3 Certified Graphics Configurations The following graphics card configurations were certified with ImageStation 2016 on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. When the user roams the stereo cursor over existing features that are locatable it causes a snap glyph to appear, which in turns causes the roam display to halt 3

4 Certified Graphics Configurations momentarily. This will result in extremely jerky roam if there are a lot of features displayed and the SmartSnap options are enabled on the GeoMedia Vector tab. Users can disable SmartSnap options to eliminate the problem. This problem does not occur with older drivers but those won't support the Maxwell and Kepler series cards properly. The problem also does not occur on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. We are continuing to investigate this with NVIDIA, check with Hexagon Geospatial support for the latest information on this. 4 Loading a stereo view into roam mode in any application will cause a narrow band of image corruption along the bottom and along the right edge of the stereo display when using Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. This problem does not occur on Windows 7. 5 S E C T I O N 1 Installing the Driver If not already done, install the Nvidia graphics card and plug the stereo emitter into a USB port. If your system prompts to install drivers cancel the setup. Installing the NVIDIA Graphics Driver 1. Install the NVIDIA graphics card driver. The ImageStation Master Setup has the latest certified driver available for installation from its Display Drivers section. Select the Custom option when prompted, and select the Perform a clean installation option. Follow the rest of the prompts per usual. 2. Reboot if prompted. 3. Configure the driver as described in the appropriate sections in the rest of this guide. When the installation is finished and the driver is configured, the light on the emitter will glow dull green. When a stereo application is started, the emitter will glow bright green. The first time a stereo application is started after logging in the monitor(s) will momentarily go black. This is called a "mode set" and is normal operation for the graphics card as it enables the stereo display. 5

6 S E C T I O N 2 3D Vision Stereo LCD Display Configuration Configuring the LCD Displays 1. Right click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. 2. Select Change resolution: 3. Set the Resolution to the monitor's native resolution. 4. Set the Refresh rate to 120Hz. 5. Click Apply. Click Yes when prompted to confirm the settings. 6. Repeat for the second LCD monitor, if present. If the second monitor is not stereo capable the Refresh rate setting for that monitor is not critical. 6

7 3D Vision Stereo LCD Display Configuration Configuring the Stereo Settings These settings pertain to ISPM, ISAT, ISSD and ISSG. 1. Select Manage 3D settings. 2. From the Global presets list, select Intergraph ISSD: 7

9 S E C T I O N 3 Configure Stereoscopic 3D When running ImageStation applications in Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, you need to enable and configure the Stereoscopic 3D settings. This option should not be enabled when working in the Windows 7 environment. 1. Expand Stereoscopic 3D. 2. Click on Set up stereoscopic 3D. 3. Check the Enable stereoscopic 3D option. 4. Set the Stereoscopic 3D display type to match your monitor type. Do not use 3D Vision Discover. 5. Follow the rest of the prompts for the Stereoscopic 3D configuration wizard. If at any time your stereo views change to anaglyph stereo (red/blue display) in any of your applications, revisit the Set up stereoscopic 3D tab and reset the Stereoscopic 3D display type back to match your monitor type, as it is sometimes possible that it will automatically change to 3D Vision Discover, especially right after the first stereo mode set occurs on a newly installed graphics system. 9

10 S E C T I O N 4 Configure 3D Settings for ISAT Multiphoto This information is supplied for legacy purposes. These settings are only necessary when using drivers older than version Make sure ImageStation Automatic Triangulation is installed on the system. 2. From Manage 3D settings, select the Program Settings tab. 3. Click Add: 10

From the Add dialog that appears, use Browse to locate the isat.exe program (default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\hexagon\imagestation Automatic Triangulation 2016): 5. Under Specify the settings for this program, make sure these Features are set as follows: Enable overlay is set to On. Exported pixel types is set to Color indexed overlays (8 bpp). Stereo Display mode is set to On-board DIN connector (with NVIDIA 3D Vision). 11

13 S E C T I O N 5 Planar 3D Stereo Mirror Display Configuration ImageStation applications are no longer certified with Planar stereo mirror configurations. This information is supplied for legacy purposes only. Setting Up the Planar 3D Stereo Mirror Display Hardware The Planar 3D Stereo Mirror display system uses an add-in mirror card to accomplish 3D stereo viewing. The In connector on the mirror card must be connected the graphics card. The Out connector on the mirror card must be connected to the upper Planar monitor. The following sections show you how to connect the cables for the NVIDIA cards that were certified with the Planar display system. Please note that the cards in the photos might appear "upside down" compared to your own system. Use the 3-pin DIN stereo connector on the back of your card as a point of reference to determine which way your cards are installed. Quadro FX

