Light bulbs are typically classified as full spectrum when they have a CRI (color rendering index) above 90 and a Kelvin temperature of Relative Response 100% = Spectral Radiance 436 nm Glossary Focal Length The distance from a point where the image of a distance object is formed (focal point) to a point in or near the lens Green Glass Non optical, standard very low resolution, not recommended for long term industrial use due to eye fatigue and clarity Iris Diaphragm An opaque disc with an opening which can be expanded or contracted, like the iris of the eye. This produces a large range of openings to meet different conditions Lens A transparent object (made of optical glass, fluorite, or quartz, etc.) having two polished surfaces which at least one is curved, usually with a spherical curvature. It is shaped so that the rays of light on passing through it are made to converge or to diverge. Magnification An enlargement of an object by an optical element or instrument. It is the ratio of the size of the image to the actual size of the object under observations Magnification Power to Diopter Double Convex Power = 10/F.L. + 1 (eyesight) Therefore a 3 diopter lens /3 = 3 diopter. is /3 =.75X + 1 = 1.75X. Focal Length Focal Point Magnifying Power times or X or power A measure of the ability of a lens or combination of lenses to make an object appear larger. It is the number of times the image seen through the instrument is larger than the object appears to the unaided eye Optical Glass Glass carefully manufactured to obtain controlled index of refraction and dispersion, purity, transparency, homegenelty and workability Prism A transparent body (made of optical glass, fluorite, or quartz, etc.) with at least two polished planes faces inclined toward each other from which light is reflected Reflection The return of light from an optical surface Stereoscopic Vision Binocular vision which enables the observer to view an object and obtain mental impression of three dimensional objects How to par focal a microscope Turn the both diopter ring 2 to 0 and zoom knob 6 to 4.2X, observe with your right eye and turn the focus adjustment knob 8 to make the image a specimen clear, then observe with your left eye and adjust it s diopter, no adjusting focus adjustment knob 8, to make the image of specimen clear. Turn the zoom knob 6 from 4.2X to 0.7X, if the image isn t clear, you should observe the left and right eyepiece tube 4 with respective eye and adjust respective diopter to make image clear, then turn the zoom knob 8 to 4.2X again, if the image isn t clear too, you should adjust the focus adjustment know to make the image clear. According to the adjustment above, you can obtain a clear and continuous image from 4.2X to 0.7x. Page 14

16 WARRANTY* Five Years On Light Sources Five Years On Microscopes PROLITE, warrants its products to be free from defective material and workmanship. Any product or parts thereof which are determined by PROLITE to be defective within five years from date of shipment will be replaced or repaired at our option. All electrical components have a one year unconditional guarantee. This warranty specifically excludes optical filters and all incandescent, fluorescent, and quartz-halogen bulbs. Any products which in our opinion have been subject to misuse, neglect, incorrect wiring, or where installation procedures are not in accordance with the instruction manual, are excluded from this warranty. Nor does this warranty extend to products on which repairs or alterations have been made outside the factory, or on which the identification or serial number has been altered or to accessories not of our manufacture. Our obligation with respect to products or parts covered by this warranty shall be limited to repair or replacement, F.O.B. Three Rivers, Massachusetts. In no event shall PROLITE be held liable for consequential or special damages, or for transportation, installation, adjustment, other expenses which may arise in connection with such products or parts.
