3 Quidway 200/300 Metro Services Platform 1 Introduction To embrace the challenge of delivering a broader bundle of services over IP in Metro and help carriers smoothly transit from TDM to all IP, Huawei has launched its carrier class devices -- the Quidway 200/300 Metro Services Platform (referred to as the 200/300 hereinafter). With the capabilities of high availability, abundant Quality of Service (QoS) policies, high security, and convenient maintainability together, the 200/300 is highly recognized as a suitable and unified choice for lots of telecommunication services, such as TDM transparently forwarding, voice services of Next-Generation Network (NGN), Leased Line, Triple Play, the third generation (3G) RAN services, and data services of broadband access. To guarantee the bandwidth and quality of the services at the access layer of networks, Huawei has incorporated many advanced features into the 200/300 platform, such as TDM PWE3, Resilient Packet Ring (RPR), Rapid Ring Protection Protocol (RRPP), EoMPLS (VLL) and DiffServ QoS model. These features help the 200/300 position itself in the Metro for both narrowband and broadband services, and the VPN of very important client as well. 300A 300B 200A 200B Figure 1 200/300 Metro Services Platform 1

Huawei Datacom Quidway 200/300 Metro Services Platform Till now, four models from the 200/300 series have been put in market, which are the 300A, 300B, 200A, and 200B. 300A The 300A is 6U in height.

4 Huawei Datacom Quidway 200/300 Metro Services Platform Till now, four models from the 200/300 series have been put in market, which are the 300A, 300B, 200A, and 200B. 300A The 300A is 6U in height. The Switch and Control Units (SCUs) on the 300A are redundant for backup. Each SCU has one Console port, one Auxiliary port and one Management Ethernet interface. The 300A supports up to six SICs (Service Interface Cards). 300B The 300B is 8U in height. The Switch and Control Units (SCUs) on the 300A are redundant for backup as well. It differs from the 300A in that up to ten SICs can be supported. 200A/B The 200A/B is 2U in height. It has one fixed slot for the SCU and two slots for the SICs. The switching capacity of the SCU is 12.8 Gbps. The SCU on the 200A has one Console port and twenty four FE ports, of which the connector type is SFP, and the transmission rate is 100Mbit/s. The SCU on the 200B has one Console port and twenty four FE ports of which the connector type is RJ45, and the transmission rate is 10/100 Mbit/s. 2

5 2 Product Feature TDMoPSN and Clocking Recovery The 200/300 is capable of delivering TDM services and clock signals transparently. The TDM PWE3 is supported for transporting the narrow band traffic in Ethernet. The 200/300 can provide both clock recovery technology by self-adaptive algorithm and Synchronous Ethernet technology, which can guarantee the clocking accuracy by hardware and satisfy the requirement of the 2G/3G IP backhaul. Smart Chassis Design The 200/300 can be placed into the cabinet that is only 300mm deep. All the functional modules and cables of the 200/300 are easily accessible from the front panel, which facilitates the routine maintenance. Carrier Class Reliability All the functional modules of 300 are designed with redundancy, including power supply, fan, controlling module and switching module. All the functional modules of 200 are redundant, except the controlling module and switching module. The fan frame drives air from left to right in the chassis to dissipate heat. The modules, such as power supply, fan, and SICs are all hot swappable. MPLS-enabled The 200/300 supports Ethernet VLL by mapping VLAN to MPLS PW. The feature of MPLS OAM on the 200/300 can be used for troubleshooting. The active LSP and the standby LSP can be switched over within 50ms, thus, the VLL can be supported with guarantee. In the H-VPLS network, the 200/300 can acts as access PE device by carrying the services at the edge of the MPLS network. Selective QinQ Selective QinQ features enable the 200/300 to add different outer tags to the tagged frames, so that the services can be deployed flexibly. High Availability in Provider Network The 200/300 is applicable for building the RPR network, where the physical layer can be either SDH/SONET (2.5 Gbps) or Ethernet (1 Gbps), and the topology can be the tangent or intersectant RPR rings. If fault occurs in links or stations, the protection switchover mechanism functions to complete the switchover within 50ms. If traffic congestion occurs, the fairness algorithm functions to allocate the bandwidth to all services reasonably. In addition, the RPR SIC can run in dual-sic mode which eliminates the potential faults with a single SIC. With the advantages of scalability and maintainability, the RPR network can carry the services flexibly. 3

