July 2003 I- Terminal Description 1- Introduction The ELITE 790 is a portable payment terminal for a radio transmission module (voice + data) using the GSM standard and a modem for PSTN communications. This terminal was created to process all payments made by magnetic or smart cards. The ELITE 790 has an integrated thermal printer which prints two copies of each receipt. The ELITE 790 terminal benefits from a modular conception, which allows a number of different applications to run on the terminal independently without jeopardising software security. Your retailer or installer will be able to give you the necessary information on all available applications and their installation details. 5

ELITE 790 Terminal 2- The Terminal The terminal case contains the following elements: The portable terminal and base. A cable that connects the terminal to a telephone line. A power pack that connects the terminal to a 115 or 230 volt power point (depending on the country) 3- The Terminal Connections There are two connectors on the back of the terminal. (See page 4) The blue jack is for portable hands free kit. The black connector is suitable for a peripheral device like a barcode scanner, for which a specific software application is required. 4- The Base Connections 0 Telephone Connection The compact telephone cable connection supplied with the Elite terminal must be connected to the port marked with the symbol. The telephone connection (RJ11) must be connected to the telephone socket in the wall. 0 Electrical Connection The small jack connection to the power pack is plugged into the port marked with the symbol. The twin pronged electrical plug is connected to an electrical point (115 or 220 volts, depending on the country). Only use the power supply pack provided with the terminal. Telephone line Power Supply 0 Connection to an external peripheral device Some peripheral devices such as a cheque readers can also be connected. The ELITE 790 terminal must be powered off before connecting the cable on the base to the RS232 port. Serial port 6

July The Keyboard - Utilisation The 2 key gives the operator access to all of the different menus on the terminal including the system menu which manages the standard functions of the Elite 790, such as: modification of the date and the time, modification of download and line parameters. The 3 and 4 keys allow navigation through scrolling application menus and the system menu. During vocal use of the terminal, these keys adjust the volume. The key 7 prompts a paper feed of a couple of centimetres. This function is only active when the terminal is in the idle state. The A key is used to validate any information read by or entered into the terminal. It is also the power switch when the terminal is in portable mode. The B key cancels the occurring command after which, it returns the terminal to idle state. The C key deletes the last character entered, and in certain cases is used where an override is requested. The key marked d can only be used for entering amounts ; more specifically it allows the operator to enter amounts in cents. The navigation wheel has the same function as the following 3 keys 2 Push up the navigation wheel 3 Turn the wheel up 4 Turn the wheel down 7

ELITE 790 Terminal 6- The Card Reader 0 Magnetic Stripe Card The card can be read when swiped either from right to left, or left to right. The magnetic stripe on the card should face the printer and the card should be swiped through the reader freely and without hesitation. 0 Card Introduce the card horizontally into the terminal, the chip facing up, as indicated and leave the card in position until the transaction is complete. 7- Wireless functionality The ELITE 790 terminal is portable ; A fully charged battery will perform 100 transactions before the terminal has to be returned to the base for charging. The symbol on the upper right hand side of the display indicates a correct connection between the terminal and the base. A low battery is indicated by a message «-BAT-» on the display followed by a beep. Within one hour of this message appearing, the battery pack must be recharged. The terminal can perform a few transactions in this time. Warning Do not use a fast charge if the terminal is returned to the base after each transaction. The batteries may be damaged and their lifetime reduced. A fast charge battery should only be charged when empty. If the terminal is placed on the charger after each transaction, a slow charge must be used to protect the battery. In portable mode, the ELITE 790 terminal will switch to power save mode after 50 seconds of inactivity or if the B key is pressed. The name of the network, to which the terminal is registered, appears on the display and a graph indicates the RSSI (Reception Signal Strength Indicator). 8 Warning When the terminal is powered off, the GSM standby mode (to receive incoming calls) uses battery power, reducing the number of transactions between charge-ups.

July 2003 When the terminal is switched on, the following messages could appear on the terminal display: INACTIVE GSM MISSING SIM BLOCKED SIM NO GSM SERVICE NETWORK SEARCH POWER SAVE MODE A problem is encountered with the GSM module. If after having removed the battery pack a few times the same message appears then consult the terminal issuer. This message appears if the SIM is invalid or not correctly inserted. This message appears if SIM blocked or if the PUK has been entered incorrectly 10 times. Invalid SIM card or service not available. Contact your retailer. This message appears while the terminal is searching for a network. Once the terminal has found it, this message is replaced by the operator name. When the power save mode is selected. Warning Before using the terminal for the first time, the batteries must be fully charged. This is indicated by a green light on the base which goes out when this process is complete. 9

July 2003 IV- Practical Information 1- Charging the battery pack A base station is provided with the terminal which recharges the standalone battery pack or the terminal when placed on the base station. The green indicator at front at the base indicates that a current is flowing into the battery pack. Warning Before using the terminal for the first time, the batteries must be fully charged. This is indicated by a green light on the base which goes out when this process is complete. 0 Fast charging base Warning Do not use a fast charge if the terminal is returned to the base after each transaction. The batteries may be damaged and their lifetime reduced. A fast charge battery should only be charged when empty. If the terminal is placed on the charger after each transaction, a slow charge must be used to protect the battery. The charge is managed in order to optimise the life of your battery pack and to charge it as quickly as possible in the best conditions. If the terminal is removed from the base for more than 10 seconds, the charge cycle is reinitiated. If it is removed for less than 10 seconds, the charge cycle continues. Do not forget to put the terminal down on its powered base at the end of the day in order to allow for charging and data-collection. During the charging of empty battery pack, it could take one or two minutes for the green light to come on. 0 Vehicle base This base station is used when the terminal is supposed to be laid on its base between each transaction. It uses slow charge so as not to damage the battery. 25

