1 Chapter 1 : Olympus Pen EES manual If you find this manual useful, how about a donation of $3 to: M. Butkus, 29 Lake Ave., High Bridge, NJ and send your address so I can thank you. At its best it tells a whole story. But what if one frame at a time is not enough to tell the whole story? The build Olympus Pen EE-3 is my weapon of choice when it comes to half frame. The Pen EE-3 is a rugged little half frame camera. The EE-3 is an equipped with full automatic exposure. For flash photography, the aperture can be set manually. Upon depressing the shutter button halfway the meter measures if there is enough light. How it works can be seen in the following picture. The first one I took by pointing the Pen at the building. On the second one I pointed the camera a little downwards on the dark area on the building pressing the shutter button halfway, the framed the picture and pressing the button fully down. There is no fiddling around with controls, you just take a picture. That makes it a really Lomographic camera. When shooting with my Pen I rarely just take one picture at a time. When I would take just one with a full frame camera, I take two with the Pen. Half frame gives you a lot of creative possibilities. Turn the camera any angle you like. Take a second shot of the same subject. Works great with geometrical shapes. Line up your first shot. Wind, then frame the second shot according to what you memorized in the first. Take two shots of the same subject. One from away, on close-up. Or one from every side. You get the point. Tell a story within two or three pictures. The possibilities are endless: So if you want to try out half frame photography, the Olympus Pen EE-3 is a sure choice. Page 1
2 Chapter 2 : Free Olympus User Manuals blog.quintoapp.com The Olympus PEN EE-S possesses a super-sharp 4-element, 3-component D. Zuiko lens. Because this specially formulated wide angle lens makes such sharp images, PEN EE-S negatives may be enlarged without difficulty to any normal size up to 16" x 20". Many of these cameras had two shutter speeds. The higher speed was used with the built-in meter -- it was activated when the film speed was dialed in. Then the meter set the aperture automatically. The slower speed was designed for flash pictures -- it was activated when the aperture was set manually. This made the cameras much more versatile, since the flash option allowed the cameras to be used as a manual-exposure camera. The basic idea for this camera was to take the Pen and make a more automatic camera. There were two approaches to this. First, a meter was added to allow for automatic exposure. Just dial in the film speed and the selenium meter surrounding the lens set the correct aperture. The other "auto" feature was "automatic" focusing. This was achieved with a fixed-focus -- 28mm -- lens. Film speeds could be set from 10 - It came with a PC socket, but the flash shoe was not built-in. All other features were the same. This is a configuration that was used in several other Pens. Cosmetically it is difficult to tell the two models apart. The model I has a standard "leather-looking" leatherette on the body. The model II covering is a "basket-weave"-type, used on many other Pen cameras. Since the new meter surrounded the lens, a new dual-filter approach was used. The camera could use It had a 30mm f2. No flash shoe, but PC connector. So, the camera can be used in low-light situations by setting the dial to the aperture settings -- with or without a flash. Film speeds from 10 - Close focusing to 3 feet. It had a six element, 35mm, manually-focusing f2. Close-focusing was to 36 inches. It had a newly styled body that was not quite as small as the original Pen body. In part this was because it had a built in motor drive using two AA batteries. This was the first Japanese camera to have an electric motor film advance and rewind. Film speed could be set from ISO 10 - The original model did not have a flash shoe, but a later version apparently did. Page 2
3 Chapter 3 : Olympus Pen EE The Pen-o-tastic Half-Frame Camera  Lomography Home / Camera Manuals / Olympus Pen EE-S Instructions. Olympus Pen EE-S Instructions - English. In a very good condition as per photograph. Only 1 left in stock. General context[ edit ] The original Pen was introduced in It was designed by Yoshihisa Maitani, and was the first half-frame camera produced in Japan. It was one of the smallest cameras to use 35mm film in regular cassettes. It was thought to be as portable as a pen; thus the name[ citation needed ]. The idea was to be much copied by other Japanese makers. A series of derivatives followed, some easier to use with the introduction of exposure automation, e. However, Olympus went on producing the simpler models of the Pen family until at least In the descriptions below, the focal lengths indicated do not give the same angle of view as for full-frame cameras: Pen and Pen S[ edit ] The original Pen is a very compact half-frame camera, with just a viewfinder, no meter and fully manual settings. Its shutter settings are 25, 50,,, B; its aperture range from 3. The back is removed completely for film loading and unloading. The Pen S is almost the same camera, with the following shutter settings: The Pen D2, launched in, is the same model with an uncoupled CdS exposure meter replacing the selenium one. EE series[ edit ] The Pen EE was introduced in and was the amateur model, with