Chapter 1 General Information Drive Enclosure Installation Addonics Technologies 4
Power Connections: The enclosure can be powered externally by: 1. 110/220 AC/DC adapter (AAPAC5V) or 2. USB power cable (AAUSBPCP24) Power connector Power Switch: Switch Switch Modes: Power LED / Drive Activity LED EXT: INT: Place the switch on EXT position when the enclosure is powered externally and used as external hard drive enclosure. Place the switch on INT position when the enclosure takes power directly from the computer (the only connection you have is the USB2.0 or Firewire USIB interface cable). When the Pocket Exdrive is used with a drive cradle you also need to place the switch on INT position Note: Some Notebook may not provide adequate power through the PCMCIA slot or USB port to power the external hard drive. The 4-pin Firewire port, also commonly known as DV port or ilink port, does not provide power to external device. Addonics Technologies 5
Jumper Settings Inside the Pocket Exdrive Drive Case Factory Default jumper setting (this setting works with all interface cables and desktop drive cradle) Jumper setting to enable DMA in drive cradle (this setting does not work with any interface cable in external drive application) JP4 has one jumper to the right No jumpers on JP2 or JP3 Note: there may be spare jumpers in JP2 and JP3. These spare jumpers should be sitting on the outer pin only Both JP3 and JP4 have one jumper to the left. No jumper on JP2 The Addonics Driver Disk included with the product is for Windows 98 & 98SE drivers only. Addonics Technologies 6
Optional Hardware: (Allows 2.5 Exdrive to plug-in to a Desktop computer internally) 40 Pin IDE Connector Power connector USIB Connector Model: AAMD25BY Exdrive cradle with Serial ATA converter board attached. NOTE: You may use an available 3.5 floppy drive bay like the image shown above to install the Exdrive cradle. If none is available you can mount one to a 5.25 bay with mounting brackets to fit the bay. Serial ATA converter board can be attached to the IDE port of the Exdrive cradle. Once the SATA board is connected, make sure that both power to the board and the cradle are connected. Addonics Technologies 7
Chapter 2 USIB Interface Cables USB2.0 USIB Cable (Model: AAUSBC-309) Note: Pocket ExDrive is Plug and Play under Windows XP, 2000 and 98Me. There is no third-party driver needed. USB2.0 USIB Connector Since USB 2.0 Hi-Speed is an evolution of the existing USB 1.1 specification, it is fully forward and backward compatible with current USB systems. If you do not have an USB2.0 port, you may install an optional USB2.0 adapter or controller Downloading the USB2.0 USIB Cable Driver from the Addonics Driver Disk 1. Insert the Addonics Driver Disk in the CDROM drive. The Addonics Driver Disk window opens. 2. Select Drivers > Interface Cables Drivers > USB2.0 Cable (AAUSBC- 309) Win98/98SE Only. 3. The Winzip Self-Extractor AT2LP.exe window opens. Unzip file in My Documents. Driver Installation for Win98 and Win98SE 1. Make sure that the power cable and USB2.0 USIB cable are connected to the Pocket ExDrive. 2. Place the switch EXT position. To check if there is power, the LED should light up. 3. Insert the USB2.0 USIB cable to the USB port. A New Hardware Found message shall pop up. 4. Follow the ON Screen Wizard and point to the location where you unzip the driver file. 5. esata USIB Cable (Model: AASAC-605E) esata USIB Connector For Win98SE, Me, 2000 and XP Note: There are no drivers needed to use the esata USIB cable as long as the esata Controller card/chip drivers are installed. It is Plug & Play. Addonics Technologies 9
FIREWIRE USIB Cable (Model: AAFWC-406) Note: Pocket ExDrive is Plug and Play under Windows XP, 2000 and 98Me. There is no third party driver needed. Firewire USIB Connector Driver Installation for Win98 and Win98SE After plugging in the cable some system might prompt you for Win98SE CD, in case you don t have the Win98SE CD and the wizard prompts you for: NTMAP.SYS please type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS NTMAPHLP.PDR please type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS Reboot your system. Disk Management for Window 98 1. Make sure the Firewire USIB cable is securely attach from the back of the drive. 2. Make sure that power is attached and turned on. 3. Power on the system, on the Window Desktop, double click on the MY COMPUTER icon. 4. Plug the Addonics 6 Pin FIREWIRE-IDE cable into your computer s FIREWIRE port cable. 5. Wait for a few seconds, your computer may blink for a moment. Double Click on the My Computer icon if not open yet. Your Pocket ExDrive will appear as a Hard Disk drive icon. You are now ready to use the Pocket ExDrive. Addonics Technologies 10