6 Huawei Datacom Quidway 200/300 Metro Services Platform The 200/300 also supports RRPP over the Ethernet rings, which is cost-effective while the protection switchover is guaranteed to be less than 100ms. The GE ports on the line cards can be associated across different SICs so that the services will not be interrupted even if one of the SICs fails, which greatly improves the availability of SICs. OAM The 200/300 supports MPLS OAM. With MPLS OAM, the 200/300 can detect the faults in the Provider Network swiftly, and complete the protection switchover rapidly by switching the active and standby LSPs. Comprehensive Security Mechanism The 200/300 can suppress broadcast storms and protect CPUs from attacks by authenticating the login users. By binding the features of MAC address, VLAN ID and port ID in various modes, the 300 can prevent illegal users from accessing the network. Diverse Management Modes The 200/300 supports network management systems such as Open View and Huawei imanager DMS by abiding to SNMPv1/v2/v3. The 300 also supports Command Line Interface (CLI), and management through web and TELNET. Open interfaces are also provided for the integration with providers network management systems. 3 Product Specification The main specifications of 200/300 are summarized in Table 1. The ports can work in Access, Trunk, Hybrid or QinQ mode. Interfaces can be added to VLANs in default mode. Incoming frames can be tagged or untagged. Outer and inner tags can be mapped to different VLAN priorities. Add SVLAN ID according different CVLAN ID. Modify CVLAN ID before add SVLAN ID. Modify SVLAN ID and CVLAN ID together. SICs can run in both single-sic and dual-sic mode. Protection switchover can be carried out manually or automatically. The ringlet can be specified manually. Queues can be scheduled. Fair algorithm function is provided to guarantee the bandwidth of services. The topology of RPR network can be either tangent or intersectant rings. The RRPP can be applied to the Ethernet rings. Protection switchover can be completed less in than 100ms. The protocols of STP, RSTP and MSTP are all applicable. The mechanisms of BPDU guard, root guard and loop guard are all supported. Draft-martini-l2circuit-encap-mpls-xx are complied. MPLS LSPs can be set manually. MPLS VCs can be mapped to VLANs. The mechanisms of MPLS OAM and protection switchover are supported. RFC 1112, RFC 2236 and IGMPv1/v2 are complied. IGMP snooping is supported. Multicast VLAN is supported and the frames can be duplicated across different VLANs. Up to 1K multicast groups and 8K user VLANs are supported. The mechanism of prompt leaving is supported. Traffic can be classified on the basis of source or destination MAC address, outbound port and the priority of the frames. Traffic can be classified on the basis of ACL rules. Traffic can be classified on the basis of customization. The classified packets are under the control of ACL. Traffic policing is supported. Fields in the packets can be re-marked. The priority of the dropped packets can be set. Traffic classification and traffic behavior can be associated. The scheduling modes of PQ, WRR and PQ+WRR are supported. Transmission rate can be restricted at the outbound port. Each port supports eight queues of different priorities.

Mirroring can be carried out on the basis of flows. Terminal services can be carried out though Console port or AUX port. Users can log in through TELNET or SSH. The diagnostic tools such as the command of TRACE and PING are available. All the modules are hot swappable. The common modules are designed with backup. The power supplies are in 1+1 backup and the fans are in N+1 backup. Local authentication, RADIUS and HWTACACS are supported. Encrypted authentication through SNMP is supported. Command line interfaces are protected in hierarchical mode. Unauthorized users cannot operate the machine. The mechanism of DoS is supported. SNMPv1/v2/v3 are supported. The MIB functions are supported. RFC 2819 is complied. The mechanism of RMON is supported. With 200/300 deployed in the access or aggregation layer, flexible network topology, multi-service access, high reliability and good scalability can be achieved, while optimal balance between operation and network transport efficiency is also well provided. Both narrowband and broadband services can access simultaneously, which fits to both the legacy services and triple-play services as well. EoMPLS can guarantee the good scalability. RPR, RRPP and MPLS OAM technologies are available for achieving high availability. The 200/300 has been highly recognized as the Metro Services Platform for unified service bearing.
