Please note that this guide does not cover all possibilities. Many more system configurations are possible. Consult the product specialist in your office if you have any questions about configurations not presented in this guide. The console supports up to 702 universes when used with PRG Node Plus units. 4 V476 Console The V476 Console is a compact lighting control desk capable of operating automated luminaires, conventional fixtures and media servers. The console supports up to 702 universes when used with PRG Node Plus units. 5 Virtuoso Consoles The PRG Virtuoso family of consoles offer powerful control options for all types of lighting systems. The consoles can be programmed online or offline; using a combination of desk buttons, touch screens and software windows. The same Virtuoso application is used with all Virtuoso consoles, therefore, all software windows and menus operate identically. The only operational difference between the various consoles is the hardware configuration of the desk itself (or lack of a desk as in the Virtuoso Mini Console). Virtuoso VX Console The Virtuoso VX Console is a control desk capable of operating automated luminaires, conventional fixtures and media servers. The console utilizes Virtuoso protocol and/or DMX512 to control the fixtures. Virtuoso VX Console features: + Control of 2,000 multiple parameter luminaires. + 2,000-10,000 cues per fixture (luminaire dependent). + 1,000 presets. + 1,000 effects beam selects color selects. + 1,000 group selects. + 1,000 board cues. + 2,000 macros. + 1,000 snapshots. + Virtually unlimited cue snapshots (only limited by memory) submasters (in 3 pages). + Includes 8 integrated DMX512 universes and supports up to 676 DMX512 universes with additional equipment. + Up to 5 Virtuoso consoles may be linked together to provide universal shared or independent localized control of a single system. + Fiber optic or Ethernet data link to system. + Optional uxiliary Submasters panel, which provides 20 additional submaster faders to be added to the 10 submasters faders located on the Virtuoso console front panel. + Supports two built-in and two external monitor displays. 6 Virtuoso DX2 Console Like the Virtuoso VX model, the Virtuoso DX2 is a control desk capable of operating automated luminaires, conventional fixtures and media servers. The console utilizes Virtuoso protocol and/or DMX512 to control the fixtures. The basic difference is the smaller size front panel desk. Virtuoso DX2 Console features: + Control of 2,000 multiple parameter luminaires. + 2,000-10,000 cues per fixture (luminaire dependent). + 1,000 presets. + 1,000 effects beam selects color selects. + 1,000 group selects. + 1,000 board cues. + 2,000 macros. + 1,000 snapshots. + Virtually unlimited cue snapshots (only limited by memory) submasters (in 3 pages). + Includes 8 integrated DMX512 universes and supports up to 676 DMX512 universes with additional equipment. + Up to 5 Virtuoso consoles may be linked together to provide universal shared or independent localized control of a single system. + Fiber optic or Ethernet data link to system. + Optional uxiliary Submasters panel, which provides 20 additional submaster faders to be added to the 10 submasters faders located on the Virtuoso console front panel. + Supports four external monitor displays. 7 PRG Series 400 Distribution Rack The PRG Series 400 Data and Power Distribution Rack offers significant features, both standard and superior to other power distribution systems. The Series 400 system consists of a Rolling Rack unit, up to six 3U reaker Modules, and associated reakout oxes connected by Trunk Cables. The rack is designed to distribute house power service and control signals for the purpose of operating automated luminaires or other remote devices up to 500 feet away. Optional components include the Front of House (FOH) reaker and reakout Modules, which provides a convenient method of connecting consoles and accessories at the mix riser position. The FOH reaker Module sources two sets of six 15- mp circuits of C line power and provides system control data inputs for up to 10 USITT DMX512 universes along with inputs for two 10/ 100aseT Ethernet signals at the associated FOH reakout Module. The FOH / Switch is connected to the FOH reakout Module and can be used to input and track multiple DMX512 universes. The Trunk DC dapter can be used to power the internal circuit boards in all versions of the FOH reakout Modules. This will enable multiple DMX512 Universes to be converted to Ethernet outputs. 8 Rack The Rack unit is the main power and data distribution hub for the Series 400 system. The Rack houses up to six reaker Modules of any type, which can include a Front of House reaker Module. The Rack provides a built-in LED Meter Module that monitors system current and voltage, and additional space for installing optional expansion components such as a Virtuoso Node. System-wide functions can be controlled at the Rack, including power up, power down and testing. reaker Module The reaker Module provides two trunk outputs, with each circuit protected by an individual circuit breaker, for the purpose of routing power and control to the system. The total number of circuits depends on the model. The module accepts 100aseT Ethernet and DMX512 inputs, and features a Menu Display which provides control and configuration of the signal routing to all connected reakout components. The Module is installed directly into the Rack unit. The reaker Module is available in several power configurations: V, V, , and 15/ (mixed). Soca Output reaker Module is also available. This unit allows Socapexcompatible trunk cables and fan-outs to be used with