Naturopathic microscopy involves the analysis of live and dry blood samples in brightfield and darkfield, each with its own set of unique microscope requirements. The NGS range of microscope systems, by Neogenesis Systems, have been designed to meet all the necessary requirements for naturopathic microscopy. 3 Microscope Base Assembly NGS blood analysis microscopes are manufactured from durable, highquality materials and designed for optimal user comfort. The microscope base unit includes a large, integrated stage (movement range: 76x50mm; stage size: 160x140mm) with low position co-axial controls; a field iris diaphragm; a quintuple, inward-facing nosepiece for 5 objectives; focus stage lock and limit control with tension adjuster; special analysis wavelength filter holder and filters; co-axial coarse and fine focus with durable brass gear assembly. Illumination For high quality, even illumination in brightfield and darkfield, the top-ofthe-range NGS blood analysis systems are fitted with a specialised LED illumination system. This features the latest technology in true-white LED systems. Itprovides high-intensity white light that is fully dimmable. With the long lifespan of LED systems of up to 25 years, the system is virtually maintenance-free. The LED illumination is built into the base of the microscope, making the microscope more convenient to transport. The entry-level model features 12V/50W Halogen Koehler illumination, with a separate power supply and a rear-mounted lamp box. This provides sufficient illumination for brightfield and darkfield applications.

4 Interchangeable Condensers Condensers are specialised lenses located under the stage of the microscope that concentrate the light and transmits it through the sample. The NGS blood analysis system features two interchangeable condensers: an Abbe brightfield condenser and an oil darkfield condenser. Changing from bright field to darkfield is done by simply removing the one condenser and snapping the other into place. The condenser assembly has been designed to ensure ease of use and durability. Brightfield Condenser The system features an achromatic compound Abbe brightfield condenser, with built-in iris diaphragm (NA: 1.25). Dark Field (Oil) Condenser To ensure the sharpest, clearest darkfield image, where all the dark field anomalies can be detected, the system features an oil-type darkfield condenser.

5 Trinocular Head A Siedentof trinocular head is fitted to the blood analysis system, featuring two 10X (20X optional) widefield eyepieces and a video tube equipped with a USB digital camera. The trinocular head utilises a sliding prism to relay the image from the eyepieces to the video camera. The video tube is equipped with a 40X optical magnification system, which increases the image displayed onthe monitor by 40X. This is achieved by optical zoom, resulting in a high-quality image that does not exhibit the pixilation seen indigitally zoomed images. The magnification results in a much larger image being displayed on the monitor, thereby increasing the effective magnification range of the microscope 4 times. It also allows the user to achieve a higher degree of magnification on the monitor with a normal dry 40X objective (1600X) than what is achieved with a 100X oil objective (1000X) in other systems. A total magnification of 4000X can then be achieved using the 100X oil objective.

6 Objectives A very important element determining the quality of a microscope system is the quality of objectives used. The NGS range of microscope systems feature high-end plan achromatic objectives. Whilst achromatic objectives correct the colour and achieve a flat image in the central 65% of the field, plan achromatic objectives ensure optimal correction of chromatic and spherical aberration and results in a clear, flat image in the central 95% of the field. Thefollowing 5 objectives are supplied as the standard configuration and are suitable for both brightfield and darkfield viewing applications: 4X Plan Achromatic Objective (NA: 0.10) 10X Plan Achromatic Objective (NA: 0.25) 20X Plan Achromatic Objective (NA: 0.40) 40X Plan Achromatic Objective (NA: 0.65) (Spring) 100X Plan Achromatic Objective (NA: ) (Oil) (Spring with iris diaphragm) * * This is a specialised darkfield objective not seen in normal laboratory microscope systems.

7 4000x Maximum Magnification The video tube of the microscope provides additional magnification to the screen, resulting in 1600X magnification when the 40X objective is used, and a ground-breaking 4000X magnification with the 100X objective in place. This is especially helpful with live blood analysis as the ideal level of magnification is achieved without having to employ digital magnification through the camera. Standard Definition Camera Standard definition USB 2.0 cameras offer a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 (at 15 frames per second). These cameras are compatible with Windows, MAC (OS X) and Linux. The software allows the user to record video clips and save still images for record keeping purposes. Designed with ease of use in mind, these cameras are easy to install and operate. High Definition Imaging System The HD USB3.0 digital camera is the obvious choice when the absolute best quality video resolution is required. The high definition USB 3.0 camera provides full HD, with a maximum resolution of 2048x1534 (at 27.3 frames per second). These cameras are compatible with Windows, MAC (OS X) and Linux. The software allows the user to record video clips and save still images for record keeping purposes. Designed with ease of use in mind, these cameras are easy to install and operate.

8 Blood Analysis System Options There are four darkfield / brightfield microscope models to choose from, based on the type of illumination and camera. All are suitable for naturopathic microscopy, although LED illumination and HD-imaging are superior to halogen illumination and standard definition. 1. 9 The Best Choice Any of the NGS blood analysis packages will enable you to use blood analysis to its full potential. However, the HD-LED system offers a number of key advantages over the other systems. The LED lamp system has a very long lifespan of up to 25years. Unlike the halogen-based systems, the LED system is virtually maintenance-free, with no light bulb replacements required. LED light creates no heat, which is safer for the microscope and user and allows for the system to be more compact and lighter. LED illumination is energy efficient (9W LED vs 50W halogen) The LED system is brighter than the 50W halogen system. The 9W LED is equivalent to 90W halogen. LED systems are not sensitive to movement, whereas bumps during movement of a halogen system can reduce the lifespan ofthe light bulb. The colour and intensity of an LED system remains constant during its life, whilst halogen systems tend to move to the red end of the spectrum as they age (referred to as colour drift) and they lose a degree of brightness. LED systems provide pure white light, whilst halogen systems require daylight correction. The high-definition USB3.0 camera features a higher frame rate and resolution than the standard USB2.0 camera. When viewing blood samples on a large screen there is significantly less pixellation with a HDcamera.

10 Don't Compromise on Quality Although most microscopes essentially work on similar principles, there is a great degree of variation in optical configurations, illumination and ultimately image quality. Live blood analysis in darkfield is a highly specialised technique, requiring a very particular set of specifications. A suitable optical and illumination assembly must be in place to ensure the best results in viewing live blood in darkfield. Any compromise in the setup of the system will result in an inferior image and the user not being able to detect all the important anomalies. 12 A Clear Advantage in High Magnification The NGS series of blood analysis microscopes feature an industry-leading 100X oil immersion objective with a built-in iris diaphragm. This is a specialised objective for high magnification darkfield analysis, where a clear and contrasted image is essential. Since other 100X objectives lack a built-in iris diaphragm, the amount of light transmitted through the objective cannot be controlled, resulting in blurry and unclear images.