fully automatic exposure and fixed focusing. The Pen EE family is easily recognized by the selenium meter window around the lens. S The Pen EE. S EL with a modification of the take-up spool to make film loading easier. EL stands for Easy Loading. You can only recognize them by a small label marked EL stuck on the front, or you can open them and look at the take-up spool. S2, produced from to, is the same as the Pen EE. S with the addition of a hot shoe. D The Pen EE. The Pen EF, launched in, was the last Pen model. It is like the Pen EE. It only exists in black finish, and has a cold flash shoe. The cameras were unique in using a rotary shutter. S and Pen Rapid EE. D were variants of the Pen EE. S and Pen EE. D designed to accept the Agfa Rapid cassette instead of the regular 35mm cassette. They were both made from to, and met very little success. For the most part, the E-P2 is identical to the E-P1 except it is available in all-black, and includes the ability to mount a high resolution electronic viewfinder. It also features two new art filters. The new port included for the electronic viewfinder can also be used for a microphone not included. The long-awaited Olympus E-P3 was announced on June 30,, to positive reviews. The most notable difference, aside from price, being the lack of a tilting screen on the Mini. The E-P5 is relatively bigger, and has the more advanced 5-axis sensor stabilization. All three use the same Sony 16 megapixel sensor as the OM-D camera. The most recent introduction is the PEN E-PL7 that ties together the same technology and image quality as the more traditional looking relative, the OM-D E-M10, with more trend related features such as a tilt down LCD to make taking a " selfie " that much easier. The app will show a live preview of your image via a wifi connection to the camera and let you control a host of camera functions from zoom to new art filters before you take the shot which will then download to your smartphone to let you post on social media. The company is positioning the PEN very much as an attractive but very capable system camera that will appeal to people who are a bit more ambitious about their photography than even the latest smartphones will allow. 4 Chapter 4 : Olympus Pen EE-S Instructions - Milly's Cameras We charge only once per order for postage and packing. The total for your order will be: $ All orders are despatched the day we receive them and should be with you within 10 days. Instructions for this magnificent camera are simplicity itself. There is only one setting you have to make, except for setting the zone-focussing dial. That setting is made when the film is loaded into the camera. The setting stays the same throughout the entire roll of film. When you take pictures, set the Focussing Ring at one of the three zone marks. When the film is inserted, look at the instructions in the film box to determine the ASA number. One motion thumb wind at camera rear Shutter: Fold down rewind crank type lever Dimensions: No special film is necessary. The film is processed in the same way, through the same places that other 35mm film is processed. Turn it in the direction of the arrow shown above. Then grasp the camera body with the left hand, the camera back with the right hand, and gently slide the camer back DOWN in the direction of the arrow shown in the centre photo above. Be sure the sprockets on the sprocket spool engage the perforations in the film. Move the film slightly if necessary, or turn the rewind lever slightly to take up film slack. Replace the camera back and lock it securely. Wind the film once and release the shutter buttton. During this 1st wind, the film is being engaged in the sprocket spool, and the rewind lever will move in the same direction the film is moving. This is normal, and shows proper loading. Wind and expose the film three more times. Whenever you wind the film, be sure you wind it all the way. Never wind it half way or part way, but all the way. Place your thumb on the knurled round indicator, and turn until the triangle points to either 72 or If you are using a 36 exposure roll, set the triangle to point to If you are using a 20 exposure roll, set the triangle to point to If the pointer points to 27, for example, that means you can still take 27 more pictures on that roll of film. Self-Cocking Shutter When the film is completely wound for the next picture, two operations take place automatically. The film is moved to the next frame and the shutter is cocked, ready for release. You need only press the release button to make an exposure. The Film Winding Roller should be rolled all the way until it stops. If not, the shutter will not operate. Do not wind the film immediately after you have taken a picture. Wait until you are ready for the next picture, and wind the film just before making the next exposure. This enables the the shutter springs to last and remain accurate indefinately. Simply place the subject matter in the centre of the frame. The frame limits are within the white outline shown in the finder. For action shots, watch the subject and click the shutter when the subject is within the white frame. The electric eye and red flasher operates automatically at all ASA film speed settings as shown on the ASA ring in white numbers. An ultra-sensitive built-in electric eye surrounds the lens. Focusing The Focusing Ring is marked with three zones For portrait.
