1 The Media Center Mission The Media Center is responsible for ensuring access to basic media equipment and services for the purpose of fostering experimentation among student artists and enhancing the overall educational experience at SAIC. IRFM operates three Media Center circulation facilities, located in the Michigan, Sharp and Columbus buildings. Each Media Center provides access for students, faculty, and staff to a wide range of circulating audio-visual equipment (video cameras, decks, lighting, projectors, audio recorders and monitors), technology based instructional facilities and labs. The Media Centers circulate equipment that can be used in the classroom, studio, exhibition space and at home for both instructional and art production purposes. Resources are categorized as General (any valid patron can access), Authorized (training workshop is required) or Departmental (must be enrolled in a specific class/department). Authorization workshops are offered weekly, after add/drop, during the Fall and Spring semesters and do not expire. Allow at least fifteen minutes for the equipment checkout process at the Media Center window. It is required that you test digital still and video cameras before you leave the Media Center. It is recommended that you thoroughly examine equipment and test light kits before leaving. This is to ensure that you leave with working equipment. Please allow extra time for checkouts including these items. Equipment may be reserved in advanced for a scheduled pickup time. Reservations are held for thirty minutes past your scheduled pickup time, then released. You may renew your checkout up to three times. When you call the Media Center to renew, you must allow one hour before your scheduled return time, just in case the equipment is unavailable for renewal at that time. When returning equipment, wait until your checkout is cleared from the computer before leaving, as staff may have questions for you. The Media Center assesses fines for late equipment return, abuse, damage and loss of equipment. You will not be able to borrow SAIC equipment if you have an unpaid fine. Avoid fines by verifying that all information as printed on your agreement form is correct at the time of checkout. Fines may be paid at the Media Center by using your ARTICard or at the Bursar s office by cash, check or credit card. NOTE: All information contained within is subject to change.
