What you will need The Registration Name and Registration Key provided in an email from Digital Dental. The USB Stick provided by Digital Dental with your equipment. Some computer knowledge Administrator privileges on the installation computer including password to that computer when restart is needed About 30 minutes of your time DO NOT plug your EMG into a computer until the software has been installed. Install the software first, then install the equipment (hardware). Some terms used in this guide Software BioPAK, Current Version 8 Hardware JVA, EMG or Jaw Tracker equipment Courier Font indicates information that should be typed into the computer as shown Right click Select an item using the right mouse button What you will need Page 2
BioPAK Software Installation Your new EMG is operated through the BioPAK computer program. You must install the program before connecting any equipment to the computer. The BioPAK program is provided on the BioPAK Program CD. This is a stand-alone (single computer) version of the BioPAK program and cannot be installed and used across a network. If you think you would benefit from a network version of the program please contact us before proceeding. Please follow this guide in the order indicated. Please do not skip any steps. 1. Insert the BioPAK Program CD into the computer that you will use with your equipment. Note: The BioPAK Program CD is a single labelled disc and not the Bio PAK Operations 2 x DVD set 2. In most cases the installation program should start 3. If so, Skip to Step 4 below If the installation program does not automatically start: a) Opens Windows File Explorer and locate OR your DVD/CD drive then click on the drive to start the installation program b) Click the Windows Start button (right click in Windows 8). Click on Run: Type D:\setup.exe (where D is the drive letter of your DVD/CD drive). Go to Step 4 below If you have a laptop computer that does not have a DVD/CD drive, a copy of the installation files is provided on the USB stick from Digital Dental. Insert the USB stick into the computer that you will use with your equipment and open the folder that contains the files on the USB stick (this may be automatic on your computer). Locate and open the folder named BioPAK Install. Locate the Application file named setup or setup.exe. This is the program that will install BioPAK. It needs to be run using an account with administrator privileges. Open the setup file with administrator privileges Hint: right click the file and select Go to Step 4 below BioPAK Software Installation Page 3
4. Follow the on-screen prompts to begin the installation. If the computer asks for permission to continue (at any stage) please select yes, continue or OK. Click Next Accept the terms in the license agreement Click Next Click Next to accept the destination folder Click Install BioPAK Software Installation Page 4
Wait it may take several minutes to install. When asked to Choose the InstaCal version for recording on this computer select All others and click Next. 5. A message InstallShield Wizard Completed will appear (with a smaller message box hidden behind). Click Finish in the larger box (you may not see the smaller box). 6. The larger message box will disappear. Click OK in the WinZip Sef-Extractor 7. Click Setup BioPAK Software Installation Page 5
8. The InstaCal for Windows Installer will start - Click Next Click Next to accept the destination folder Click Install Wait Wait BioPAK Software Installation Page 6
9. When asked Would you like to install this device software? Place a tick in the box next to Always trust software from Measurement Computing Corporation. Then click Install. 10. Click Finish 11. Select Yes to restart the computer after the installation is finished. Proceed to Hardware installation on the next page. BioPAK Software Installation Page 7
Hardware installation Important: You must install the BioPAK software before installing the hardware (EMG). Please follow this guide in the order indicated. Please do not skip any steps. Attaching your equipment to the computer Step 1 Plug your equipment into the computer Your new EMG is connected to the computer by a single USB cable. The USB socket must be on the same computer as the BioPAK program and where measurements are to be taken. The EMG connects to the computer through a USB Interface Box. Assemble the power supply Find the box labelled 15 volt Power Supply. Locate the provided standard power cord and insert into the socket on the power supply box Using that power cord, plug the Power Supply into a wall outlet. Hardware installation Page 8
Assemble the interface box Locate the USB Interface box. Locate the end with two sockets Locate the end with 32 pin socket 1 2 3 1. Plug the power cable from the Power Supply into the round socket. 2. Plug the provided USB cable into the square socket. 3. Plug the 32 pin cable from your EMG machine into the appropriate socket. 4. Turn on the power supply at the wall socket. 5. Make sure the computer is turned on. 6. Plug the flat end of the USB cable into a suitable USB socket on the computer. Step 2 USB interface detection When the USB cable is inserted, the computer will detect the connection and begin installation of the hardware. This is an automatic process. Wait for the computer to install the device driver software. This may take 10 minutes or more. During this process, you may see several messages stating that the drivers are being installed. At the end of the process, the message will change and state that Your new hardware is installed and ready to use or a similar message depending on your computer settings. Step 3 Running the InstaCal Program You need to locate on your computer the program InstaCal that was installed at the same time as the BioPAK program. The procedure varies depending on the type of computer system (Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or 8). There is no desktop Shortcut for this program. This is a once only procedure. Windows XP 1. Click the Start button 2. Click All Programs 3. Find the program folder named Measurement Computing 4. Open that folder 5. Click on the InstaCal program icon to launch it Hardware installation Page 10
Windows Vista and Windows 7 1. Click on the start button 2. In Search Box enter Instacal 3. Click on the InstaCal program Icon Windows 8 1. Right click the Start/Windows icon (bottom left) 2. Click Search a grey pane will appear on the right hand side of your computer screen. 3. Type Instacal into the search box 4. The program icon for InstaCal will appear below 5. InstaCal will start Wait until InstaCal finds the interface board and the message shown below appears, and then Click OK. If it does not automatically find the board, contact BioResearch. DO NOT add the board manually The board is now in the list and ready to use. Close InstaCal. Your BioPAK system is now ready to use. Hardware installation Page 12
Running BioPAK for the first time Open the BioPAK program using the desktop icon Enter your Registration Name and Registration Key as provided in an email from Digital Dental. This is a once only procedure. Hint: Enter your user name exactly as sent including any spaces and full stops. The main program screen will open including a notification panel for any upcoming BioResearch events. Also note the BioPAK User Guide shortcut on the desktop. Running BioPAK for the first time Page 13
