12. If you chose not to close the programs that needed updating, a Windows dialog appears and gives you the choice to reboot now or later. Part E: Confirm Movie Maker 2.1 is installed on the PC Movie Maker 2.1 is available for download with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). To confirm that it is installed on each PC, navigate to Start > Accessories > Entertainment > Windows Movie Maker. If this option is not available, Windows Movie Maker has not installed. Please confirm that you have correctly run Part A: Windows XP Updates and Service Packs. Part F: Installing a Webcam (optional) A webcam is optional hardware for the My PC Series workshop, Connecting with Friends and Family. Depending on your hardware, the PC or laptop may come with a webcam and have the software preinstalled. If not, your institution may chose to run the class without a webcam or purchase a webcam to install. This section outlines a sample webcam installation using the Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000. 1. Physically disconnect the LifeCam hardware from the PC before starting the software installation; the setup program will tell you when to connect the LifeCam USB cable to the PC. 2. The setup program sometimes pauses a long time between parts of the installation, so be patient and wait for the next dialog to appear. 9 My PC Technical Setup Guide, Windows XP Rev 2.2

NOTE: The LifeCam was designed for Windows XP, so the drivers on the installation CD reflect that. However, the setup program automatically checks for the operating system version. When Windows Vista or Windows 7 is detected, a Warning dialog appears. The Warning dialog contains a solution link that takes you to the appropriate drivers on the Web. Click the link to redirect the install automatically to the appropriate drivers for your operating system and continue the install. Part G: Personalization To complete the setup process of readying these PCs for the My PC classes, certain features must be configured and customized. To do that, perform the following steps: 1. Open Windows Live Mail 2. Press Alt+M on the keyboard to access the menu 3. Click Options 4. On the General tab near the bottom, look to see if Windows Live Mail is set as the default Mail handler. If not, click the Make Default button 5. Close Windows Live Mail 6. Open Internet Options in Control Panel 7. Click the Programs tab 8. Find E-mail in the Internet programs section 9. Change it to Windows Live Mail 10. Click OK Pin Programs to the Start Menu 1. Part H: If your institution is running the My PC: Connecting with Friends and Family Workshop, the IP Allow process must be completed with your My PC Relationship Manager for the class to run successfully. If the IP Allow process has not occurred, only two Windows Live IDs may be created per IP address, per day. You may test this by signing up for more than two test Live IDs at https://signup.live.com (notice the https://) or by contacting your relationship manager. If you do not know who your relationship manager is, please email askmypc@microsoft.com. Part I: Install class-specific folders and files Supporting files for the workshops and course are provided.
