Student notebooks can be created within this class notebook to provide a digital space for students to record and share their learning, as well as to reflect on their progress. Teachers have access to student s notebook at anytime and are able to see student s work to provide timely feedback. Teachers can distribute any page of the class notebook to the students notebook with the click of a button You may consder adding students after you have populated a OneNoteclass notebook with instructions and notes for the students. Learning Objectives Completion of this tutorial will give you experience with the following: Creating a class notebook and adding students Adding multimedia This tutorial assumes User has a microsoft account and have access to onedrive User has an ipad with the OneNote app Case Study A Grade3/4 teacher set up OneNote class notebook for each of her students. The class notebook allows her to access every student s notebook without having to physically collect them which allows for timely feedback and guidance for the students. She can also push out assigment templates and instructions directly to all students notebooks. The students just practiced on using manipulatives to form arrays for multiplication questions. The teacher encouraged the class to take pictures of their work and add it to their OneNote notebookds. Creating a new OneNote class notebook 1 This process needs to be completed with the online version of OneNote. Go to onedrive.com and signin with your district account. 2 Click on the apps button on the top left corner. 3 Click on the Class Notebook icon. 4 Select Create a class notebook. www.setbc.org Page 3 of 11 Dec 2017
5 Follow the promts to name your notebook. Another teacher can be added to the notebook for collaboration anytime after a notebook is created. Consider adding students after you have populated your notebook with instructions for students. When designing student spaces, use the default sections and create more sections later. Click Next to skip to the next sections. 6 Click Create to create your new class notebook. 7 Setting up the notebook takes a couple of seconds. 8 Click Open in OneNote to open the notebook in desktop version of OneNote. You can open both versions at the same time to see how changes made on one version will show up in the other within seconds. Note that by default, there are two sections called Content Library and Collaboration Space. Please do not rename these sections as it can cause access permission issues. Pages within these sections can be added and renamed. Encourage students to use the online version of OneNote while collaborating to avoid having different versions of the same document. Adding a student OneNote online 1 This process needs to be completed with the online version of OneNote. To access your class notebook, go to onedrive.com and click on Files. Double click on a class notebook. 2 Go to the Class Notebook tab 3 Click on the Person icon to add a student. You will be directed to the prompts online. www.setbc.org Page 5 of 11 Dec 2017
4 Select the class notebook from the suggested list. 5 Add student by typing in his/her email address. The system should recognize the email and provide suggestions on a dropdown list. 6 Click Next to move on to preview the list of students to be added. Click Update to confirm the student changes. 7 Wait for the system to set up the new notebook. 8 The notebook should be ready in seconds. 9 You will see your students notebooks when you open your class notebook 10 Students can access the notebook from the Shared with me tab when they log in to Onedrive.com. Students will be able to see their own notebook and also the sections in the teacher s class notebook. Distributing a Page OneNote online 1 Go to the page to be distributed. 2 A panel will come up on the right hand side. Select the section for the page to be distributed and click Distribute. 3 The process might take a couple of seconds to complete. The Page distributed successfully will appear when the process is complete. All students will get a copy of the page in their notebook s Handouts section. Adding a picture OneNote online 1 Access the class notebook from onedrive.com Go to the Class Notebooks folder. 2 Click on the Insert tab. www.setbc.org Page 8 of 11 Dec 2017
3 To insert a picture from your computer, select Picture. Note that the cursor needs to be away from the title area of the page for this option to be available. 4 Click on Choose File to insert a file from your computer. In cases where OneDrive is synced to the computer, you will be able to choose a file from OneDrive. Note that syncing is only suggested when working on a VSB personal computer you solely own and are working on. Adding an audio recording OneNote online 1 Go to the Insert Tab 2 Choose Record Audio. 3 The Record and Playback ribbon will come up. Recording starts automatically. 4 Click "Stop" to complete recording. An audio file icon will be created automatically. 5 Click on the icon to listen to the audio without downloading any files.
