6-1-11. Replacing the Encoder Strip The following describes the procedure for replacing the Encoder Strip. Refer to the diagram below for identifying the parts and their positions. (The numbers shown in [ ] in the procedure correspond to the numbers of parts in the diagram.) 174
Procedure: <Note> Do not touch the surface of the Encoder Strip. Treat the Encoder Strip carefully. Otherwise it may be damaged. (1) Before turning off, make the following setting on the Control Panel. 1. Make sure is not in the middle of any operation. 2. Press the OK Button to open the Menu Display. 3. Press the Up/Down Button to select Maintenance, and then press the OK Button. 4. Press the Up/Down Button to select Nozzle Cleaning, and then press the OK Button. 5. Turn off. (2) Remove the Front Cover and Back Cover as a unit. (See 7-1. Removing the Covers for details.) (3) Remove the screw pan (S/P washer) (M4x10) [65], and then remove the Encoder Strip Cover [64]. (4) Remove the spring [63] from the Encoder Strip Support R [61], and then remove the Encoder Strip [58]. (5) Peel off the protection seat from the new Encoder Strip to a position over the hang hole. (6) Put the circular hole side of the Encoder Strip [58] on the Encoder Strip Support L [59]. (7) Run the Encoder Strip [58] through the sensor slit on the Carriage PCB ASSY [85], and then attach the Encoder Strip [58] to the Encoder Strip Support R [61] by using the spring [63]. (8) Move the Carriage fully close to the Encoder Strip Support that is to be adjusted. (9) Loosen the bolt sockets (S/P washer) (M4x12) [60], [62] on the Encoder Strip Support that is to be adjusted. (10) Adjust the position of the Encoder Strip Support so that it is almost at the center of the sensor slit on the Carriage PCB ASSY [85]. (11) After the adjustment, fasten the bolt sockets (S/P washer) (M4x12) [60], [62] on the Encoder Strip Support. (12) Remove the protection seat. (13) Attach the Encoder Strip Cover [64] with the screw pan (S/P washer) (M4x10) [65]. (Tightening torque: 1.1 N m) (14) Mount the Front Cover and Back Cover as a unit. (See 8-9. Mounting the Covers for details.) 175
(4) Replace Maintenance PCB. Remove the spacers of 4 corners and remove the PCB. 6-2-12. Replacing Carriage PCB After replacement of Carriage PCB is done, use GTService Tool to readjust the thermistor. Prepare a thermometer. <Note> Pay attention to the followings when you re-install Carriage PCB. 1) Be sure to pass Encoder Strip through the slit of Encoder Sensor. 2) Do not leave fingerprints on Encoder Strip. Better to use clean plastic gloves. (1) Remove Power Cord. (2) Refer to "6-2-11 Replacing Maintenance PCB (2)" and remove Rear Cover. 208
(3) Remove Back Cover. Unscrew 15 screws of Back Cover. Unscrew 1 screw pan at the body edge of Ground Wire: 220. Open Front Cover and raise Rear Cover from the bottom. 209
Pull out both Front Cover and Rear Cover together to the upper-forward direction. (4) Remove Tube Holder. Remove 4 tubes from Tube Holder. Unscrew 2 screws and remove Tube Support Plate. Cap down by rotating the CL Drive Cam by hand and move Carriage to the middle of the Carriage Guide Shaft. Fix the 4 tubes together at the Front Cover Support (SA6072001) with a cord so that the tubes won't get loose. 210
(5) Disconnect FFC Harnesses. Disconnect 4 Head FFCs and Control 2 FFCs. Refer to (5) Disconnect Harnesses of "6-2-7 Replacing Control Box (of Main PCB)". "Metal pole" is your side. Confirm the direction of insertion and lock/unlock mechanism. 3607M 211
6. Replacing Parts (6) Remove Encoder Strip Cover. Unscrew 2 screws. (7) Replace Carriage PCB. Unscrew 2 screw pans and 4 spacers. Confirm that the static torque of screwing is 0.2 N㨯m. 212
Remove (slide) Carriage PCB with Sensor taking off Encoder Strip from the slit of Encoder Sensor. Encoder Strip <Note> Pay attention to the followings when you re-install Carriage PCB. 1) Be sure to pass Encoder Strip through the slit of Encoder Sensor. 2) Do not leave fingerprints on Encoder Strip. Sensor Slit (8) Adjust the firmware controls with GTService Tool. After replacement is done, use GTService Tool to readjust the thermistor. Preparation Store the GTService Tool in a USB memory device etc. and connect it to the PC. Prepare a thermometer to check the temperature. 213
<Note> We recommend that you use a USB memory device. The GTService Tool can be started from the USB memory device directly. When you use a CD-ROM in which the GTService Tool is stored, copy the GTService Tool onto the PC to use it. If you use the customer s PC, be sure to uninstall the GTService Tool from the PC after the adjustment. Also, Printer Driver has to be installed beforehand in using GTService Tool. Procedure (1) Check that the PC is connected to directly with a USB cable. * The adjustment cannot be done if they are connected by way of print server. (2) Turn ON and make sure that Printer Driver is installed in the PC. (3) Start the GTService Tool and select Printer Parts Exchange" and then click "Next". <Note> If the dialog box for the printer driver appears, close it. (4) Select "Carriage PCB" and click "Next" and follow the wizard. It will take a few minutes to finish readjustment. 214