the Series 400 system. (Note that the Soca Output reaker Module does not have any displays, DMX or Ethernet connections since Socapex-compatible trunks do not contain data cables.) reakout ox The reakout ox supplies power and control signal for three, four or six devices, depending on the model. LEDs provide verification of the power and data signals. The reakout ox can be installed in a truss with a choice of several mounting hardware options, providing a convenient location for connecting system devices. It provides two DMX512 universes and one Ethernet output. The reakout ox is available in several power configurations: V, V, , and 15/ (mixed). Front of House reakout Module The Front of House (FOH) reakout Module provides a convenient method for connecting consoles and accessories at the mix riser position. It provides six Edison outlets on three 15-amp breakers and six Neutrik outlets on three 15-amp breakers. When using a FOH reakout Module, both a primary and backup console can be connected to the system. The module provides 10 standard DMX512 inputs for inputting console data into the Ethernet stream and two Ethernet inputs for any Ethernet signal such as rt-net or Hog Ethernet. DMX512 universes can be selected and controlled using the built-in Menu Display. PRG LIGHTING SYSTEMS NETWORKING GUIDE 7

Unlike the standard reaker Modules, the FOH reaker Module does not offer a Menu Display, which is instead located at the FOH reakout Module itself. The FOH reaker Module is installed directly into the Rack unit. FOH reaker Module features: + Two Intercom Inputs + Two 100aseT Ethernet Output + Four DMX512 Outputs + Front Panel Flush Rocker Circuit reakers + Hot-Swapping Capability + Safety Interlock with FOH reakout Modules Front of House / Switch The Front of House / Switch is connected to a FOH reakout Module to provide a convenient method for switching between two sets of DMX512 universes ( and ). With software v2.0, all input universes are given a System Identifier, in addition to a Universe Number. The default is System. Systems, or C can be selected at a reaker Module s Menu Display. Systems or can be toggled by pressing the appropriate selector button at the / Switch. (System C is normally reserved for system testing and/or setup and is not selectable at the / Switch.) s an example, two universes from a primary console could be input into the FOH reakout Module and labeled 0a and 1a. Two (mirrored) universes could be added from a backup console and labeled 0b and 1b. The system outputs would be assigned 0 or 1 as appropriate. ll universes from both consoles are active on the network all the time, making it possible to verify that both desks are up and running by checking the system status. third system (C) has been provided for an additional input, such as a tech console. The / Switch indicates the current system with state of its backlit selector switches, even if this is changed elsewhere (i.e., using the menu). Note: The / Switch requires S400 software version 2.0 or greater, and a S400 7-pin cable. Front of House Trunk DC dapter The purpose of the Trunk DC dapter is to power the internal circuit boards in all versions of S400 Front of House reakout Modules without using a Trunk Cable. This enables multiple DMX512 Universes to be converted to Ethernet outputs. The Truck DC dapter is connected to the standard Trunk Connector on the side of the FOH reakout Module. 10 400 mp Disconnect The PRG Series mp Disconnect is a mandatory PRG safety device containing a three-phase, 400 mp circuit breaker serving as a Main reaker for high current C power distribution systems. Disconnect unit is required when 5-wire, 4/0 WG feeder cables greater than 10 feet in length are connected from a house service greater than 400 mps per phase to a portable power distribution system. The Series 400 Disconnect interrupts the 3- phase current flow under fault conditions, preventing dangerous overloads of the feeder cables. The S400 Disconnect may be used with the Series 400 Power and Data Distribution System, other power distribution systems, and with portable power sources (generators) as long as its ratings are not exceeded and an adequate Earth ground has been established. 400 mp Disconnect features: + Six Cam-Lok Series E1016 high-current connections for power input. + Two sets of six Cam-Lok Series E1016 high-current connections for power output. + Double Neutral connectors to handle excessive neutral current generated by low power factor loads. + Seven digital LED meters to monitor power flow - three voltmeters to measure phase voltages and four current meters to measure current flowing in each phase and the neutral. + Neon indicators to show when feed cable is energized. + djustable control for setting inrush limit. + Five color coded, insulated test points for metering output voltages. + Multiple local convenience outlets. + Solid copper rigid bus bars and two thermostatically controlled cooling fans allow operation at 100% of Rated current. + Suitable for use in the U.S. and Canada, or any locality with a 5-wire, 120/208V power grid. Trunk Cables WRNING: The 400 mp Disconnect utilizes high voltage power. Use proper precautions when installing or servicing. Failure to do so may result in injury! Series 400 Trunk Cables are used to connect the reaker Modules to the reakout oxes, as well as, the FOH reaker Module to the FOH reakout ox. 11 Ethernet Switches Series Port Ethernet Switch The PRG Series Port Ethernet Switch provides a powerful and convenient interface between V676, Virtuoso or DMX512 control consoles and their control equipment. The 10- Port Ethernet Switch offers two types of connections: isolated copper Ethernet ports and fiber optic ports. The fiber optic ports provide the ability to send fast and reliable information up to 2 kilometers away without the need for repeaters by using PRG Fiber Optic Cable (the Switch provides two fiber optic inputs and one fiber optic output). The copper Ethernet connections offer the ability to combine standard copper connections with fiber optic transmissions. CUTION: Copper connections are limited to a max distance of 300 feet. The 10-Port Ethernet Switch automatically determines the speed of each network connection based on the equipment connected to the switch and supports multiple connections with transmission and reception occurring simultaneously. 