4 1 Introduction This User Guide provides a brief introduction and instruction on how to use Evaluaton board ROA This board provides the possibility to evaluate parallel operation of up to seven BMR 46 or BMR 464 (all operated products must be of same type). The ROA board is a part of the E Design Kit. 1.1 How to contact Ericsson For general questions or interest in our products, please contact your local sales representative. Send to: e-support@ericsson.com 1.2 Prerequisites In order to operate the ROA board the following is needed: supply 5-14 V. One or more BMR or BMR products. PMBus-to-USB adaptor Ericsson KEP or Intersil ZLUSBREF02. The E GUI Gold Edition software package and a compatible Windows PC. 6 Position Description 1a Input voltage connector. 1b Input voltage connector GND. 1c High power Input voltage connector. 1d High power input voltage connector GND. 2a Output voltage connector. 2b Output voltage connector GND. 2c High power output voltage connector. 2d High power output voltage connector GND. Positions (1-7) for BMR 46/BMR 464. The output of all connected products will be tied together. 4 Male/female board-to-board connectors. Connectors are used to connect the board to other E evaluation boards. All interconnected boards are sharing the same PMBus and Sync signals. Only one PMBus-to-USB adaptor is needed. 5 RC switch. 6a 6b Output voltage test points. Recommended for best accuracy. Output voltage test points. 7 Input voltage test points. 8 Digital signals test points. The digital signals include: 9a 9b PMBus signals SDA, SCL and SALERT. These connect to each product, to PMBus-to-USB adaptor connectors and to board-to-board connectors. SYNC signal. Connects to each product and to board-to-board connectors. CTRL_PMBus signal. Connects to board-to-board connectors and to the RC switch. Connector for the Ericsson KEP PMBus-to-USB adaptor. It is found on reverse side of the board. 7 PMBus/USB Adaptors Two types of PMBus/USB adaptors can be used: Ericsson KEP PMBusto-USB adaptor and Intersil ZLUSBREF02 PMBus-to-USB adaptor..1 Connection of Ericsson KEP PMBus-to-USB adaptor Connect the Ericsson KEP PMBus-to-USB adaptor as shown in Figure 2. 9 4 -up and -down Instructions 4.1 -up instruction Mount the BMR46x products into desired positions ( pos 1-7, see Figure 1). Turn the RC switch (5, see Figure 1) in OFF position. Connect and turn on 5-14 V supply (1a-d, see Figure 1). Connect the PMBus adaptor/cable. Start the necessary software program in order to perform re-configuration required to operate the products in parallel. After re-configuration of products, cycle the 5-14 V. Turn the RC switch (5, see Figure 1) in ON position. When a product has started up properly, the Good LED will give green light. (see Figure 1). Note: If a PMBus-to-USB adaptor is connected to the board, the LED:s will give continuous light in positions were no products are mounted. Note: It is required that a PMBus-to-USB adaptor is connected to the board during operation, since the voltage, VI2C, provided by the adaptor is used as pullup voltage for the GCB bus used for current sharing. Note: When the RC switch is in ON position, the products are actually controlled by the CTRL PMBus signal present in the board-to-board connectors and the connector for Ericsson KEP PMBus-to-USB adaptor (see Figure 4). If the CTRL_PMBus signal is not driven, the products will be turned on due to internal pull-up on the CTRL pin. OFF GND CTRL pin of each product RC switch ON CTRL_PMBus Figure 4. 10 Note: Some versions of the evaluation board do not include the VI2C pull-up voltage in the board-to-board connectors. This can affect the PMBus and/or GCB communication when connecting several evaluation boards. To avoid this, the VI2C voltage of boards should be connected using a piece of wire between the VI2C terminals of PMBus adapter connectors. Note: Some versions of the evaluation board do not include the GCB signal in the board-to-board connectors. It results in GCB based functions such as sequencing and fault spreading will not work properly if those functions involve devices placed on different evaluation boards. To avoid this, the GCB pins of devices on the different boards should be connected using a piece of wire down instruction Turn RC switch in OFF position or turn off the 5-14 V Supply. 11 5 Address and Vout Range Resistors This section describes the locations of the Address and Vout range pinstrap resistors. For exact resistor value see the technical specification of each product. 12 5.1 Changing address and Vout range resistors BMR 46/464 adjustment of address resistors and Vout range resistors To change the address in a position, change the corresponding resistors as shown in Figure 6.
