INTERNAL ASSESSMENT TEST 1 Date : Max Marks : 50 Subject & Code : C# Programming and.net & 10CS761 Section : VII CSE A & C Name of faculty : Mrs. Shubha Raj K B Time : to 1PM 1. a What are the building blocks of.net platform? Briefly explain the role of each. 5 building blocks of.net : CLR, CTS, and CLS CLR: The primary role of the CLR is to locate, load, and manage.net types on your behalf. The CLR also takes care of a number of low level details such as automatic memory management, language integration, and ensuring type safety. CTS: The CTS fully describes all possible data types and programming constructs supported by the runtime, specifies how these entities can interact with each other and details how they are represented in the.net metadata format. CLS: The Common Language Specification (CLS) is a set of rules that define a subset of common types and programming constructs that all.net programming languages can agree on. Thus, if you build.net types that only expose CLS compliant features, you can rest assured that all.net aware languages could make use of your types. Conversely, if you make use of a data type or programming construct that is outside of the CLS, you cannot guarantee that every.net programming language can interact with your binary code library
b Illustrate the work flow that take place between source code, given.net compiler and the.net execution engine 2 c Explain the concept of assembly. What are its contents? 2 When a *.dll or *.exe has been created using a.net-aware compiler, the binary blob is termed as assembly. Assembly contains CIL, Metadata and manifest. An assembly contains CIL code, which is conceptually similar to Java bytecode in that it is not compiled to platform specific instructions until absolutely necessary. Metadata that describes in vivid detail the characteristics of every type living within the binary. The manifest contains information about the current version of the assembly, culture information (used for localizing string and image resources), and a list of all externally referenced assemblies that are required for proper execution.
2 a Explain the different method access modifiers with examples 6 // Arguments are passed by value by default. public static int Add(int x, int y) int ans = x + y; // Caller will not see these changes as you are modifying a copy of the //original data. x = 10000; y = 88888; return ans; int x = 9, y = 10; Console.WriteLine("Before call: X: 0, Y: 1", x, y); Console.WriteLine("Answer is: 0", Add(x, y)); Console.WriteLine("After call: X: 0, Y: 1", x, y); the values of x and y remain identical before and after the call to Add().
Out Modifier Add() method that returns the sum of two integers using the C# out modifier note the physical return value of this method is now void // Output parameters are allocated by the member. public static void Add(int x, int y, out int ans) ans = x + y; // No need to assign local output variables. int ans; Add(90, 90, out ans); Console.WriteLine(" = 0 ", ans); // Returning multiple output parameters. public static void FillTheseValues(out int a, out string b, out bool c) a = 9; b = "Enjoy your string."; c = true; int i; string str; bool b; FillTheseValues(out i, out str, out b); Console.WriteLine("Int is: 0", i); Console.WriteLine("String is: 0", str); Console.WriteLine("Boolean is: 0", b); REF PARAMETERS public static void SwapStrings(ref string s1, ref string s2)
string tempstr = s1; s1 = s2; s2 = tempstr; string s = "First string"; string s2 = "My other string"; Console.WriteLine("Before: 0, 1 ", s, s2); SwapStrings(ref s, ref s2); Console.WriteLine("After: 0, 1 ", s, s2); PARAMS MODIFIERS // Return average of 'some number' of doubles. static double CalculateAverage(params double[] values) double sum = 0; for (int i = 0; i < values.length; i++) sum += values[i]; return (sum / values.length); // Pass in a comma-delimited list of doubles... double average; average = CalculateAverage(4.0, 3.2, 5.7); Console.WriteLine("Average of 4.0, 3.2, 5.7 is: 0", average); //...or pass an array of doubles. double[] data = 4.0, 3.2, 5.7 ; average = CalculateAverage(data); Console.WriteLine("Average of data is: 0", average); Console.ReadLine();
b Write a C# program to accept three numbers from command line, and print the biggest number 4 using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace Biggest3no class Program for (int i = 0; i < args.length; i++) Console.WriteLine("Arg: 0 ", args[i]); int x = Convert.ToInt32(args[0]); int y = Convert.ToInt32(args[1]); int z = Convert.ToInt32(args[2]); if (x > y && x > z) Console.WriteLine("X is biggest"); else if (y > x && y > z) Console.WriteLine("y is biggest"); else Console.WriteLine("z is biggest"); 3 a What are C# preprocessor directives? 1 b List all the C# preprocessor directives that are supported 3
c Write a code snippet to illustrate C# preprocessor directives? 3+3
4 a Give the difference between value types and reference types and shallow copy and deep copy? 8+2
By default, when a value type contains other reference types, assignment results in a copy of the references. In this way, you have two independent structures, each of which contains a reference pointing to the same object in memory (i.e., a shallow copy ). When you want to perform a deep copy, where the state of internal references is fully copied into a new object. 5 a Explain boxing and Unboxing with practical examples. Boxing means conversion of a value type on the stack to a object type on the heap. Unboxing: Conversion of object type to a value type is know as unboxing. Boxing int m=100; 5
object o=m; // creates a box to hold m OR object o=(object)m; unboxing int n=(int)o;// unbox o back to an int byte b=(byte)o; // runtime error NOTE: value type should be large enough to hold the value b Write a program to compute and display the average of 3 numbers with input taken from the console 5 using System; class Program int x=0, y=0, z=0, avg = 0; Console.WriteLine(">>> PROGRAM TO FIND AVERAGE OF 3 NUMBERS <<< "); Console.WriteLine("\n Enter the first number "); x=convert.toint32(console.readline()); // taking x value from keyboard Console.WriteLine("\n Enter the second number "); y = Convert.ToInt32(Console.ReadLine()); // taking y value from keyboard Console.WriteLine("\n Enter the second number "); z = Convert.ToInt32(Console.ReadLine()); // taking z value from keyboard avg = (x + y + z) / 3; Console.WriteLine("\n The avearge of 3 number is: 0 ",avg); * * * * * * *
