3 Wireless - Problem Statement Available technology is not enough efficient for supporting the whole of the functional and technological requirements, due to the diversity of e- maintenance applications and due to the geographical position of each actor For a particular application, the most efficient technology at a specific maintenance layer (i.e. field component) is perhaps not adapted to support maintenance requirements at another layer (i.e. expert one). The communication between various components could take place using different routes From an user point of view, the communication route between different components should be transparent even if this route is not a straight one The e-maintenance application has to integrate heterogeneous components in which some of them are smart, not smart, with wired interfaces, with wireless interfaces In DYNAMITE, the e-maintenance platform has to interconnect conventional components (provided by market vendor) already used on the end-user site (GORATU, FIAT, VOLVO ) with new components

4 Wireless Innovative Way To investigate (and develop) the concept of Generic Gateway (software or hardware/software) for connecting different communications areas in which most efficient Wired and Wireless Technologies (already existing) are implemented. Generic means that the GateWay has to offer solutions for interconnecting all the components (conventional, new ) at the different levels to form e- maintenance application To investigate (and develop) the concept of Generic Translator (a software solution) as a standardised interface (transparent) to support all the communication exchanges between components with the DB (through generic gateway!) Different products exist (e.g. Crossbow platform) but.
