1 Flexible MAC Architecture (FMA) Copyright 2017 ARRIS Enterprises, LLC. All rights reserved Mike Emmendorfer Vice President, Systems Engineering and Architecture as well as Vendor Co-Chair of the CableLabs FMA Working Group
2 FMA Goals and Objectives 1. FMA enables the standardization of the complete disaggregation of the CCAP management, control, and data planes (SDN, NFV, and PNF) 2. Defines standard interfaces between OSS/NMS/Orchestration to FMA s management plane (manager) and control planes (SDN Controller) as well as a standard interface abstraction layer to cable access equipment New / existing CMTS, Edge QAM, PON equipment (RMD, RMC, pcore, vcore, vcmts, vccap, volt, polt, R-OLT, etc.) 3. Defines an open standard interface specification based on a data modeling language (YANG) for a single abstraction layer used by all FMA access equipment suppliers 4. FMA enables vendor independence and interoperability FMA defines SDN Management and Control Interface Standards for existing and new OSS/NMS as well as Cable Access Equipment
