Backing up files Prior to beginning software upgrade process it is recommended to copy all Rotor-Gene Experiment (.rex) files to a backup drive location separate from the Rotor-Gene lap top computer. Tip use windows search function to find all.rex files Uninstalling current software The current version of Assurance GDS Rotor-Gene software must be completely uninstalled prior to installing the new updated version. To uninstall the current version follow the procedure below: 1. Open Windows Control Panel 2. Select Programs and Features to display a list of installed programs 3. Select program named Rotor-Gene 6000 1.7.105.1 and double-click the program to initiate the uninstall process. 4. Once the program has been uninstalled open Windows Explorer or My Computer and navigate to the following locations C:/Program Files/Rotor-Gene 6000 Software. Delete the folder named Rotor-Gene 6000 software 5. Proceed to the appropriate installation procedure (Installation of Software Upgrade via Website or Installation of Software via Upgrade CD). Installing Upgrade NOTE: There are two ways to upgrade software: Via Website (see Installation of Software Upgrade via Website below) Via CD (see Installation of Software Upgrade via CD below) Please start at the appropriate step. Application Note Assurance GDS Rotor-Gene Q Software Upgrade Procedure Installation of Software Upgrade via Website 1. Go to www.biocontrolsys.com and click on Customer Login at the top right of the webpage. 2. Enter your customer identification number (CUID). 3. Click on Pathogens. 4. Check the box for Other & Software and select Search. 5. Click on Assurance GDS Rotor-Gene Q Software (Build x_x_xxx_x). [Note: x indicates the software version number.] 6. Click on Save to save files to the desktop of the GDS computer or to a USB drive. Be sure to log in as GDS Administrator. Page 1 of 8
7. Once download is complete click the red X to close the window. 8. From the desktop or USB Drive, right click on RG Q Build x_x_xxx_x.zip folder and choose Extract All from the submenu to unzip the file. 9. Follow the Extraction Wizard and click Next. Page 2 of 8
10. Select a desktop destination for the extracted files using the Browse button and click Next. 11. Click Finish. Page 3 of 8
12. Go to step 3 in Installation of Software Upgrade via CD. Installation of Software Upgrade via CD 1. Insert new GDS Rotor-Gene Software Disc into the CD drive. Be sure to log in as GDS Administrator. 2. Open Windows Explorer and select the CD drive. 3. Open the RG Q Build x_x_xxx_x folder. [Note: x indicates the software version number] 4. Initiate the software installation by double clicking the Rotor-Gene x_x_xxx_x biocontrol.exe file. 5. Follow Setup Rotor-Gene Q Wizard and click Next. Page 4 of 8
6. Review and accept the license agreement and click Next. 7. Select your region Page 5 of 8
8. Use the default Destination Location, click Next. 9. From the drop-down menu shown below, select the Force authentication option click Next. Page 6 of 8
10. The pop-up window below may appear, do not be alarmed select Continue Anyway. 11. Software will install, click Finish when prompted by the wizard. Page 7 of 8
Updating Registry Files 1. Certain software upgrades may require updating the computer s registry files as well. 2. If the update notice for the specific software Build indicates it is necessary to update the registry files, follow the procedure presented in the Assurance GDS Rotor-Gene Q Registry Files Update Procedure Application Note. Verifying Installation 1. While logged in as GDS Administrator, launch the Rotor-Gene Q software from the desktop shortcut. 2. Select File/Setup and verify that the check boxes for Virtual Mode and Allow access to this setup screen are both unchecked. 3. Conduct a demo run without samples to verify the installation prior to resuming routine testing. 4. When starting the demo run a High-Speed Rotor warning may appear. Check the Don t show this message in future box in the lower left corner and select Yes to continue. 5. Log off as GDS Administrator and resume routine testing.
