The qualification is designed to provide construction related industries with trained people who have the essential knowledge, skills and aptitude required to be a competent supervisor for the work of a specific trade on construction projects. Graduate profile Graduates of this qualification will be able to: - Operate within a regulatory environment to implement processes for site personnel as it applies to a specific construction related trade - Administer and complete construction programming for a specific trade s portion of a construction project - Apply principles of supervision in a construction related workplace to supervise groups of specific tradespeople to the completion of their activities to a quality standard - Apply effective time management, communication, interpersonal and conflict management resolution skills when supervising in a construction related context. Outcome Statement Education pathway This certificate represents a further step in the construction related career pathway and is for people who hold trade qualifications at Level 3 or above from the Planning and Construction related fields on the NZQF, or are Licensed Building Practitioners in their field. Trades (Main Contract Supervision) (Level 5) [Ref: 2382] or diploma or degree level qualifications in the field of Management, Quantity Surveying, Architectural Technology, or any other building and construction related fields. Employment pathway Graduates of the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Supervisor) (Level 4) will be able to work in residential or commercial construction as: Qualification specifications - Business Owners/Operators - Construction Assistants - Construction Co-ordinators - Contract Administrators - Assistant Project Managers With further training and/or experience graduates may be able to work in residential or commercial construction as: - Main Contract Supervisors - Site Managers - Project Managers - Contract Managers Qualification award This qualification may be awarded by the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) as the qualification developer and the industry training organisation arranging training leading to the qualification under section 5 of the Industry Training Act 1992. This qualification may also be awarded by an education provider recognised as a programme owner, accredited under section 259 of the Education Act 1989 to deliver a programme leading to this qualification. The formal document certifying the award of this qualification will display the NZQF logo and may also include the name or logo of the qualification developer and/or other awarding body. Evidence Requirements for Assuring Consistency All education organisations delivering programmes that lead to the award of the qualification are required to participate in a consistency process scheduled by NZQA. This will involve review of evidence associated with graduate s achievement of outcomes, and agreeing acceptable thresholds for qualification outcome achievement, and areas for improvement. To demonstrate how graduates are achieving the qualification graduate profile outcomes, TEOs are required to produce their own evidence in a high level report. Programme statistics such as completion data and graduate destination data Evidence from internal and/or external moderation processes. Documentation of processes that ensure programmes continue to meet current industry needs. Regular feedback gathered from learners and employers Any other relevant evidence as appropriate. Further information about the consistency process can be found at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/providerspartners/consistency-of-graduate-outcomes/ Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning arrangements Minimum standard of achievement and standards for grade endorsements Entry requirements (including prerequisites to meet regulatory body or legislative requirements) Tertiary Education Organisations (TEOs) delivering programmes that lead to award of this qualification may transfer credit and recognise prior learning in accordance with their own credit recognition policies and procedures. Credit transfer will be automatic where assessment standards are used for assessment within programmes of study or training leading to this qualification. Recognition of current competence acknowledges the skills and knowledge gained from work and experience, or from courses or study undertaken. Assessment of recognition of current competence may be conducted by an assessor appointed by the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation or an organisation with consent to assess. Achievement of all outcomes in the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Supervisor) (Level 4). There are no grade endorsements for this qualification. It is expected that candidates for this qualification will have existing knowledge and skills in the trade that they will be supervising. Consequently, the award of any qualification at Level 3 or 4 from the Planning and Construction related subfields, or the demonstration of equivalent knowledge and skills, is a prerequisite for entry to this qualification. The last date for completion of that qualification is 31 December 2018, at which time it will be discontinued. Existing candidates may either complete the replaced qualification [Ref 1661] by 31 December 2018 or transfer to the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Supervisor) (Level 4) [Ref: 2381].
