MINIPULS D160 PLUS IS THE FIRST COMPACT FLASH UNIT THAT CAN BE OPERATED EITHER DIRECTLY FROM A MACINTOSH OR PC, FROM INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL OR THE FRONT PANEL. High light output. The Minipuls D160 plus delivers 1200 J of flash energy, yielding an f-stop of f:64 7/10 at ISO 100 with the P50 reflector at 2 metres (6 1 /2 ft.). The bright halogen modelling light can be adjusted, with push button ease, proportionally to other broncolor compact flash units and power packs and their various output levels. Remote control. Minipuls D160 plus compact flash units include a two-channel infrared receiver for flash triggering with the IRX 2 and IRQ transmitters or FCM 2 and FCC light meters. Using the Servor e infrared remote control, main functions such as flash energy, modelling light, photocell etc. can be controlled remotely; this allows the flash units themselves to be ceiling-mounted, thus optimizing the available working space in your studio. Controllable with a Macintosh or PC. Electronic image processing is becoming an increasingly important part of professional photography. With the Minipuls D160 plus, it is now possible to enter any necessary lighting corrections directly on the screen: all the functions of this compact flash unit can be controlled from your Macintosh or PC via the interface connector cable. Ample memory for notes. In the direct computer control mode, four memory locations are available for storing lighting situations (memory function). To simplify work, each unit on the screen can be assigned with a function designation (e. g. main light, backlight etc.). Convenient operation. The control range is over 5 f-stops, in 1/10 f-stop increments, so that light can be precisely adjusted in even the trickiest situations. The output display (in f-stops) appears on the front panel and on both sides of the unit, and is easy to read even in a darkened studio. The illuminated silicone keypad on the front panel is used to control output and select the modelling light, and to switch the photocell and infrared receiver on and off. The microprocessor control system integrates additional functions such as selection of trigger delay times as short as 0.01 s, flash sequences and addresses for the infrared remote controls and infrared channel. Compatibility and system. The Minipuls D160 plus is a logical step forward in broncolor flash technology, and fits perfectly into the existing broncolor system. With the patented Pulso bayonet, broncolor reflectors can be quickly interchanged. Excellent light quality. Light quality depends not only on the quality of the light shaper being used, but also on the precision with which the flash unit controls its output. Minipuls D160 plus flash units regulate extremely exactly flash energy due to a special control software. This repetitive accuracy is particularly important when creating electronic images using 3-shot digital cameras: since obvious colour shifts will occur if the quantity of light for each of the three exposures is not absolutely identical. Minipuls D160 plus ensures that in digital photography as well, photographers always get consistent light quality with every shot. 2

3 Better halogen modelling light. The broncolor Minipuls D160 plus also offers new and practical solutions for modelling light. Of course the modelling light is automatically proportional over the entire output range. Six different proportionality levels (Prop numbers), compatible with any broncolor power pack or compact flash unit, let you easily combine different broncolor light sources without tedious calculations. The procedure is simple: set the same Prop number on each unit, and the modelling light is always automatically proportional (a higher Prop number corresponds to a brighter modelling light). For shots with a view camera using a long bellows extension and filters, the modelling light can also be set to full output to help you evaluate the ground-glass image. The modelling light can also be set to dim automatically during charging, in order to minimize the load on weak mains (ACline) supplies. 4 Select exactly when the flash fires. The delay function on Minipuls D160 plus lets you select any delay time from 0.1 to 9.9 seconds between shutter release and flash firing. This makes mixedlighting shots easier and more accurate, for example if you need to shoot a moving person in artificial light or daylight with a wipe effect, and then freeze the movement with flash. The flash firing point can be precisely co-ordinated with the moment of shutter release. In addition, the Minipuls D160 plus can be triggered by an acoustic signal or a light barrier, for example when taking an image of a falling object. You can select how long the flash waits to fire after the object has passed through the barrier. The delay function allows precise control of flash timing, and in many cases helps reduce wasted film. Flash sequences. For special effects and multiple flashes, the broncolor Minipuls D160 plus offers the ability to program a specific number of flashes (from 1 to 50). Minipuls D160 the Minipuls D160 plus without computer connection. If you don t (yet) need a computer connection, you still needn t do without broncolor s top-of-the-range compact flash unit: the Minipuls D160 offers the same technical capabilities as the Minipuls D160 plus, just without the computer connection. It also has no memories for lighting situations, but does offer two sync sockets. If you do decide later to begin working with a computer, the Minipuls D160 can easily be upgraded to a Minipuls D160 plus. An upgrade kit to Minipuls D160 plus is available for owners of the Minipuls D160 compact flash unit, consisting of the interface, an adapter cable and a data medium with software in German, English and French. Additional minor hardware modifications are required, and can be performed by broncolor customer service staff. 4
