Link, Active LED s Auto MDI/MDIX, UPnP protocol supported General Features The CALL-A-MATIC is a basic Phone Call Accounting system, which receives the call data from the PBX through either the Serial Port or the Ethernet port, processes the call without assigning any charges to the calls. The unit detects the Wake Up calls and the Emergency Calls and stores them separately. Reports for the calls, Wake up calls and Emergency calls are separately available for viewing and printing. The CALL-A-MATIC units are fully programmable through the Network port and support the UPnP protocol. The unit automatically adjusts its information display to suit all screen sizes and is hence easily viewed on all smart phones, tablets and such other similar devices. 4

6 Installation Unpack the unit from its shipping carton and check that all the materials have been received in good condition. Any damages or shortfalls must be reported immediately to the distributor from whom the purchase was made. Your CALL-A-MATIC shipping carton must contain the following: The CALL-A-MATIC Unit Power Adapter Ethernet cable Select a suitable location for the unit to be placed. A suitable location should have a power socket close by and should be easily accessible for any service or maintenance work. Plug in the Power Adaptor into the Power socket, connect the Serial port on the PC to the unit, insert the Ethernet cable into the socket on the unit and the other end of the cable into the LAN port. Switch on the power to the unit and the Power lamp starts blinking after about 30 seconds. If a valid Network connection is present, the Link lamp starts glowing and the Active lamp will blink a few times while the unit acquires an IP address for itself from the Server if DHCP is enabled on the unit. Programming the unit Once the unit is powered up, it initiates Network Discovery with the Universal Plug-and-Play protocol and automatically establishes its working configuration with other devices on the network. If your computer is set up with the Network Discovery enabled and if the CALL-AMATIC unit either acquires or has an IP address in the same range as the rest of the units on the network, then the unit would appear in the Local Network or Network Places in your computer / laptop. 5

7 Once the unit is visible on the network, note its IP address, simply type this IP address in the browser s address bar and press Enter to communicate with the unit. Or, you may double-click on the unit showing up in your Network places to bring up the home page of the unit on your browser window. If the double-click does not work, then right-click and select View device web page option. 6

8 The unit responds to the browser s request and the information is displayed as shown below : Click on the User icon on the top right hand corner of the web page (highlighted in red the following image) : When you click on the icon, the option Settings is displayed; click on the Settings and you will be asked to Sign In by entering the password. 7

9 The default User Password is Type this in and press the Sign In button and you would be logged in to the unit. After a successful sign in, the following information would be displayed : The Firmware version of the unit is displayed along with the time and date with the current time zone that it is set to. The time zone may be changed if it is different from the default EST setting. If this is a new unit being installed for the first time, you will automatically be taken to the Property Settings page where you will be required to enter the name of the property, the phone number, address and two addresses. The primary address is mandatory whereas the secondary is optional. If this is a re-installation, then please ensure to update the property settings to the new property s name/address/phone number/ id s accordingly. The primary and secondary addresses are used to deliver warning and error messages and these must be configured properly. PBX Communication Select the PBX Communication option and the page to set the parameters for the SMDR input is displayed as shown below : The top box on the page shows the current settings for the IP address of the unit, the Connection mode and the Serial or Ethernet settings for the SMDR input. The default PBX model is Mitel. If the SMDR input is through the Serial port, then set the baud rate and other parameters as desired. 1200,N,8,1 is the default baud rate setting. 8

10 If the SMDR input is through the Ethernet port, then select the IP Settings option and the parameters available for selection will be displayed as shown below : Note : 1. The serial port on the CALL-A-MATIC units emulate the RS232 DCE interface and have DB9 Female connectors. Use a straight cable between the CALL-A-MATIC and the PC. 2. The Ethernet port of the CALL-A-MATIC units support the TCP Client and Server modes of operation. These modes are described below. 9

11 TCP Server mode : The Ethernet port of the CALL-A-MATIC unit acts like a device server which waits passively to be contacted by a host (the host plays the role of Client). Once a connection has been established, the host computer can receive and transmit data to and from the serial device. TCP Client mode : The Ethernet port of the CALL-A-MATIC unit acts like a client which actively contacts one or more hosts (the hosts play the role of Server). Once a connection has been established, the hosts can receive and transmit data to and from the serial device. Select the Server mode or the Client mode option as required and program the Local Port if used in the Server mode or the PBX IP & PBX Port if used in the Client mode. Press the Submit button to save the settings. Network Settings Click on the Network settings option to bring up the current settings and also to program the desired values if you need to change any of the current values. The current settings are displayed at the top of the page. If the unit is currently in DHCP mode and you need to set it to a Static IP address in the same subnet or on a totally different IP address range, select the Static option and then program the Netmask, Gateway, DNS1 & DNS2 settings. Please note that ALL these parameters MUST be programmed if the unit is to be set up with a Static IP address. You may program the DNS1 & DNS2 with the same value. The web page as shown below is displayed on your screen : The Port setting is set to 80 by default as the unit responds to a browser request with the default HTTP port 80. However, if you need, you may use any other port in place of the default value of 80. This is usually required if you want to port forward an external port to this unit so that you may access the unit remotely. 10

12 Press the Submit button to save the settings. Change Time Zone The unit is set to the US Eastern Standard Time by default. If you are installing the unit in a different time zone, then you may change this setting here. Click on the pull down arrow on the pop up window that appears and the available time zones are displayed. The DST on / off information is also displayed for the respective time zones. 11

