Holders of the certificate are able to carry out tasks such as replenishments, refuelling, ground handling, and pre- and post-flight checks on an aircraft flight line or ramp. Options are available within the qualification for servicing either helicopters or fixed wing aircraft. This qualification is designed as a stand-alone qualification. While this qualification does not specifically lead to other qualifications, it incorporates compulsory core unit standards common to the award of the National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Specialist Support) with optional strands in Aeronautical Composites, Aeronautical Electroplating, Aeronautical Machining, Aeronautical Non Destructive Testing, Aircraft Furnishings and Equipment, Aircraft Mechanical, Aircraft Painting, Aircraft Powerplant, Aircraft Structures, Armament, Avionics, and Rotorcraft [Ref: 0191], the National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering with strands in Aeronautical Non Destructive Testing, Armament, Avionic Electrical Repair, Avionic Instrument Repair, Avionic Maintenance, Avionic Radio Repair, Aircraft Mechanical, Aircraft Powerplant, Rotorcraft, and Aircraft Structures [Ref: 0192], and the National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Related Technology) [Ref: 0381]. This qualification can lead on from the National Certificate in Aviation (Introductory) (Level 2) [Ref: 1105], and it may be of interest to employees who are intending to work towards national certificates or national diplomas in the subfields of Aeronautical Engineering, depending on the direction of their intended career pathway. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The structure of the qualification has been changed, with some compulsory unit standards moved to the elective section, and the removal of the optional section, to provide greater flexibility across multiple workplaces. Changes to structure and content unit standards 3901, 3903, and 3911 have been moved from the compulsory section to the elective section; compulsory unit standard 2824 has been replaced by unit standards 21911 and 21912; unit standard 3910 has been replaced by unit standards 20633 and 20634, with unit standard 20633 moving to the elective section and unit standard 20634 becoming a compulsory unit; unit standards 3904 and 3905 have been removed from the qualification; overall credit value has increased from 71 to 73 credits. People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 4 of this qualification may either complete that version or transfer to version 5.
