Telstra is launching the ecycle program, so busy business owners can recycle eligible, unwanted electronic goods in a simple, safe and secure manner. By recycling your old electronic goods you can help reduce future greenhouse gas emissions, save energy, minimise landfill, protect our environment and conserve scarce natural resources. With recycling industry experts on board, we are dedicated to providing convenient electronic recycling services for businesses like yours because we believe that, together with your help, we can make a difference. 4 Recycling your electronic goods Start collecting eligible, unwanted electronic goods from around your business and place them in an ecycle collection box. Boxes are provided by participating* Telstra Business Centre representatives, or available online and in-store at participating Telstra Business Centres. 5 Packing and pick up 01 Boxing up your electronic goods Your local Telstra Business Centre representative is visiting businesses in your local area to drop off an ecycle collection box so you can start cleaning up around your business whenever you re ready. ecycle collection boxes are designed to safely carry approximately 15 kg, please do not over fill the boxes. If you have a large quantity of electronics for recycling, you can use your own sturdy collection boxes. Additional boxes are also available from your local participating* Telstra Business Centre. 02 Booking a pick up Telephone or log on to to book a FREE ecycle collection pick up. You will be asked to fill in the following: 1. Your name and business name. 2. Pick up address. 3. Contact details. 4. Number of boxes ready for collection. Following your registration online or over the phone, we will send you a confirmation with the details of your pick up. Print this confirmation and affix to all boxes requiring collection. A courier will visit to collect your eligible, unwanted electronic goods for recycling. 03 Collection of electronic goods You will receive a phone call or the day before your pick up is due to occur. If you need to change your pick up details, please call our service line on to arrange an alternative. To ensure we cause minimal disruption to your business during the pick up process, please assemble your collection boxes in one safe, easy-to-access area at your pick up address. Telstra is running the ecycle program for a limited time, so get in quick to make sure you don t miss out. Program ends 18 August 2015, unless recycling allocation exceeded earlier. Telstra may suspend the ecycle service at any time at its sole discretion. Need another box? You can log on to to order an ecycle collection box. Each online box order is capped to 5 boxes per customer. Data security and destruction: Each and every electronic item we receive is dismantled and recycled, and any data left on the device is destroyed through the recycling process. However, we do encourage you to remove all data from your devices or electronic items for complete peace of mind and security. No electronics will be re-marketed, resold or reused as part of the program. All mobiles (including batteries) and accessories will be recycled by MobileMuster, the only government accredited not for profit mobile phone recycling program in Australia. ecycle with Telstra 04

6 Questions and Answers Why does Telstra offer electronics recycling to customers? Technology is one of the fastest growing waste streams on the planet, and Australian s are among the highest users of computer equipment, mobile devices and consumer electronics in the world today. As Australia s leading Telecommunications company, and a major retailer of consumer electronics, we want to drive a solution. For the past 15 years we have been providing free mobile phone and accessories recycling in all our retail stores through MobileMuster, of which we are a founding member. We are delighted to be able to extend this free recycling service to encompass a wider range of electronic goods. We re committed to making sure the products we sell and even other (non-telstra) products our customers use, do not end up in landfill but instead are recycled responsibly. We follow strict standards and procedures at all times to ensure very high levels of environmental responsibility, so that all users have faith in this important program. Are there any restrictions to the program? Telstra accepts most small electronics, with a few exceptions. The full list of accepted items is on page 4 of this document or on our website If you are unsure of anything, you can always call our service line on to speak to a service consultant. The ecycle program will run until 18 August 2015, unless recycling allocation exceeded earlier. Telstra may suspend the ecycle service at any time at its sole discretion. The ecycle collection boxes are designed to safely carry approximately 15 kg, please do not over fill the boxes. Telstra can refuse to pick up boxes which are over the weight limit, deemed to be hazardous or contain ineligible goods. When ordering boxes via the online portal, each online box order is capped to 5 boxes per customer. However, if you have access to sturdy boxes of your own, you are welcome to use those as collection boxes. We will still pick up and recycle the goods so long as it is safe to do so. Does Telstra charge a fee for ecycling? No, it s an absolutely free service designed to be flexible, so businesses can conveniently recycle their old or unwanted electronic goods. Why can t we recycle all the components in Australia? The technologies and chemical processes required to recycle some electronic components are not currently available in Australia. For example, the vast majority of printed circuit boards are exported under stringent regulations for processing overseas. Wherever appropriate, local recyclers and specialist waste management companies are used. Can I get my old electronics back after they ve been collected for recycling? All electronics handed in for recycling become the property of Telstra and can t be retrieved by the previous owner or sold for reuse by anyone. What happens to customer data included on a recycled product? Telstra accepts items containing hard drives or circuit boards for recycling. We strongly recommend you remove or wipe all your data at your own discretion. Any data left on the item will be destroyed through the recycling process, however, you are responsible for removing any data from your electronic devices before providing the product to us. Who funds the recycling program? ecycle is a voluntary program fully funded by Telstra. A small recycling rebate is received on some of the components recycled, and this offsets a small portion of the program s overall costs. All mobile phone and accessories costs are met by MobileMuster. ecycle is run on a not for profit basis. What happens to the collected electronics once you receive them for recycling? Telstra has engaged ECOACTIV and SIMS Recycling Solutions (specialists in electronic waste management) to manage the collection and recycling of your old electronics. These companies have been selected because they have demonstrated compliance with the highest environmental guidelines and standards. ecycle participants can have complete peace of mind that, due to these standards, all items collected for recycling do NOT end up in landfills and all hazardous materials are disposed of safely in accordance with Commonwealth and local legislation. All mobile handsets, batteries and accessories will be recycled by MobileMuster; the mobile phone industry s government accredited recycling program and a Telstra funded initiative. MobileMuster ensures that all components are dismantled in Australia before they are either processed locally or overseas. The circuit boards, lithium ion and nickel metal hydride batteries and accessories are processed at TES-AMM s facility in Singapore where over 90% of the plastics and metals are recovered to make new products. Nickel cadmium batteries are sent for processing to the Korean based company, KOBAR Ltd, which meets South Korea s strict environmental standards for processing these batteries. All steel and aluminum is recycled locally in Australia. Residue plastics from handset casings are used locally by Australian Composite Technology to produce new composite plastic fence posts. What can customers do with electronics or appliances that Telstra doesn t accept? Please visit to find alternate locations and services to recycle these products. Does Telstra accept batteries for recycling? We accept mobile handset and any batteries built into laptops and other computer equipment (e.g. mice, CPUs) under the ecycle program. Please keep the batteries in the handset or electronic device where possible.
