The same references are used Load reference, which was prepared with the vippaq Import Tool, from the strip folder. Open the database window Test, if trigger mark(s) get detected. In difference to the button Scan, the reference values do not change Automatic scan of the strip with measurement of reference values. In difference to the button Test, the reference values change Name of job Length of paper in the configured unit (mm or inch) If this field is selected, only the CMYK channels get selected upon measurement. For spot colors, this item should not be selected. Substrate predefinition for tolerances and averaging (as defined in settings, refer to the reference manual). Strip settings: Select the button to configure each strip separately: Field Position Strip Patch Count Equal Strip Cycle Time (ms) Head Position Select Continuous for measurements in a user defined cycle time without trigger marks (e.g. to control coating) Select the amount of patches to be measured Select the equal strip, if a strip of another measurement head is equal Define the cycle time for continuous measurements 7

3.1.1 Start a new job 1. Enter the repeat length in the configured unit (mm or inch) 2. Select the button Load to use the reference data from vippaq Import Tool or select the button Scan to define the reference data upon measurement. 3. Please check if the colors on the strip (control element) are correct (visual control). Move the mouse over the patches to get more information about it: To modify a patch, please refer to the following patch definition section. 4. Select a substrate type 5. Enter the job name 6. To define a halftone patch, first the according solid patch needs to be defined, with the button Select and then selecting the patch. For halftone patches, select the corresponding solid patch Select this button to select afterwards the corresponding solid patch on the strip Automatically selected channel can be manually changed Current measured density Reference value can be manually adjusted Warning limit for this color in 1/100 D (for solid patches) or in dot % (for halftone patches) Alarm limit for this color in 1/100 D (for solid patches) or in dot % (for halftone patches) Any comment can be added to the color 9

3.2 Database Select the button Database in the job window. Button Search Delete View Select / Unselect Close Field Job Date From To Start searching for jobs with given search criteria (see below field descriptions) Delete the selected job Open the report of the selected job Add/Remove the selected job to/from the job list in the job window (can be activated/deactivated in the settings --> refer in the reference manual to the Look&Feel section) Close the database window Job Name Available period selections: All This Month This Week Date (see below fields) If in the field Select Date Date is selected, it searches for jobs in the given period (Start) If in the field Select Date Date is selected, it searches for jobs in the given period (End). 10

3.3 Assign Colors To assign the colors to the inking units, select a solid patch of the strip (control element) and move it with drag and drop to the ink unit. For every measurement head and ink unit a measuring field is displayed. Head 1 Head 2 Button Start Back Edit Start the measurement Back to the job window To edit reference values, upon selection of references To start the measurement select the button Start. 11

3.4 Measure If all measurements are within tolerance, OK is displayed in the status field. The displayed values indicate the density difference to the reference values in 1/100 density. Status Job Button End Job Pause Strip Reference End measurement Interrupt the measurements, until the appearing Continue button is pressed Change to the strip view (control element) View and/or modify reference values Select the desired color patch to display the corresponding trend diagram. 12

If at least one measured value is not in the defined tolerance, it is displayed as followed: One color out of alarm tolerance: Color of the status field changes to red and ATTENTION is displayed Difference values change colors: orange (Warning), red (Alarm) Arrow: Density too high Density too low A corresponding entry is added to the error table Density too low Density difference in 1/100 Error table 13

Select the button Strip to change to the strip view (control element). Button End Job End measurement Edit To edit reference values, upon selection of references Pause Interrupt the measurements, until the appearing Continue button is pressed % / Density Change between density and dot area value (for halftone patches) Units Change to the ink view Reference View and/or modify reference values For every patch above the strip the current measured value, and below the current difference to the reference is displayed (in 1/100 density for density values). Like in the main window the density difference is displayed in orange (Warning) respectively in red (Alarm), if they are outside the tolerance. Select the desired color patch to display the corresponding trend diagram. 14