13 Select the desired time zone and click on the Submit button to save the changes. Change Password The User password may be changed by clicking on this option. The pop up window appears as shown below. Enter the current password (old password) and then the new password that you want to change it to. Click on the Change Password button to save the changes. 12

14 Upgrade Firmware This option should not be used unless the Dealer or the Distributor from whom this unit was purchased has advised you to exercise this option! If you are required to upgrade the firmware of the unit, when you click on this option and then confirm the same by clicking the OK button in the pop up window, the unit will proceed to check if a newer version of the Firmware is available and then downloads the same. The unit will automatically restart after installing the new Firmware version. Note : The unit checks the downloaded Firmware file for correctness and an improper or incomplete or invalid download will not be installed! 13

15 Reports Click on the Reports tab to see the available reports. The following reports are available on the : Non Call Records Report Wake Up Call Records Report Emergency Call Records Report All Call Records Report Non Call Records Report This report gives the list of all calls that could not be processed as they did not match the Incoming or Outgoing or Wake Up or Emergency call patterns as defined for the PBX at that place. 14

16 These records would usually be generated for calls which were not dialed completely or incoming calls which were dropped abruptly immediately after it was answered. To print these calls, click on the Printer icon on the top right side above the first record and you will be able to print these calls using any of the printers available in the network. These non call records may be deleted by clicking on the Trash Can icon on the top right side above the first record. Wake Up Call Report The PBX type that is selected in the Settings has a pre-defined Wake up call setting. Any SMDR that matches this pattern would be recognized as a Wake Up Call and will appear in this report. The Wake Up calls are displayed in the order in which they are received. You may print and / or delete these records by clicking on the Printer / Trash can icons above. Emergency Calls These records are for the 911 calls made from anywhere in the property. Every time a 911 call is made, an is sent to the address defined in the Property settings. 15

17 If two addresses are defined, an will be sent to both recipients. All Call Records Report This report is used to take a print of the calls or to delete the stored calls. All the call records present in the system memory are displayed in the order of time at which they were made, in the descending order with the most recent call at the top. These calls are numbered from 1 to the last call available in memory where the call numbered 1 is the most recent one. Using the options available for the printers installed in the local network, you may print all call records or print only a set of selected calls. If suitable software is available, you may also print to a file or a PDF document as desired. 16

18 How to enable upnp on your Computer The UPnP discovery protocols are normally enabled in Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista, whereas it may need to be enabled in Windows XP. Windows XP : To enable the UPnP Interface, go to the Control Panel and open the Add or Remove Programs, select the Windows components option, click the check box for `Network Services and then enable the UPnP Interface option in the pop up box. Windows Vista : To enable the Network discovery option, go to the Control Panel, open the Network and Sharing center and then enable the Network Discovery option as shown below. 17

19 Windows 7 : To enable the Network discovery option, go to the Control Panel, open the Network and Sharing center and in the Advanced sharing settings option turn on the Network Discovery option as shown below. Windows 8 / Windows 10 : The steps to enable the Network Discovery option in W8 & W10 are almost the same or very similar to the steps in W7. 18

20 You may click on the Settings option, select the Network & Internet, then the Ethernet option and open the Change advanced sharing options page. 19

21 If the Network Discovery option is turned off, select the appropriate check box and enable Network Discovery. You may also right-click on the network / Wi-Fi icon in the system tray at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, select the Open Network and sharing center and then in the page that opens up, select the Change advanced sharing settings option to bring up the page shown above. Note : The CALL-A-MATIC unit would always be visible in the network if the unit is in DHCP mode (default mode) or if the unit has been previously set to a Static IP address which is in the same sub net as the rest of the network. However, if the unit has been previously set to a Static IP address which is NOT in the same sub net as the rest of the network, then the unit would not be visible in the network and you will not be able to access the unit through your browser. In such a case, you will need to change the unit s IP address or set it to DHCP mode. 20

22 If the unit does not appear in the network If the unit is using an IP address that is not in the same range as the network in which the unit is currently plugged in to OR if there is no DHCP Server in the network, then the unit will not be discoverable in the network. The unit has default fall-back IP address of and it will always respond on this IP address. First, set your computer or laptop to use another IP address in the xxx range and then connect the unit directly to your computer or laptop. Wait for a minute or so and then type in the default fall-back IP address in your browser window and you will see the home page of the unit displayed. Proceed to program all the parameters as desired as explained in the earlier sections above. 21

23 Statutory Information FCC Information: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. Increase the separation between the equipment and the receiver. Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. Consult the dealer or an experienced technician for help. You are cautioned that any changes or modifications not expressly approved in this manual could void your authority to operate this equipment. Caution: This unit should not be connected to or installed directly on a PSTN or any other Public, Government or Private Telecommunication Network which is in violation of any certification or Registration requirements of any State or Central Law or Act or is in contravention of any of the provisions of the local regulations. All direct, indirect and consequential liabilities arising out of the failure to comply with the above instruction is the sole responsibility of the user only. Limited Warranty : See the Limited Warranty Card supplied along with this unit for details. Shipping the unit for repairs during or after the warranty period: Before shipping ensure that the product is packed in either the original shipping carton or in a wellpadded, heavy duty corrugated box to prevent damage to the unit in transit. Enclose a copy of your sales invoice (proof of purchase) and ship the unit freight prepaid and insured for a replacement value. 22