ELITE 790 Terminal 2- Cleaning Procedures The plastic used in the construction of this terminal may be damaged if cleaned with strong solvents. The following is a list of recommendations for cleaning the terminal and its base. Clean the outside of the terminal with a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent solution. Never spray cleaning solution directly onto the terminal as liquid may enter the unit. The smart card reader does not normally require cleaning, but if it does, the magnetic card reader cleaning kit can be used. Do not use Isopropyl Alcohol based cleaning products, use water-based. If in doubt about a cleaning product, contact your terminal supplier. 3- Changing the paper roll 0 Do not pull the paper, press the key 7 for a paper feed. Lever 0 Only use paper provided by your distributor; similar other papers could damage the printer. In the case of a thermal printer, use a paper brand KANZAN reference KF50. 0 Do not wait until the paper roll is completely finished before changing it. When the red stripe on the paper appears, remove the paper roll and replace it. You can use the paper feed key 7 to move the paper on. This key is only active when the machine is in an idle state. 0 For the loading of a new paper roll, open the cover, lift the lever to the right of the printer, Slide paper through the printer until it comes out the other side. Lower the lever. Press the paper feed key 7 to check the paper has fed through properly. 26

July 2003 V- Recommendations 1- Security In order to ensure that software integrity self-test is performed periodically, it is necessary to restart (disconnect-reconnect) the terminal at least once per day. This terminal has no power switch. The power supply is the only device used to switch off power to the terminal. Because of this, the mains power must be easily accessible. 0 Security guidelines concerning Lithium batteries: Keep out of reach of children, In case of ingestion, seek medical assistance immediately, Pay attention to the `+ ' and`-` polarities, Do not attempt to recharge the batteries by a heat source, electric refill or any means other than the base station, Do not dispose of batteries in a fire, Do not disassemble the batteries. 0 Security guidelines concerning Nickel Metallic Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries: keep out of reach of children Do not heat or throw in a fire, Do not short-circuit the batteries, Do not close the security valves (situated under the positive poles), Do not use in a airtight box, Use the adapted charger only in the specified temperature range, Do not manipulate or try to use the battery if it is damaged and/ or leaks any liquid. 0 General: There is a danger of explosion if the battery is not replaced correctly. Replace the battery with the equivalent type advise by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries according to manufacturer's instructions. 27

ELITE 790 Terminal 2- Connection to PSTN The equipment has been approved in accordance with Council decision 98/482/EC for pan- European single terminal connection to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). However, the approval does not, in itself, give an unconditional assurance of successful operation on every PSTN network termination point. In the event of problem, you should contact your equipment supplier in the first instance. 3- RF Safety 0 In-car safety The use of the terminal in a vehicle may cause malfunctions of electronic systems (e.g. ABS antilock systems, fuel injection systems) in insufficiently shielded systems. All transactions must be activated when the vehicle is stationary and parked in a safe manner, terminal removed from the base. 0 General Your terminal uses the GSM standard for cellular technology. GSM is a newer radio frequency (RF) technology than the current FM technology that has been used for radio communications for decades. The GSM standard has been established for use in the European Union and elsewhere. Your cellular terminal is actually a low power radio transmitter and receiver. It sends out and receives radio frequency energy. When you use your cellular terminal, the cellular system handling your call controls both radio-frequency and the power level of your cellular terminal. 0 Exposure to RF Energy There is some public concern about the possible health effects of using cellular equipment. Although research on health effects from RF energy has focused for many years on the current RF technology, scientists have begun research on newer radio technologies such as GSM. After existing research had been reviewed, and compliance to all applicable safety standards had been tested, it has been concluded that the product is completely safe to use. 28

July General safety 0 Electronic Device Most electronic equipment, for example in hospitals and motor vehicles, are shielded from RF energy. However, RF energy may affect some damaged or improperly shielded electronic equipment. 0 Vehicle Electronic Equipment Terminal - base assembly is compliant with automotive directive 95/54/EC. However, for road security reason, terminal must be neither used on its base nor when vehicle is moving. For connection to on board electronic network, contact your retailer. The terminal must be installed by trained service personnel only, including the power wiring. The wiring should be suitably fused. 0 Medical Electronic Equipment Consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices (such as pacemakers, hearing aids, etc.) to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF energy. Turn your Terminal OFF in health care facilities when any signs in the area instruct you to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may be using RF monitoring equipment. 0 Aircraft Warning Turn your Terminal OFF before boarding any aircraft, use on the ground only with the crew's permission. Do not use it in the air. 0 Children Do not allow children to play with your GSM terminal. Children could hurt themselves or damage the terminal. They could also make calls using the telephone function of the terminal. 0 Blasting areas To avoid interfering with blasting operations, turn your unit OFF when in a "blasting area" or in areas posted: "turn off two-way radio". Construction crews often use remote control RF devices to set explosives. 0 Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Turn your terminal OFF when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere. It is rare, but your terminal could generate sparks. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in injury or death. Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are often, but not always marked. They include fuelling areas such as petrol stations, below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, and areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust, or metal powders. Do not transport or store flammable gas, liquid, or explosives, in the same compartment as your terminal. 29

ELITE 790 Terminal Before using your terminal in a vehicle powered by liquefied petroleum gas (such as propane or butane) ensure that the vehicle complies with the relevant fire and safety regulations of the country in which the vehicle is to be used. 30
