Complementary Solution for Port of Charleston and Port of Savannah Growing Capacities Jasper Ocean Terminal In 2008, an Intergovernmental Agreement between South Carolina and Georgia formed the Jasper Ocean Terminal Joint Project Office to further pursue the Jasper Ocean Terminal through additional concept development and studies. The purpose for Jasper Ocean Terminal is to provide a bi-state owned and operated port facility in Jasper County, South Carolina on the Savannah River that can accommodate a minimum of 25-years of projected growth for containerized cargo in support of economic development for the region.
Location of Project Located approximately 8 miles from the ocean and 8.5 miles downstream of the Garden City Terminal, the 1,500- acre Jasper Ocean Terminal site is widely considered to be the best remaining undeveloped port site on the East Coast.
The Jasper Ocean Terminal will be designed as a state-of-the-art, world class terminal, able to handle effectively the new Panamax 12,000 TEU ships, requiring 50-feet depth and 158- feet width.