Exported pixel types is set to RGB overlays (RGB555 format). Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration is set to Compatibility performance mode. Stereo Display mode is set to nview Clone mode. Stereo Enable is set to On. 27

Right click on the desktop and select Properties. 2. Select the Settings tab. 3. Highlight monitor 2 and check Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor: 4. Set the desired Screen resolution for monitor 2. 30

In the configuration shown above, the Planar display will be the primary monitor. To make the additional display the primary monitor, check Use this device as the primary monitor: 7. If you have physically placed the additional monitor to the left of the Planar display: 8. Drag the monitor 2 icon to the left of monitor Right click on the Taskbar at the bottom of the Planar display. 10. Uncheck Lock the Taskbar, if it is checked: 31

33 S E C T I O N 6 CRT Display Configuration only. Current drivers no longer support CRT monitors. This information is supplied for legacy purposes Setting Up the Displays 1. In Windows XP, right click on the desktop and select Properties. In Windows 7, navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution. 2. In Windows XP, select the Settings tab, and click Advanced. In Windows 7, click the Advanced settings link. 3. On the Monitor tab, uncheck Hide modes that this monitor cannot display: 33

34 CRT Display Configuration 4. Click OK, then continue to click OK on each dialog until the Display Properties dialog is dismissed. 5. Right click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. 6. If prompted, select Advanced view. 7. Select Set up multiple displays: 34

39 CRT Display Configuration 10. Set the desired Display resolution and Refresh rate for the first CRT, and click Apply. A refresh rate of 100 Hz or higher is recommended for stereo viewing. 11. Repeat for the second CRT, if present. Some configurations may not yield the refresh rate that is desired even after disabling the option shown on the previous screenshot. In that case, you must create a Custom monitor configuration. To do this: 39

Otherwise you can try a lower resolution and/or refresh rate, keeping in mind that for stereo viewing you will want a refresh rate of at least 100 Hz. 43

51 S E C T I O N 7 Tips for Optimum Stereo Performance Stereo views must not span monitors. Stretching a stereo view across two monitors will disable hardware acceleration on the graphics card, severely impacting roam performance. View windows must not overlap each other, as this can significantly affect the "smoothness" of the roaming. Do not allow dialog boxes or menus to overlap any views while roaming, as this can also affect roaming. ISSD does not support the use of shared cells nor nested cells (cells created from another cell or cells). The presence of these types of cells in the DGN file can cause unexpected behavior in the stereo display. In the case of shared cells, users should turn off the levels associated with these cells prior to activating a stereo view. Nested cells can be tolerated if the user sets the MicroStation view to "top" (vi=top) prior to making the view a stereo view. Stereo views in ImageStation Stereo Display and ImageStation Stereo for GeoMedia cannot be resized or moved. You must disable stereo in these views, configure them as desired, and then re-enable stereo. By default ISSD will display MicroStation custom linestyles at all times but this can hinder roam performance. If you would like to disable the display of custom linestyles in roam you can create a String Value in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ZI Imaging\ISSD\UserPreferences called InhibitLineStylesDuringRoam and set the value to "1." The first time stereo is activated after logging in, any stereo application that spans two monitors will be truncated to the primary monitor. Consequently, window layouts must be reconfigured. This issue can be avoided by displaying any image with Rasview (from ImageStation Raster Utilities) to trigger the stereo initialization after logging in. To enable this trigger in Rasview, each user must create a registry entry by executing the text below in a registry batch file (ex: filename.reg): Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intergraph\ImageDisplayerLT] "AllowStereoHw"=dword: To achieve the best performance when running stereo applications in Windows 7 you must disable both Desktop composition and Aero. To disable desktop composition: 1. Open the Control Panel. 2. Click View >> Small Icons. 51

52 Tips for Optimum Stereo Performance 3. Click Performance Information and Tools. 4. Click Adjust visual effects. 5. On the Visual Effects tab activate the Adjust for best performance option. 6. Click OK. To disable Aero: 1. Right click on the desktop and select Personalize. 2. Click on any one of the "Basic and High Contrast Themes." 52

53 Tips for Optimum Stereo Performance The NVIDIA driver control panel has an option for Stereoscopic 3D. This option is not necessary for use with ImageStation applications and should be disabled when running in Windows 7. This option gets enabled automatically when running in Windows 8.1 and cannot be disabled, but it won't disrupt the ImageStation applications. 53
