server above, is shared by all users to convert JCL for batch debugging, submit batch debugging jobs and to download application program listings to the CUI to be used during the debug session. 8 Release Notes

Main Window Main Window When you first open the new CA InterTest GUI, you will see a window, similar to the following screen: This window is composed of several views that provide all the functions you need to debug your programs. A view is a visual component within the CA InterTest window. It is typically used to navigate a hierarchy of information or display properties for a program listing, which displays the program being debugged. Modifications made in a view are generally done with dialogs. Usually, only one instance of a particular type of view may exist within the CA InterTest window. Views might appear by themselves or stacked with other views in a tabbed notebook. To activate one of these views, click its tab. Only one view is active at one time. The active view is the one whose tab is highlighted. In this example, the program listing is active. Chapter 1: New Features 9

Views The exception to this is the Program Listing area, where several imported program listing files can be open at one time. The listings behave like sub-views that are grouped together (or stacked) in the Program Listing area. You can change the default window layout by opening views, closing views, or docking views in different positions. Views CA InterTest supports the following types of views: Auto Data Displays variables and their contents at a particular breakpoint. Bookmarks Displays all anchors (bookmarks) placed on a specific line of code. Breakpoints Displays all breakpoints (enabled and disabled) that are set in the vertical ruler of the Program Listing area. Call Trace Displays a list of the called subprograms in a load module based on the current breakpoint. This is a CICS only view. Console Displays read-only standard output messages from CA InterTest. Error Log Help Displays all warnings and errors generated by the common user interface. This is used by CA support and you can export this log when reporting an error. Displays the related help topics for the highlighted view. InterTest Debug Outline Displays the monitored and unmonitored programs. Displays an outline of the program that is currently open in the Program Listing area and lists the structural elements. Properties Displays a list of attributes, if any, related to another active view. Not all views have information to display in this view. 10 Release Notes

Program Listing Area Register Data Servers Keeps track of general register values during a debugging session for Assembler programs. Displays the servers that have been defined for CA InterTest to communicate with the mainframe. Session Data Keeps track of session-related information during a debugging session for CICS programs. Statement Trace Tasks Displays a trace of previously executed statements. Displays the tasks available for the currently active program. Watch Data Keeps track of variables and other program-related information during a debugging session. Program Listing Area The Program Listing area is a rectangular area on the CA InterTest main window and behaves slightly differently than the other views. You open a program listing to view compiler output and to use for a program being debugged. Any number of listings can be open at one time, but only one listing can be active at any given time. Tabs in the view area indicate the names of program listings that are currently open for viewing. By default, views are stacked in the view area, but you can tile them to view programs simultaneously, or any combination of stacked and tiled. You can also minimize and maximize the views to increase or reduce the amount of window space they occupy. Chapter 1: New Features 11

Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) If you have set one or more breakpoints for tracing the program, they are displayed as blue circles at the left margin of the individual program listing, as shown by the arrow in the following screen. Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) has been enabled for this product. You can now download product and maintenance releases over the Internet directly to your system from the CA Support website. When you order the product, you receive the authorizations and instructions to access, download, and prepare the installation files without the need for a physical tape. 12 Release Notes

Debugging on Foreign LPARs Debugging on Foreign LPARs You can now debug jobs that are executing on a different LPAR than the one you are currently logged on to. The Batch Link Selection panel displays the LPAR the job is executing on in the new SYSID column: ----------------- CA-InterTest Batch Batch Link Selection -------------------- COMMAND INPUT ===> SCROLL ===> PAGE * * * * * * * # Jobname Stepname Program Owner User Trans SYSID **************************** TOP OF DATA ********************************* 1 JOB01A STEP1 TESTPGM USER01 TSO01 2 JOB02A STEP1 CAMRCOBB USER02 TSO02 3 JOB03X RUN PAYROLL USER03 LINKED BY USER03 TSO01 ************************* BOTTOM OF DATA ********************************* If you select a job from a foreign LPAR for debugging, it is necessary to enter user credentials for that LPAR. The following prerequisites apply to debugging a job on a foreign LPAR: The LPAR must be located within the SYSPLEX. TCP/IP must be active and accessible across the SYSPLEX. A CA InterTest server must be running on the LPAR. The SYSPLEX option available in the CAMRSTBZ program must be enabled during configuration. The appropriate product maintenance must be installed which provides this support. Go to CA Support Online or contact CA Technical Support for the PTF number. Chapter 1: New Features 13

Improvements to the Scheduling Feature Improvements to the Scheduling Feature Sharing Schedules between LPARs in a SYSPLEX Scheduling is no longer limited to the LPAR you are currently logged on to. Instead, you can share schedules between LPARs. In detail, this means you can: Add an IMS / DB2 schedule on one LPAR which is then available on all LPARs. Change an IMS / DB2 schedule on one LPAR, the change propagates to all LPARs. Delete an IMS / DB2 schedule from one LPAR which is then deleted on all LPARs. Trigger an IMS /DB2 schedule and select it for debugging from any LPAR. Use the IMPORT and EXPORT functions for all scheduled items available on the LPARs within the SYSPLEX. To use this functionality, ensure that: TCP/IP is active and accessible across the SYSPLEX. A CA InterTest server is running on each LPAR that is sharing scheduling. You enabled the SYSPLEX option available in the CAMRSTBZ program during configuration. New Fields for IMS Scheduling The USER and TRANSACTION fields have been added to the IMS Schedule Maintenance table: --------------- CA InterTest IMS/DC Schedule Maintenance -------------- COMMAND ===> SCROLL ===> CUR COMMAND : A - ADD a new entry to Schedule. LINE COMMANDS: D - DELETE selected entry. C - CHANGE selected entry ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CMD REGION/JOBNAME PROGRAM TYPE ONE TIME USER TRANSACTION **************************** TOP OF DATA ********************************* BIMNTH01 ASSET* IMS YES IMSUSER1 IMSTRANS BIMNTH01 SALES* IMS YES USER2IMS IMSTRX02 WKLYPAY TIMEATTN IMS YES IMSU0003 IMST0003 WKLYPAY FCIA IMS YES MPPUSER4 MPPTRX04 WKLYPAY FEDW2 IMS YES USERIMS5 TESTTRAN WKLYPAY STATEW2 IMS YES USERMPP6 TRANSMPP *************************** BOTTOM OF DATA ******************************* 14 Release Notes

Improvements to the Scheduling Feature The USER field displays the user ID assigned to the transaction submitted in the MPP region. If this value is supplied, monitoring happens only if the specified user ID starts the transaction. The TRANSACTION field displays the IMS transaction name that is used for IMS/DC only. A trailing asterisk (*) denotes a generic name. Characters to the left of the asterisk are used for selection. For example ABC* matches any name whose first three characters start with ABC.
