Jakrlć 3 1 Department of Mechancs and Aeronautcs, Sapenza Unversty of Rome, Va Eudossana 18, 00184 Rome, Italy, hanjalc@dma.ng.unroma1.t 2 Department of Mechancal Engneerng, Nagoya Insttute of Technology, Gokso-cho, Showa-ku, Nagoya 466-8555, Japan, nagano@heat.mech.ntech.ac.jp 3 Department of Mechancal Engneerng, Darmstadt Unversty of Technology, Petersenstr. 30, D-64287, Germany, s.jakrlc@sla.tu-darmstadt.de Abstract - Ths document descrbes the use of the paper style fle for the preparaton of extended abstracts/short papers 1 and full-length papers for the Sxth Internatonal Symposum on Turbulence, Heat and Mass Transfer THMT 09, to be held n Rome, Italy, on September 14-18, 2009. The manuscrpts abstract should not contan more than 150 words. 1. Introducton All papers that wll appear n the Proceedngs should strctly adhere to the style and format outlned here. Please note the unfed frst-page and the rest-pages headngs, whch must appear n all papers. Please use the templates avalable and read carefully the nstructons. If you ntend to use LaTeX as the word processor, please download the zp fle that has all the necessary styles and nstructons. The thmt-09 style fle s the general style fle that should be used when submttng a paper n LaTeX format (2.09). Ths style fle s based on `plan' LaTeX. It can also be processed by LaTeX2ε format, n whch the header for LaTeX2ε s used n ths document. If you do not use the LaTeX typesettng program, you can use these nstructons as general gudelnes for your own word processor, as far as layout and font sze s concerned. Note that the layout generated by ths style fle s based on A4 paper. The chosen font sze s 12pt because at a later stage the papers wll be reduced to ft n a standard B5 book format. Do not stretch the page-wdth or -length n order to squeeze n more words or lnes of text. A new paragraph (except the frst one after the secton/subsecton headng should begn wth an ndent of 3 letter spaces (as shown here). Do not use space to separate paragraphs. In general, you should submt your document as a PostScrpt fle or (preferably) PDF fle. 2. Layout The font type should be Tmes Roman, 12pt sze. The text wdth should be 160 mm, wth leftand rght-hand sde margns of 25 mm. The text heght s 240 mm, wth a bottom margn of 25 1 Prnted book of Proceedngs wll contan the short papers (4 pages) and the full-length keynote papers (12 pages). The CD-Proceedngs wll contan all full-length papers (see Secton 14 for recommended length). Authors are encouraged to submt the extended abstracts of 2-4 pages usng the same templates.

mm. The top margn s 18 mm. The vertcal space between the runnng heads and the body of the text s 9 mm. The runnng head tself s 3 mm hgh. 3. Runnng Heads Note that the runnng ttle on all even pages should be Turbulence, Heat and Mass Transfer 6 (tmes New Roman, talc font 11pt). On the odd pages, apart from the frst page, you should make your own runnng head, where you put the name of the author of the paper between the curly braces. If the paper has two authors, you should put the names of both authors between the braces. If the paper has three or more authors, you should put only the name of the frst author, followed by et al. 4. Paper Ttle The paper ttle s typeset n 20pt font sze (see ths document). Do not use the uppercase letters for each word, only the Intal Captal and where t s needed! 5. Author Names and Afflatons The author names should be typeset n 14pt font sze, whereas the afflatons should be gven n 12pt talc font (see ths document). 6. Sectons and (Sub)Subsectons For the secton ttles, you should use Intal Captals for each word (see ths document). (Sub)subsecton ttles should be typed usng an Intal Captal and the rest n lower case (see ths document). The secton ttles are typeset n 14pt boldface font; the subsecton ttles are gven n 12pt boldface font. The subsubsectons and paragraphs are typeset n 12pt talc font. The vertcal space between secton ttles and the body of the text s 2 mm. The vertcal space between the body of the text and the next secton ttle s 7 mm. 7. Equatons The equatons appearng n your paper should be numbered consecutvely. In general, equatons should be centered on the page. The equaton numbers should be flush rght. An equaton can and should look lke the one provded: ( U * U j ) 1 p U U + = + ( ν + ν m) t x j ρ x x j x j (12) It s recommended to put the equatons nto a table (wth no vsble frame) as shown. 8. Fgures and Tables 8.1. Fgures All fgures, graphs and lne drawngs should be clear and sharp and of hgh qualty. All fgures/photographs should be numbered consecutvely and captoned. The capton should be

K. Hanjalc et al. 11 pt, and upper and lower case letters, and flushed left under the fgure. Colour fgures are not allowed for the prnted book of Proceedngs. For the CD Proceedngs the authors are encouraged to provde colour mages. An example of a fgure s: Fgure 1: Geometry of the dffuser consdered, Cherry et al., 2008 (left) and the nstantaneous velocty feld obtaned by LES (rght) Smlar to the equatons, t s recommended to put fgures nto a table (wth no vsble frame). 8.2. Tables A table can and should look lke the one provded: Table 1: Capton text. Descrpton 1 Descrpton 2 Descrpton 3 Row 1, Col 1 Row 1, Col 2 Row 1, Col 3 Row 2, Col 1 Row 2, Col 2 Row 2, Col 3 9. Acknowledgements Acknowledgements can be gven n a separate secton after the conclusons but before the lst of references. It s declared as a numberless secton. 10. Appendces An Appendx can be gven n a separate secton after the man text. It should be done n the form of a Roman numbered Appendx secton. 11. Referencng The sample references are gven at the end of ths document. Please note that there s no extra vertcal space between consecutve tems. Wthn the text, references should be cted by gvng the last name of the author(s) and the year of publcaton of the reference. The year should always be enclosed n parentheses; whether or not the name of the author(s) should be enclosed wthn the parentheses depends on the context. The two possbltes are llustrated below: It was shown by Hattor et al. (2001) that the free stream turbulence nfluences strongly the combned-convectve boundary layer along the vertcal heated plate.

or It has been shown that the free stream turbulence nfluences strongly the combned-convectve boundary layer along the vertcal heated plate (Hattor et al., 2001). References can also be numbered wthn the text. In that case Arabc numerals n square brackets should be used, e.g. [2]. 12. Paper Length There wll be two types of Proceedngs: the prnted book of Proceedngs contanng only short papers (maxmum length s 4 pages) and the full-length keynote papers (maxmum length s 12 pages), and the CD-Proceedngs contanng all full-length papers. Both Proceedngs wll be handed out to the partcpants upon arrval to the Symposum. For the CD-Proceedngs, the recommended length of contrbutng papers s 12 pages and for keynote lectures 18 pages. For the CD Proceedngs the authors are encouraged to provde colour mages. 13. Paper Submsson The authors of accepted contrbutons are nvted to submt both the short papers and the full-length papers (deadlne May 31, 2009) n PostScrpt or (preferably) PDF format to thmt-09@thmt-09.org. The cover letter should nclude the name, address, phone, fax, and emal of the correspondng author. Manuscrpts should be prepared n accordance wth the Instructons to Authors. In the case of larger fles (more than 10 Mbytes), please send a short notce by e-mal n advance. 14. Journal Specal Issues Selected papers wll be publshed n specal ssues of nternatonal journals (Flow Turbulence and Combuston and Int. Journal for Heat and Flud Flow). 15.
