2 Overview The Boomerang system is a generic and universal tool that can be configured to operate in several different modes. This document is intended to give a brief overview of the most common configurations, infrastructure to be used and ways to integrate modules and accessories into a Boomerang system. The Boomerang software is available in three basic versions. 1. Boomerang Desktop for stand-alone applications controlled from one PC. 2. Boomerang Server-Client for network applications (connecting several departments within one network), where data needs to be accessed from several PC s. 3. Boomerang in the cloud for connecting remote sites into one system via Internet without involving the local IT-department. Brief Technical Description: 2

4 Basic Configuration The Boomerang system is installed on a Windows 7 or XP computer and the communication is wireless (via a PC ) to the measuring s. If a measuring is outside the wireless range (typically meters in-house), one or more link s can be used to extend the range. 5 Using Boomerang in a Company LAN When using Boomerang within the company LAN, most options in Boomerang are available as long as the Server-Client version is installed. Data acquisistion: NLAN0xx, NSLA0xx - LAN adapter products, requires fixed IP-addresses. XBB0xx - BoomBridge and NodeServer products uses dynamic IP-addresses and posts the data to the Boomerang server. Status indication: XBB007 - CCP terminal LEDs that indicates the status, it requires a fixed IP-address. XBB020 - CCP terminal Screen Web, indicates alarm status as well as last measurements and works with dynamic IP-address. User access: All users can login via the web-client from popular internet browsers (eg. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Firefox etc.) System adminstrators use the Boomerang client that will be installed on their MS windows PC. 6 Using Boomerang in an Internet Solution (WAN) When using Boomerang in an Internet solution it is important that firewalls and routers are prepared and set up to allow the traffic between the remotely connected Boomerang equipment and the central server that is running the Boomerang application.. Data acquisistion: XBB0xx - BoomBridge and NodeServer products uses dynamic IP-addresses and posts the data to the Boomerang server. BoomBridge connects directly to sensors, whilst the NodeServer connects to a PC- and wireless s. Status indication: XBB020 - CCP terminal Screen Web works with dynamic IP-address. User access: All users can login via the web-client from popular internet browsers (eg. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Firefox etc.) System adminstrators use the Boomerang client that will be installed on their MS windows PC. 7 LAN (Local Area Network) Ethernet 10/100 Alert Configurations Boomerang provides different types of alternatives to indicate alerts. Ranging from software features like notification or the GSM accessory for indication via SMS. Required conditions are to be set up by the local IT department. Central unit GSM, with watchdog XL003 SMS XL003 connects to the serial port of the PC/server (or via LAN-adapter) SMTP mail server Brief Technical Description: 7

8 LAN (Local Area Network) Ethernet 10/100 Alert Configurations for LAN Accessories Boomerang provides several types of accessories for indications or alerts communicating over a LAN. Required conditions are to be set up by the local IT department. ICU Scandinavia personnel will support and give information about the setup. Typical Boomerang system (on a PC connected to a LAN ) IP-switch plug 801 XB005 XB005 controls 16A / 230VAC IP-switch box 810 XB006 XB006 has dual pole changing over relays for maximum 30V / 2A Typical use: Sirens, Strobe warning lights, alarm loops, etc.. CCP Display XB020 XB020 indicates status on control points and latest measured value. CCP Display XB007 XB007 indicates status on 48 critical control points. Brief Technical Description: 8

9 Boomerang with Web access (Boomerang - in the cloud ) ICU Scandinavia hosts several Boomerang servers in configuration with one or more customers connected. In a hosted Boomerang solution, the Boomerang user/customer does not have to consider any computer hardware or network setup. As long as the internet connection is available, Boomerang will continuously log the measuring point and alert the user upon deviations. ICU Scandinavia personnel will support and give information about the setup. In most cases Boomerang in the cloud does not require any involvement from the local IT department.
