1 ADNK-0-TN Optical Mouse Designer s Kit Product Overview Description Avago Technologies has produce a new wireless optical mouse reference design kit. This design guide describes the design of a low power consumption optical mouse using the new Avago Technologies ADNS-00 low power, small form factor ADNS-00 optical mouse sensor, Texas Instruments MSP0F microcontroller and Nordic Semiconductor nrf0.ghz RF transmitter. The receiver dongle is implemented with a Nordic Semiconductor nrf0a.ghz RF transceiver in conjunction with a Cypress CYCA encore USB controller. This reference design kit provides a power efficient and feature-rich solution in one neat package. The Avago Technologies ADNS-00 optical mouse sensor, an -pin staggered dual inline package (DIP), is based on innovative low power management architecture with relatively good navigation performance. It is able to measure changes in position by optically acquiring sequential surface images at SmartSpeed frame rate and mathematically determining the direction and magnitude of movement. The ADNS-00 along with the ADNS-00 lens, ADNS- 00 clip and HLMP-ED0-XX000 form a complete, compact optical mouse tracking system. There are no mechanical parts, which means high reliability and less maintenance for the end user. In addition, precision optical alignment is not required, facilitating high volume assembly. The sensor is programmed via registers through a four-wire serial port. The Texas Instruments MSP0 family of ultra-low power microcontrollers consists of several devices featuring different sets of peripherals targeted for various applications. The device features a powerful - bit RISC CPU, -bit registers, and constant generators that attribute to maximum code efficiency. The Digitally Controlled Oscillator (DCO) allows wake-up from lowpower modes to active mode in less than µsec. The Cypress encore USB controller is a revolutionary chip that integrates numerous common components, including breakthrough crystal-less oscillator and other external components commonly found in low-speed USB applications such as pull-up resistors, wake-up circuitry, and a.v regulator. The EPROM based microcontroller allows easy firmware modification, as well as storage of Vendor and Product ID s without an external EEPROM. 2 The ADNS-00 optical sensor detects the X and Y movements. A mechanical quadrature encoder provides the Z-wheel movement. Each of the button switches is pulled up normally and provides a GND when pressed. The TSP00 boost regulator maintains the.v operating voltage for the reference design mouse from two regular AA Alkaline batteries in series. The controls and data are transmitted through.ghz RF by nrf0 transmitter and received by the nrf0a transceiver at the dongle.
