Key verse for the year: Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Let s Get Started! Yearbook Production Introduction (Course Syllabus) Questionnaire-What do you know about yearbook? (We will complete during yearbook time. On Website) Survey-What are some of your ideas about yearbook? (We will complete during yearbook time. On Website) Grade Contract for yearbook Staff positions Yearbook Outline-areas to cover this year

Jostens and Yearbook Avenue Some Important Guidelines Do not give out your user name and password to anyone (especially those that are not on the yearbook staff) Do not make changes to pages that are not necessary Be sure to check your layout and spelling Use only the best photographs (quality, resolution, subject matter-edit before you upload to Jostens) Try to use only 2 fonts on a page at a time

Image rules to follow Yearbook images are for use in the yearbook only. Do not give out or use any of the yearbook images without permission from Mr. Conant Portraits are owned by Mark Groves and are only for use in the GCC yearbook. Team photos are owned by Mark Groves and are only for use in the GCC yearbook. Images on the computer are to be protected since they are the only ones we have for use in the yearbook. All images need to be backed up on a regular basis. Everyone on the staff needs to get involved with the photography for the yearbook. Be sure to make note when an event needs to be covered. (sign out a camera from Mr. Conant or tell the photo editor)

In an attempt to avoid using the same image more than once in the yearbook we will try something new this year. Yearbook Avenue will keep track of all images used in our book. You will receive notification if the images has already been used in the book. In the past we have had trouble with images being used more than once because that image has been uploaded more than once to the yearbook images site and then someone else puts that same image on a page.

Page Design Look at examples from the Jostens Look Books. These are the best of the best in yearbook design. Each page must have a title, images with captions (exception would be all candid pages), page background. Be sure to use a different font for the title and captions. Check color of font to be sure it is readable. Add features like image borders, drop shadows, etc.

Page Completion Criteria Gather images for page. Do not just upload a bunch of images, but check out the ones you really want on the page and upload to a folder that is named for the page to Yearbook Avenue Images. (You will be given instruction on how to do this). Images that need to be edits in Photoshop should be edited completely before uploading. This can include cropping, adjusting brightness, contrast, etc.) Keep the same file name and just save the edit over the original file name. You can do some cropping by zooming into an image when the image is placed in the space on Yearbook Avenue. Select a background for the page that goes well with the images and subject. You can use the backgrounds provided in the Jostens clipart or make your own in Photoshop (You will be given instruction on how to do this). Create and place a page title on the page. Use a larger font for the title and be sure to add an effect. If the background is dark use a lighter color if it is light use a darker color for the font. You can add a drop shadow using the Format tools in Yearbook Avenue. Select image shapes and place them on the page. If you want them to be all the same size use copy and paste to create the new image spaces. Use good design in placing the images on the page. Be sure to leave room for captions.

Page Completion Criteria Create captions for all images. Captions do not need to be complete sentences so do not put a period at the end of the caption. Team images need to have the players identified by row. List them as front, middle back, etc. but do not put left to right since we read that way normally. Be sure all names are correctly spelled. You can consult the GCC Student Rosters provided for the correct spelling. Before the page is completed be sure to add some effects to the images. You can select them all at once using the Format panel. Using the Format Panel will really make your page standout from other pages. Stroke-can be used a place a border around an image. Drop Shadow-can be used to add a drop shadow to text or images Corner Rounding-can be used to make your images shapes look more attractive on the page Change Shape-can be used to change the shape of the images after you have already placed images on the page Make Background-can be used to make an image on the page become the background. You will be told if the images is of high enough resolution to be used as a full page background. If you click on the background you can change the tint so that it is easier to read text on the page. You can experiment with other formatting but be sure your page looks great.

Page Completion Criteria When you have completed your page be sure to run a spell check on the page and correct any misspelled names or words. After you have completed all of the page mark it Complete for your editor and advisor to check. If it needs more work you will have the page returned with instructions on what to fix on the page. The final step is to have the page submitted. A submitted page cannot be edited further. To get a submitted page back for editing it will cost $25 per page so make sure your page is completed finished and accurate at the time of submission. Completed Chapel page spread from last year.

Candid Pages A major rule to following in creating candid pages-do not go to other folders like sports pages, especially pages that have been submitted, and use images for your candid pages. Use original images taken as candid's. Too many sports images get duplicated on class and candid pages

Yearbook Avenue Demo Take a look at Yearbook Avenue Can you list some advantages of using the Web to complete a yearbook? Can see what the book will look like immediately, before it is printed Can check pages more easily Can see who is in the book-coverage Report Easier to create pages using templates Much easier to edit pages as you go Can view the virtual book as it is being completed Can move pages around Can use spell check

Purpose of the Name Index: Will let the yearbook staff know who is in the book and how often they appear in the book. Rules for implementing the Name Index: In the Images library you can see what images are actually used on the pages. You only have to index images with 6 or less people in the image. Use the face finder to locate the face of the person you want to index, then locate their name from the student list pull-down menu. The more images that are indexed the better will be the record of the students that are in the book. Our goal is to have everyone in the book at least 3 times not counting their mug shot. (See the index part of Yearbook Avenue)

Canon Rebels XS and T3i Advantages- Interchangeable lenses Faster ISO Take better images Better in low light Better flash These can be used at school by Yearbook Staff Members and with permission at after school events. Check with Mr. Conant for camera sign-out

Some photographic hints! Use a faster speed setting so that the shots are not blurred-check to see if they are sharp Hold the camera steady Take close-ups so you can see faces Take plenty of shots, they do not cost us Be sure to copy images to the computer and back them up on a CD Erase only images that are really poor quality Be sure the quality is set at the highest setting Do not loan yearbook cameras to those not on the yearbook staff Be available to help with photography

You will be able to edit any images you want with Adobe Photoshop CC. We will take some time to teach you how to work with that software in editing yearbook images. Remember, any image you want to edit with Photoshop must be edited before the image is sent up to the Yearbook Website-Yearbook Avenue. Select the images you want to use on your page, put them in another folder, edit them with Adobe Photoshop CC, then upload them to Yearbook Avenue. Make sure you select the best images based on subject and quality. Some examples of editing might be: Colorizing the image, making a collage, making the image black and white, cropping the image, making it sharper, etc. Images that are too dark or too light can also be enhanced using Adobe Photoshop CC.

Challenge! Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord... Let s work as a team to make this a great yearbook!