10-Port Ethernet Switch features: + Seven isolated copper Ethernet ports for input of 10ase-T and 100ase-TX standard signal (Neutrik EtherCon connectors). + Three fiber optic Ethernet ports for transmission of 100ase-FX standard signal. Two ports allow use of a PRG Fiber Optic Cable input connector and one port allows use of a PRG Fiber Optic Cable output connector. + utomatic detection and configuration of input signal speed. + Link, Transmission, and Reception status LEDs for all ports. + Neutrik PowerCon connector for input C supply (90-240V). + DC power status LED. + Standard 1U 19" rack mount chassis. 12 Nodes Virtuoso Node Plus The Virtuoso Node Plus provides a powerful and convenient interface between V676, Virtuoso or rt-net compatible control consoles, pixel mapping from media servers, and subsequent control equipment which require either rt-net or DMX512 control signals. The unit accepts high level commands in either V676, Virtuoso or rt-net protocol and converts the data into six universes of DMX512. The Virtuoso Node Plus unit operates in one of three primary modes: V676 Mode, Virtuoso Mode or Series 400 Mode. The operating mode is automatically configured by the unit according to the input signal type. + In V676 Mode, the unit will accept V676 protocol and generate both rt-net and DMX512 outputs. The rt-net output port is only available on the Node Plus unit. + In Virtuoso Mode, the unit will accept Virtuoso protocol and generate both rt-net and DMX512 outputs. The rt-net output port is only available on the Node Plus unit. + In Series 400 Mode, the unit will accept rt-net protocol and convert it to DMX512. The Node Plus has the ability to individually map rt-net universes to DMX512 outputs. 13 Virtuoso Node The Virtuoso Node provides a powerful and convenient interface between V676, Virtuoso or rt-net compatible control consoles, pixel mapping from media servers, and subsequent control equipment which require DMX512 control signals. The unit accepts high level commands in either Virtuoso or rt-net protocol and converts the data into six universes of DMX512. The Node unit operates in one of two primary modes: Virtuoso Mode or Series 400 Mode. + In Virtuoso Mode, the unit will accept Virtuoso protocol and generate DMX512 outputs. Unlike the Node Plus unit, the standard Node does not provide an rtnet output port. + In Series 400 Mode, the unit will accept rt-net protocol and convert it to DMX512. In this case, its thumbwheel is used to map a block of rt- Net universes to the six DMX512 outputs. When used with consoles running Virtuoso SV 4.4 or greater, the operating mode is automatically configured by the Node unit according to the input signal type. When used with consoles running Virtuoso SV 4.3 and earlier, the mode is configured by the placement of a CIC programming jumper. For instructions on how to configure the CIC jumper, refer to the Node User Manual ( D). Virtuoso Node as an rt-net Input Device Virtuoso Node running software v5.5 will also function as an rt-net to DMX512 convertor. In this case, the thumbwheel switch determines the base rt-net universe number, and the corresponding six rt-net universes will be output on the DMX512 ports, if available. s a S400 input device, the Node also uses the current system to determine its output. For example, if the thumbwheel switch is set to 010 and the current system is, DMX port 1 will output rt-net universe 10a, port 2 universe 11a, etc. The Node will disable any rt-net output if it sees Virtuoso protocol on the network. The thumbwheel switch can be configured to allow the same universe to be outputted on multiple ports: = Six single universes (at the switch offset). Example: TW=2, DMX=2/3/4/5/6/ = Three pairs of universes at the switch offset Example: TW=308, DMX=8/8/9/9/10/ = Two triplets at switch offset Example: TW=621, DMX=21/21/21/22/22/ = ll outputs for single universe at offset Example: TW=909, DMX = 9/9/9/9/9/9 (this only works for 100 universes). These cables meet the necessary quality specifications and are the only Ethernet cables that should be used with PRG systems. Fiber optic can reliably send data up 2 kilometers away without the need for repeaters. Due to the dielectric nature of optical fiber, this cable choice also eliminates concern for proximity to Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference. PRG Fiber Optic Cables are specifically designed for demanding touring and stage applications with ruggedized LEMO connectors and military style cabling. These cables are recommended for use with all PRG systems. The Series Port Ethernet Switch includes three fiber optic Ethernet ports for transmission of 100ase-FX standard signal. (Two ports which accept a PRG Fiber Optic Cable input connector and one port which accepts a PRG Fiber Optic Cable output connector.) The V676, Virtuoso VX and Virtuoso DX2 consoles also offer fiber optic ports. CUTION: No more than 5 fiber optic cables can be connected in series due to signal loss at the connectors.
